Available as part of the game's Expansion Pass or separately for $20, the pack includes a new character, Eris, who will introduce your character to three new story missions. There will be new weapons and armor, including legendaries and exotics, five additional Bounty slots, and the maximum Light Level will be raised to 32.
The Dark Below will also introduce three new competitive multiplayer maps: Pantheon, Skyshock, and The Cauldron. A fourth, a co-operative strike map called The Undying Mind, will be available on PS3 and PS4 exclusively until Fall 2015.
e: And a new raid called Crota's End, according to the Activision announcement. Get your shit together, Kotaku.
Also, what the hell does the Jackolyte actually DO?
It's menu icon is similar to the Inner Light from finishing a Nightfall, but there's no data saying what it actually does.
You get a pumpkin head for half an hour, you hear terrifying screams, and I found earlier that when you take damage, you'll sometimes see an image of a pumpkin flash up on the screen.
Playing last night was an exercise in pain. I picked up the 'complete 5 Crucible rounds' bounty, figuring I'd blow through it quickly, and in playing for nearly 3 hours I managed to just scrape through 4 completions. Those monkey disconnects are going to pay.
What was extra frustrating was that I felt I was playing really well. Like, I'll never say that of myself, but it would so often throw up a disconnect as I was dominating a capture point. Hell, I identified a guy with a rocket launcher, slid under it as he fired, and hopped back up to deliver a killing punch to his face. It was the most badass thing I've ever done in any gERROR CODE MONKEY
Bit annoyed that there's a strike that's Sony-exclusive. I don't mind so much the stuff in the base game, but the DLC too? That irks me a little.

I love how the "enhancement" to bounty slots they talked about in this weekly post costs actual cash money.
I would say 'not necessarily' on paying for bounty slots. It may be something that comes included in a compatibility patch. I wouldn't get upset about that yet.
Is Bounty slots, outside of the stupid Queen's Wrath event, really an issue? Sure, maybe when you are working on like 3 Exotic Bounties at the same time, but even then... it didn't last that long.
Part of me wonders if those story missions will be part of the possible daily heroic ones. I doubt they would be, since that means that people without the DLC couldn't do them. So perhaps these 3 story missions can be made to be longer and more story driven? One can hope.
I mean, I remember paying 10$ for a Borderlands 2 DLC and blowing through it in like 4-5 hours. Think it was that pirate booty thingny. Considering the first clear of a new raid can take that much time by itself, while 20$ is a bit steep, it's not that outrageous considering the DLC prices nowadays.

If they're raising the light level, they'd better include some new gear to get to 30, because the vast majority of the player base will still be at 27-29 by the time this DLC lands. Grinding Iron Banner for a week isn't going to be enough.

I did it last night with @direotter and what we did is we would stay on top of the cliff, with 2 people taking care of that minotaur with Void weapons while one person would snipe/take shots at the nexus. We would alternate on who would take shot depending on ammo drops by the minotaur. If one would get killed, they other would revive. It went pretty well.

I found it really helped to have a person on Minotaur duty outside the cave. You see the spawn, get a cheap first shot and turn it around to flank it. Gives plenty of time for one guy to warn the other two if they need help.
Managed it on my 28 Titan but my 27 Hunter couldn't reliably take it down between the damage penalty and not having void grenades.

I had to switch to Sunsinger to play safe with resurrection but one of the thing I notice is that if I was to throw the minotaur a solar sticky grenade, he would crouch for a few seconds in defence, buying you time to keep firing at him and not being shot at at the same time.
Bit annoyed that there's a strike that's Sony-exclusive. I don't mind so much the stuff in the base game, but the DLC too? That irks me a little.

Haha, yeah. I already have the SP because of the edition I bought, and I'm not one to rage over money spent. But, based off the established pattern by the time Fall 2015 comes around, the following content would be available assuming two content expansions (plus base):
3 Strikes
6 Weapons
1 (minimum) Crucible Map
12 Sets of gear (one for each character)
9 Ships
I think it's safe to say that if they announce exclusivity in their sequel, I'm more than likely sitting it out on principle. I'm paying the same price for less of a product (being locked out of it for a year effectively kills it for me). I can't imagine the strikes that are locked out contributing to the story getting fleshed out in any significant fashion (the current ones are one offs too), but that's a bit much. IDK. Looks like the exclusivity truthers were right all along? IDK. :P

