Edit: Does that timeframe even help? I'm clueless as to transatlantic time differences.

Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.

Dammit. VoG has re-ignited my desire to play Destiny. Fuck work, I wanna go home and Nightfall!
I'm glad you were able to make time and get it going. Now you see why all the cool kids are doing it!

Definitely going to have to find a way to fit that in at least once a week...
But... your rage posts... what would they be about now?
Uh... the same things? I have only ever raged about the terrible story and lack of content, and these things are still true. In fact, having run through VoG now, the uninspired same-ness of the Strikes is all the more, well, striking. I mean, where the hell was all this creativity when they were creating the other 95% of the game?
Where's my stealth strike?
Where's my "split the party" strike?
Where's the buff/debuff strike?
There's still a lot to complain about. And I'm going to when it's relevant to do so. VoG is a huge step up in quality from the rest of the PvE content, no doubt, but now I just want a whole game with that level of coolness.
How about one where we have to fight the boss while jumping around on disappearing platforms! It could be the Destiny version of the Heigan safety dance.
The interesting stuff in the raid does make the lacking of interesting mechanics in the strikes much more glaring. Most basic dungeons are supposed to help teach you basic ideas for what the later on end game, larger group raids will need. The strikes do nothing to prepare for the vault beyond "Yo shoot guys"

Nah, see, I understand the DPS boost from the buff, and the need to get everyone under the relic shield, but going to the center instead of anywhere else is what I was wondering about.
If the relic carrier steps out of the portal and just puts the shield up right there are Supplicants the only threat?
Supplicants is a significant threat. As soon as the shield would vanish, you would be storm by them while supplicants do not go to the central platform. Also, Atheon is usually right in the middle, facing that platform, making it easy to line up for him.
A little late to this discussion, but I think the bolded part is wrong. The shield stops enemy weapon fire from going in, without blocking your weapon fire. Assuming it works like a Titan bubble, then nothing stops a supplicant from entering the bubble and blowing you up.
Its like Suros Regime mixed with a sniper rifle. And all I have unlocked on it is the full auto. I'm in love.
Other than The Devil You Know, the VoC is my weapon of choice for sure. TDYK comes out for the raid during the opening sequence and through the Templar. I just love being able to knock down goblins and hobgoblins with one shot to the gut (2 on hard mode). Gatekeepers through Atheon though, VoC is where it's at. Excellent damage, range, and enough ammo with field scout to not even have to worry about running low.
I have a non upgraded mythoclast and the feel of it just doesn't jive with me. Maybe it'll outperform the VoC once I get it upgraded, but I'm just not feeling it right now. And I don't know if it's just me, but when I'm trying to tap the trigger with it, sometimes a shot won't even come out.

Speaking of Atheon glitches, I thought this was pretty good:
Rambo IIII Atheon here.
So good news! Bungie installed a railing around my crib so I stop falling, and man, life is great!! And you remember how I used to teleport the guys who were farthest away from me? You know, because the guys closest are easier for me to kill? Well, apparently Guardians realized that they could have their best players run away from me so they would get teleported and they were making short work of my portal teams... This wouldn't be a problem normally, but apparently the Kamakazi Harpies that I ordered from Amazon can't fly more than 18" off the ground, so these Guardian teams were just sticking their crappiest players on top of those pillars and the Harpies just sit below them and squawk.
Anyway, since Guardians can no longer cheese me, its time for us to cheese some Guardians!!
I'm looking for a group of lvl 30 Vex to cheese some Guardians on Hard Mode. I have the Guardian checkpoint. You don't need to be any good at killing Guardians; we're going to cheese the Guardians using some known glitches. This should take 1-2 hours. The exact time is unknown, because it depends on how badly the group of Guardians wants a 4th copy of the Legendary Sparrow. But typically, if we cheese/glitch kill them for about 90 minutes, at least one person in their group will start to break, and when that happens, victory is inevitable.
Need 6 Vex total, will split into 2 groups: -1 yellow Pretorian and 2 yellow Goblins will stand in Venus portal -3 yellow Hobgoblins will stand in Mars portal
Pretorians: no mic required. Really all you need is one hand; you're just going to mash melee. If a Guardian takes your health down with the Relic, we're going to glitch your health back to full. So again, no worries if you aren't good at killing Guardians. You just literally need to mash right bumper until the relic carrier dies. His friends will go blind, they'll die, and that's it! We're done! Rinse and repeat until their spirits are broken and they surrender.
Goblins: Your job is just to die while the health-regenerating Pretorian melee kills the Relic carrier. Literally just stand there and get shot. In fact, I might not even need players for these roles. I might just connect spare controllers and sign them into Live.
Hobgoblins: You guys are kind of outnumbered, so I'm going to use some glitches on Guardians to help you out. For example, if I teleport them to Mars (where you 3 will be standing), I'll try my best to only teleport 2 Guardians. They will have to focus on the Oracles, and then you guys can just snipe them to death. Also, I will occasionally send the "detain" cage around Guardians who were teleported, so they'll have to shoot their way out of the detain cage AND kill the Oracles. You'll make short work of them when I can pull off this glitch.
Now obviously, some guardians are resilient and they may defeat you and leave with the Relic, in which case, I will be extremely vulnerable. So just in case that happens, I'm going to have to cheese the Guardians myself. And fortunately, I have a few tricks up my sleeve:
1) Portal Malfunction: One of my favorite strategies for cheesing Guardians is to shut down the portal system. They think the Portal is open, but they will actually walk right through it and they won't leave Mars or Venus! Its extremely disorienting for a Guardian, and its hilarious to watch!
2) Relic Shield malfunction: Guardians like to wuss out and all camp the center platform (where those worthless imported Kamakazi Harpies can't fly). They throw up their "Relic Bubble" and my guns can't penetrate the bubble. Or so they think. I have gotten very good at glitching the bubble shield so that my shots go right through them! I usually wait until my health is real low before activating this glitch, because when that happens, it REALLY breaks their spirits. And then hilarity ensues...
3) Zoo Attack: If all else fails, and these Guardians manage to fight their way through all our cheese attempts, I may have to resort to an all-out Zoo attack. I have an entire army of Monkeys, Giraffes, Camels, Centipedes, Zebras, Chimpanzees, Leopards, Turtles, Anteaters, Bees, and Lions. They can knock a Guardian out of combat for 10 minutes easy.
If somehow still they manage to beat me, no worries. I've got warehouses full of Legendary Sparrows and Ascendant Energies. You know the ball-pit at Chuck-E-Cheese? multiply that my 1,000; that's how many Ascendant Energies I have just layout around. If they win, I'll throw some glowy balls and sparrows at them. Oh, and maybe a Chatterwhite Shader. LOL!
Msg "Atheon" on XBL if you want to help with the cheese

