Tablet running really slow

Tidus53Tidus53 Registered User regular
I tried using my graphic tablet recently on SAI and Photoshop CS5 and in both instances, the tablet performed very slowly to the point of actual lagging. I'm wondering if anyone has any idea as to what could cause this.

OS is Windows 7 and the Tablet is an Wacom Create

Need more information, what is the actual model of Wacom Tablet that you have (model number on it would be handy) and what are your PC specifications, how much Ram, Processor, Graphics Card etc.

Update your wacom drivers if needed.

Couldn't tell you what is specifically wrong, but the following may help (no guarantee, though). This is more of a generic 'my tablet is being stupid now what' checklist.

-Update drivers like NotYou said. Uninstall your current ones completely and then reinstall to make sure it's a clean install. (Conversely, sometimes the newer drivers have problems, and it can help to install older driver versions. It's a real pain doing an uninstall/reinstall rigamarole for half a dozen driver versions, but doing this does sometimes work.)
-Disable MS's Windows 7 tablet features, they can interfere with the operation of Wacom tablets (see: http://viziblr.com/news/2011/8/13/fix-my-pen-makes-your-wacom-tablet-just-work-on-windows-7.html . This is a tool to do it, but you can also google to see how to do this manually.)
-Check your running processes to make sure there's not anything eating up a lot of memory/processing power while you're drawing. Go into your startup settings and minimize the amount of programs that start up automatically on bootup down to the essentials (you really don't need Adobe Acrobat or Steam to load up every time you start your computer, for example)
-If you've got a really memory intensive anti-virus program you might want to change to something a little more lightweight.
-Check for any spyware that might be eating up memory.
-Low hard drive space? Or any other lack of hardware resources can be an issue. SAI's generally pretty light though, so if you've got a relatively modern system it shouldn't be lagging too much.

If it was just in PS, I'd suggest playing around with the performance settings to allow it to use more RAM, or play around with scratch disk settings, or turn OpenGL support off, or lay off the low spacing/dual brush brushes, and see if any of that makes a difference- but if it's effecting both PS and SAI, it's likely some kind of resource or driver issue.