Wait. So the expansion adds just one strike and it's PS exclusive? So Xbox players won't get a new strike with the expansion?
A fourth, a co-operative strike map called The Undying Mind, will be available on PS3 and PS4 exclusively until Fall 2015.
Man, I hate platform exclusives, I hate retailer specific content, I hate preorder bonuses. Just give me the effing game.
If this is going to be how it works going forward, does Destiny really have enough non-repetitious content to hold things back every time DLC is released?
I think the amount of story crammed into the three missions in this pack will have a big impact in how long I ride the train.
I like the core mechanics of the game but the barebones story and explanation of the world bug me.
Even with the PS-only strike that doesn't sound like $20 worth of content. They're really pushing the boundaries of the content/price ratio with this game, aren't they?
In The Dark Below, a new character Eris will arrive at the Tower to deliver an ominous warning: that The Hive plans to summon a powerful god, Crota, to destroy Earth. Through three new story quests, The Will of Crota Strike, and the Crota’s End Raid, players will fight to uncover and eliminate The Hive’s forces and save humanity. As players progress, they’ll have an opportunity to earn all-new weapons, armor, and gear for their Guardian, including Legendary and Exotic items. What’s more, The Dark Below will raise the maximum Light Level to 32 and introduce five additional Bounty slots.
The expansion will also add three new competitive multiplayer maps. Set in a Vex temple within the Black Garden, Pantheon features tight corridors and Vex-designed landscapes, while in Skyshock players will battle in an interplanetary defense array across both vehicle and infantry engagements. Finally, The Cauldron is housed within an abandoned Hive ritual site for frenetic, tight-quarters combat. Those on PlayStation platforms will gain access to an additional cooperative Strike dubbed The Undying Mind and more as an exclusive until Fall 2015.

Well the current exclusive strike is Dust Palace which touches on Rasputin but no more than other stuff.
The expansion mentioned that the exclusive strike this time is going to be in the Black Garden so it may have a bit of story stuff as well. (Though who the hell knows what we do now that we've already killed the darkness god thingy.)
Bit annoyed that there's a strike that's Sony-exclusive. I don't mind so much the stuff in the base game, but the DLC too? That irks me a little.

If you're referring to the Expansion, it's a whopping £35! I went to pick it up in the store thinking "20 is a tad much but my friends are getting it so. .." and saw the price. LAWDY! Yeah I can buy Metro Redux and still have £15 spare. That's two games for the price of dlc.

2x Nightfalls. FWC Solar Rocket Launcher w/ 3 in the tube, and a fairly unimpressive FWC Handgun, same impact and range as Lord High Fixer, slightly better stability but only 6 in the clip and no way to improve it.
Do we know definitively if leveling a gun all the way nets you more energies on the dismantle?
So if raid my hunter then delete and roll another could i raid again that week.
I will be doing that with my Titan this week. It's utterly insane that this works, but it does.
EDIT: Whoops. I forgot to make this post about what I intended to.
Good VOG run y'all. Super annoyed that the bugginess of Atheon makes the fight that much harder now, but when the stars finally aligned it felt ... terrible to get another goddamn ship and a few shards. WHOMP WHOMP.
It's utterly insane that people will actually do that kind of thing just to do another run.
Im doing it cause I want to make my hunter awoken and I don't need anything else from rep vendors and if I can get another raid out it might as well.
As a counter-point: we're not paying a subscription fee.
Game releases in September >>> DLC releases in December = 3 months of game-time
If you assume that (like most MMOs) that you get the first month free, that's still 2 months of playing without paying anything but the game price. If you buy the DLC when it releases, that's like paying a retroactive $10/month that you're not required to pay to continue enjoying the older content.
I agree with the comments that the DLC content that they've announced is underwhelming, but I don't think that will prevent me from buying and enjoying it, nor do I think that I'll feel cheated or taken advantage of for having done so.
The Sony-exclusive stuff can go straight to Hell, though. I feel like the unwanted kid brother who has to wait until his older brother is done playing (read: broken) all his fancy new toys before I can pick them up. <_<
(Destiny) Doot Doot, Shoot Brutes for New Boots, Woot Woot for Rad Suits and Phat Loots
Season passes have pretty consistently been a bad buy, in my experience. (Even though I fell for this one again. I am weak.)
You're paying full price for the first 2 with a minor discount on the third, with a pretty high chance that you either A. will stop playing before the third or B. will find that the content goes on sale soon after the third releases.
What is this I don't even.

Like I said in my initial post, I don't think that's going to be enough. I think there should be other avenues to 30 post-expansion aside from a week-long event.
The amusing thing about people dissapointed about the console exclusive stuff is when you realize that nobody runs The Dust Palace.... ever. Hawkmoon is apparently a very good hand canon though, so there's that. Monte Carlo is pretty bad. So the exclusives are pretty meaningless overall and worth at most 10-15 minutes of gameplay time.
Still, I agree it's lame. Any exclusives is bullshit. However, the Destiny exclusives are pretty funny when you consider the amount of time I spent using them.