I personally prefer the Lord High Fixer from the crucible Vendor. High impact, 3rd eye allow you to keep the radar on screen even when aiming. It has both the RANGERFINDER perk that gives you more range when aiming and combined with SENDIT, I basically get a mini sniper rifle that can 1 kill stuff in the end at good range.
Yeah I really want some "press a button to do a thing" mechanics in the strikes, and I'm not being facetious. Ideally they would raise the strike teams to 4+ depending on the situation. Clearly they have the matchmaking capability, what with 12-man Crucible.
How about carrying a relic-like item while playing keep-away on Sparrows as an enemy ship is chasing you down? Another team has to use stationary turrets to take it out. The Sparrow team has to lead it to areas of opportunity while dodging fire so that the turrets can hit it.
"Go shoot shit" is done extremely well in this game. "Go shoot shit while doing other shit" needs to pick up the slack.
I also would not be opposed to pre-requisites for certain things. For instance, complete a certain strike to get the macguffin; complete another to get the doohickey; complete a third to get the container they go into; use the completed item to access the super-strike. And don't make the macguffin, doohickey or container dependent on RNG, just give me the fuckers when I beat the strike. And don't take it away once it's used, but let it be used over and over again. Instead of gating loot earned from the super-strike behind a one week timer, let me just go do those other strikes over again to charge the item for a refresh of the loot. Don't have time to play that much of the game? Fine, keep the weekly reset in addition to the charge mechanic.
There's a lot they could do to make this more than an FPS with some MMO elements like grinding and RNG. It would be something truly special at that point.
In other news, after starting as a Warlock and then making a Titan alt, why is it that the Warlock's melee ability is so much better than the Titan's? Seriously, it's like that old CoD gif of the across-the-map knife kill vs. shadow boxing. Titans get no range to speak of and no lock-on/tracking.
I mean, I LOVE my Warlock melee, but I feel like the effects of it belong on the Titan's punch.
Just wait til you try Hunter melee, that one sucks ass.
It's reliably possible to headshot with a Titan/Hunter punch; I've had minimal luck doing so with a Warlock. It's kinda handy, though not certain it makes up for the range.

TOTALLY AGREE! I came up with some ideas a while ago that would fix most of the strikes by adding "press a button to do a thing" style mechaics:
Archon: If you position him in front of his cell while another teammate presses a button on a control panel, you can freeze the Archon with cryo from the cell. While frozen, the Archon takes double damage. Don't freeze your teammates. Valus Ta'aurc: Rocket launcher turrets are positioned all over the map. Use them to deal increased damage to the boss. Be careful, though, because it takes time to get in and out and the Boss can kill you quickly if he's already facing your direction. Nexus: Each subsection of its body can be destroyed leading to it dealing less damage and taking increased damage. Once a section has been damaged, Vex will continuously teleport in to "sacrifice" themselves to rebuild the destroyed section. Stop the sacrifices and the section won't be rebuilt. Phogoth: Lure Phogoth to a side of the area and press a button to rechain him to that side. If you can rechain him to both sides within a timeframe, he reverts to how he was at the start of the fight with additional damage crit spots. He will break free from that state after a certain amount of time.

"Seem" is such a small word to be so tricksy - play a Hunter for any length of time and you'll understand what Sirialis is talking about. =P
FWIW: I think Blink Strike is passable (if boring). Throwing Knife has issues (even though it can be exciting).

There's a lot they could do to make this more than an FPS with some MMO elements like grinding and RNG. It would be something truly special at that point.
Just wait til you try Hunter melee, that one sucks ass.
I just want a horde mode/Mass Effect 3 multi style mode with waves/defend/survive and the occasional bosses.
Please give it to me Bungie.
I haven't played a hunter, but both throwing knife and blink strike seem pretty good.

TOTALLY AGREE! I came up with some ideas a while ago that would fix most of the strikes by adding "press a button to do a thing" style mechaics:
Xbox Live / Steam
"Seem" is such a small word to be so tricksy - play a Hunter for any length of time and you'll understand what Sirialis is talking about. =P
FWIW: I think Blink Strike is passable (if boring). Throwing Knife has issues (even though it can be exciting).
