I played the car heist yesterday. pretty fun to drive but i think the novelty wears off quick. The heist itself is pretty linear (find manager, find computer to hack, plant c4, drive off). Got both achievements too
The turret definitely screws with PuG games. Failed twice on HoxBreakout because of the turret, once because someone got downed by a cloaker at the turret and another with everyone downed in the open
Apparently shooting the circular armor below the turret exposes a weak point you can hit for massive damage

Okay, so I'm getting back into this and I haven't played for a loooong time so I have several questions for you vets. What's up with perk decks? Are they in addition to my skill tree, or do I choose between a skill tree or a perk deck? Can I swap perk decks around whenever I want? And what about skill respeccing? Are there any downsides to it? Or swapping skill sets? Also, what's the role of the new skill tree because I haven't really had much time to look at it but it sounds interesting. Oh, and what's infamy? I remember it came out around when I quit playing but I don't remember what it's for.

Do you remember the bonuses you used to get when you unlocked tiers in the skill tree? Those are gone, and have more or less been rolled into perk decks. They exist separate from your skills, and can be switched at the same time your skills can (so main menu or lobby, but not in an active heist).
As for respecs, the downside is that it doesn't refund 100% of the cash you used to buy the skills. Skill sets/slots are like some hybrid baby of dual specs and alts, to borrow MMO terms. There's no cost to switch between skill slots, but you have to pay the usual costs to buy skills in each slot you use.
The fugitive tree is sort of a stealth/loud hybrid, it's got stuff to help in stealth, but it also has some potent combat stuff.
As for infamy, it's like Prestiging or whatever term other games use for it, where you reset your level back to 0 and get a shiny thing to show how cool you are. In Payday's case, there is also some mechanical benefits to doing so. The starting node in the infamy grid gives you cheaper costs on buying skills and a small increase in drop rate of Infamous items, the four nodes surrounding it decrease the amount of points you need to invest in a skill tree to reach the next tier. Past that, it's just XP boosts and mask unlocks.
It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

The first 5 levels of infamy also each cost 200 mil offshore and burns your spending cash, so right now it's kinda tough to keep that money up with the amounts of xp that flood in. Just remember to buy a lot of 820k crap, to sell for cash when you're reset, before you trade in 100 levels for an infamy.
You get one of each of the mods for free, rest must be gotten from Daily/Weekly Side Jobs apparently. There are a bunch of them (including a silencer for shotguns! The existing one took me like 200 hours before it dropped!). They also added Saw mods, including the ability to have a SILENT SAW.
There are also a bunch of new reticles, plus 3 new akimbo weapons (just 3 more of the existing pistols get akimbo versions).
They also added 5 new achievements, but they aren't really related to the mods beyond the fact that they will become Daily/Weekly Side Jobs.
Total gamechanger.
I didn't know the saw alerted the whole fucking map until I first tested it a couple of weeks ago, and until then I was thinking of a stealth/saw build... :< We're back!
Edit: Wonder if they've made doors alerting guards in the old maps? I'm seeing the FBI guys in FS day2 very well could give zero fucks about the smoldering remains of a shredded security door when passing by?

I did FS earlier today and finished the second day for the first time ever, then finished the third day too. It was weird though, we went in loud and blew through some of the stuff, drilled through the rest, and then hacked the server or whatever and a single cop didn't show up until we were nearly done with the server. The alarm had gone off too so I don't know what the fuck happened and why nobody showed up for a good while.
People are reporting that the silent saw is actually only silent when you rev it, but it still alerts people when you strike it against something...which is either a bug or completely useless.

Just tested, yeah a silent saw alerts the shit out of people when actually sawing something. Thanks, Overkill.

Yeah, I guess that's realism n' all... but as people are saying there's zero use to the mod if so.
I've spent over an hour and a half today wasting my time because people can't accomplish simple tasks such as "go to the escape van because bain says it's time to leave" or, I shit you not, getting kicked from the game literally seconds before we're done because "sorry, my friends want to join"
Someone please play this game with me tonight, because I am beginning to feel like making progress is impossible with public groups.
Well, if they wanted realism then firing a silenced handgun indoors would still alert everyone in the building.
Not to mention we already have a silent drill.
It's not about realism, it's about a mod having literally - literally - zero applications.
It wouldn't be the first but typically it's "this mod is useless because another mod for the same gun is better in all regards". Here it's "this mod doesn't actually do anything that opens new possibilities".
I'm not even sure about the realism argument. If I were walking down the street in a business district, hearing power tools in the area is not something that would make me immediately think to freak out and call the police.
But yeah at this point it's basically just a mod so bored people can rev up their saws while they wait for the thermal drill to finish. Which they could already do because shooting every civilian on the map seems to be standard these days.

I'll be online later tonight, but I recently went Infamous and have only made it back up to level 60-ish, so I probably wouldn't be much good if you wanted to do loud DW. Anything else should be okay, I just need time to set up my other builds (only set up the Ghost one so far).

I know, I was agreeing in the manner of "The realism argument already doesn't hold water, so why isn't the blade silent?"
Apparently people have already looked at the code and says it actually does reduce the alert range from 150m to 35m, which on a map like Bank Heist means...you might not alert the civilians walking around outside the bank? Maybe? Which doesn't matter in the slightest if you had Control Freak because those civilians would have been paralyzed with fear anyways.

Sad to say, if you're going to invest more than 15 minutes into anything in this game you need to host yourself.
In my experience the assholes are out there, alert and just waiting to pounce.

I am reasonably sure the duration upgrade for the saw is a trap. If you look, it just increases the 'magazine' size of a single reload/blade, but doesn't actually increase the max ammo. So you go slightly longer on the first blade, but the second one will last shorter because there isn't enough spare ammo for a full refill. And of course this isn't obvious ingame because the saw doesn't have a proper ammo counter.

In my experience Payday 2 pubs are way and beyond pubs of any other FPS I've played. As in they get stuff done and pretty much never get vicious, I think the game benefits a lot from being coop and allowing a lot of leeway where one player can carry others.
To each their own, I've met utter douchebags who kicked me super late for pretty much nothing as well. But considering how much I've played those are few and far between, I almost only join others games with pubs. Maybe we're in different areas and play with different playerbases. I also think it's a difference in what heists we play, playing something like jewelry heist you can find really weird players while in projob OK high xp multi day heists people tend to know what to do and don't kick people often.
I'm in Sweden, I could probably catch a few heists with you if our timezones align, PunkMcThrust on steam.

I read that with BOTH damage upgrades you can open deposit boxes in one "tap" without even having berserker, so the magazine/duration upgrade is on-par with the silent body!
I don't like the car heist in general. Once the "You can actually drive a car in payday, for real!" novelty wears off it's frustrating with little reward. In terms of stealth design the map is a mess - a waiting game at best, nearly impossible at worst.
Got in some great games with PA folks last night! Even though we ended the night trying and failing miserably at a DW Transport heist, everything was in great fun.
