Is there a reason we all gather on the center pedestal to DPS on Atheon?
Would the extra few seconds saved by just shielding up right outside the portal matter? It would save me from missing the platform and jumping to my death.
The only thing I can see being a problem would be Servitors taking the team out on the portal platform. Is THAT why the center spot became the go to?
It's a significant DPS boost. Atheon is immobile if you don't lob grenades. You can have a Weapon's of Light bubble behind you. No worries of Supplicant. It also has massive drawbacks, such as splash damage sometimes getting through and a mistimed jump. If you can do hard mode Atheon with 2-3 timestreams, then the odds of encountering bugs and just a brain fart is significantly lowered. Also, I used a non-insignificant amount of the word significant in this post.
Supplicants, not Servitors. Stupid morning brain.
So it seems like Supplicants are the main reason to go to the center rather than using the relic shield on the Portal platform. That makes sense.
Like Crayon just said, it's for the DPS. On our hard mode clear yesterday we got Atheon down to 50% on the first timestream, about 20% on the 2nd and he died with 10 secondes left on the buff after the 3rd timestream. Getting the fight over as fast as humanly possible is the best way to avoid "oopsies".
So am I crazy or is there no reason for the Relic guy to hang out in the portal until the very end? When I was doing normal mode I would usually drop a cleanse at the foot of the last stairs with two oracles to go and then high tail it to the center platform so the shield was up and ready for my team when the proc hit.
On hard I guess you may want to wait until the last Oracle since they have so much more health but this really seemed to make a huge difference.
I think the secret to really getting in as much DPS as safely as possible in the middle is having two defenders. That second defender can throw up another shield right when the relic disappears so Atheon doesn't kill anyone before he opens the timestream.
Alternately I guess have your regular defender open a second shield, but then you run the risk of being without weapons of light during the next phase.

That seems good on paper, but it feels like too many moving parts and as a lot of us have figured out, the more moving parts you add to hard mode atheon the higher likelihood of shit falling apart is.

As long as no one is firing rockets or throwing grenades (and hopefully no one is!) it's very foolproof, and those not sent into the timestream quickly destroy each other's suppression fields.
I curse this game, how is it that since 9/27 weekly raiding has not yielded the gear for me to be 30 but others have 3 characters decked out, some in one run. I was loving this game at first but I'm hard pressed to continue this rng bullshit.
Nah, see, I understand the DPS boost from the buff, and the need to get everyone under the relic shield, but going to the center instead of anywhere else is what I was wondering about.
If the relic carrier steps out of the portal and just puts the shield up right there are Supplicants the only threat?

Even the absolute best method currently used isn't foolproof. Now you're taking that plan and adding more to it. More parts to fail in an already super distilled plan that isn't foolproof doesn't tend to be better.
You're adding the potential of being stuck in one of the spheres while being in a Titan bubble. This translates to being stuck sometimes because you can't damage the sphere to break it.

Supplicants is a significant threat. As soon as the shield would vanish, you would be storm by them while supplicants do not go to the central platform. Also, Atheon is usually right in the middle, facing that platform, making it easy to line up for him.
Just secured December 9th and 10th off from work. I knew I was saving those two days for something important.
I've been 30 for a bit, but last night I finally was able to get the helmet which is nice because I can now move armor around and not look like Warlock #798. Heart of the Praxic Fire still seems fairly rare out in the world. Nipple clamp space cowboy.
Yeah That's the main reason I wish for the helmet. So I can wear back my Praxis of Fire which just looks amazing and also, it opens up a lot more customization on your character look while retaining level 30.

If Aetheon bugs and only sends one person through time, has anyone tried sending two people through the portal when it opens to kill oracles? I've read about people doing this and having success with it, but I've never seen or done it myself.
Seems feasible, if you're quick enough. Get that portal open asap and then book it toward the first oracle at the top of the stairs.

I don't see how that wouldn't work, tbh.
“I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw...”
I've also heard that if the relic holder just books it right through before any Oracles "expire" then you don't autofail. No Time's Vengence but no wipe either.

Putting on the VoG robe meant taking off Voidfang. Also dropping to 27.
Voidfang's more a PVP robe anyway, I guess.
Yeah, I would wear Voidfang into the raid simply because it had me up to a higher level. Once I got the raid chest, I started wearing Sunbreakers instead and leveled myself back up. I finally got myself back up to 29 wearing the Light Beyond Nemesis, raid chest/boots and some legendary gloves.
That is hilarious! Hell, I hit the Moon this morning for some bounties and immediately upon summoning my Sparrow I got dinged for damage from the crater at the spawn. I don't know how or why, but it happened. Also, in the Mothyards, dropping down the ledge from inside the cave you can get to from the one airplane's wing will damn near kill you. It's not even a high drop, but something about landing on the ground there will put you in "holy shit, all the red lights, all the beeping!" health status.

Our group does it this way and its huge to have the relic holder set up right as time's vengeance starts. An extra 3-5 seconds of damage is a big deal.

You really only need one defender for this. Since everyone has unlimited super, the defender can drop a (preferably weapons of light) bubble in the back at the beginning of Time's Vengeance and then with a second left can drop another bubble to protect the team when the relic shield goes down.
@Booker is a pro at doing this. He gets his bubble up at exactly the right time to allow max dps but still prevents the team from taking any damage when the relic shield drops. I cringe every time because he pushes it so close, but we never take any damage.

There are a lot of weird physics bugs/interactions in the games. I've seen people "punched" by teammates, which does no actual damage to them, but the force pushes them into a wall or something, which then kills them.
It's usually one of those "Killed by Architects" or "Misadventure" messages.

Oh, I'll definitely put the Voidfang back on when I need the level back.
For all the reasons above, center platform is key. I always tell people who are having a hard time getting there quickly to leave with two oracles left AND that when you exit, turn the direction of the portal side you're on.
Past/Mars = left side = turn left on exit. Right/Venus = right side = turn right on exit.

It's a single jump to reach the platform.
This should be the easiest part of the entire encounter
We had a relic holder overshoot the platform and fall to his death last night. He has a history of falling off the map, so it was hilarious.
In other news, after starting as a Warlock and then making a Titan alt, why is it that the Warlock's melee ability is so much better than the Titan's? Seriously, it's like that old CoD gif of the across-the-map knife kill vs. shadow boxing. Titans get no range to speak of and no lock-on/tracking.
I mean, I LOVE my Warlock melee, but I feel like the effects of it belong on the Titan's punch.

I mentioned this like two threads ago, but:
"It's a left turn out of the "Mars" away side, and a right turn out of the "Venus" away side. You can either remember that the number of letters in the planet corresponds with the direction of your exit turn, or you can remember that there is only one "R" in "TURN" so "mars is left" and "venus is right" both only have one "R" in them."

We get shoulder charge, the king of melee abilities. Everything else is second best.

About once a nightfall I'll square off to charge in with my Titan and realize that was fuck stupid and abort by pulling a Superman and jumping forever away.

Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.
