Welcome to the Fantasy Life thread!

A world where you live the life you have always wanted to lead. FANTASY LIFE is an original RPG for the Nintendo 3DS from LEVEL-5, featuring music by Nobuo Uematsu and image illustration by Yoshitaka Amano.
Set in a beautiful and vast open world, players create their own avatars and take up a vocation of their choosing, living out their lives as they see fit. You can set out on an adventure to save the world, or spend your days in leisurely pursuits such as cooking or fishing. Find the meaning of your new life in the limitless possibilities that reside in FANTASY LIFE on the Nintendo 3DS.

Get a Life

Fantasy Life is a Nintendo 3DS game developed by Level-5 games. Start by choosing one of 12 different "Lives", aka classes or jobs, and have fun! You can specialize as a combat, gathering, or crafting class. The best part is that you're never stuck with one Life, you can change to another at any time! Here is what you can choose from:

Combat Classes:
Mercenary - You've gotta make a living, and life as a mercenary is never dull. A soldier to all, you have allegiance to no one. Oversized weapon totally included!
Wizard - Harness the power of the elements to perform both attack and healing spells. You know what that means: playing with fire... and wind... and water...and earth!
Paladin - As a valiant Paladin, you’re always looking for heroic deeds to do and people to protect. Major health and defense stats are a big help.
Hunter - Be verrrry quiet as you stalk your prey…or use your sweet archery skills to pick off enemies from far away.

Gathering Classes:
Woodcutter - Throw on some plaid, arm yourself with an axe, and become a guardian of the forest as a woodcutter. Remember, respect nature and nature will respect you.
Angler - As an angler, you'll travel Reveria seeking the best fishing spots. Be sure to chat with the local cats—who seem to know a little something about fish.
Miner - Can you dig it? Become a pickaxe-wielding miner to dig up ore, precious stones, and the occasional fossil.

Crafting Classes:
Carpenter - It may not be as flashy as some Life Classes, but these unsung heroes lend support by crafting furniture and items. They can make cool weapons and tools, too!
Tailor - You have a flair for fashion, dahling, and you’re not afraid to use it! Try life as a tailor to whip up clothing, shoes and hats with all kinds of nifty attributes.
Alchemist - A pinch of this, a dash of that...and you've got yourself a rare item or accessory! As a brainy alchemist, you'll use raw materials to create all kinds of concoctions.
Cook - Tempt the taste buds of townsfolk and royalty alike as a gourmet cook. You'll learn to create delicious feasts from even the most basic ingredients.
Blacksmith - What would a knight do without a sword, or a farmer without a shovel? Blacksmiths are simply indispensable! Learn to forge the finest tools, weapons, and armor.

Online, DLC, and Password Codes

Play with up to 3 friends locally or online. Tackle bigger monsters, go on quests, or gather rare items for crafting. Loot drops are shared, but quest rewards are not. Plan accordingly or just go nuts!

In addition, DLC content will be arriving to increase the world of Reveria with the Origin Island DLC pack. This pack provides more quests, loot, and monsters! If you're playing with friends, make sure they have the DLC stuff too or you won't be able to join together.

Do you love old-school password codes? Fantasy Life has 'em! Here's a list of codes for the post office. Some of the stuff is super powerful though and might diminish your enjoyment of the game normally. Use caution when equipping.

As cute as the dialogue is, and some of the puns, I found myself skipping past almost every text window with Duglas and the Miner Life. His speech impediment and that they felt the need to put it in almost line of text was a chore to get through. I just stopped caring.

Now that I think about it, almost every Master I've visited for a Life has some kind of speech joke (Wizard - cats, Alchemist - kaboom, etc.) Cook and Fish have been thankfully pretty joke free.

Plan right now for me is to go through the game as a wizard, and then when I'm done with the story I'll go and level through the other lives once the game is open up enough to just screw around as much as I want wherever

This was my plan, except replace Wizard with Miner. I have no idea why... Just decided on Miner, and then I decided I wanted to max out a Life before moving on to another one. I had to jump to smithing, though. I need better mining tools! Blacksmith is really easy to rank up. Got to adept in less than an hour... took me from Friday evening to Sunday morning to get to Miner adept.

I'm pretty sure that I'm at the end of the throw away main quest. Can't wait to focus on maxing out lives!

Mining nets you mad Dosh, though. Holy shit! I was sitting at over 40,000 before Port Puerto even opened up. It's made it easier to buy crafting mats for blacksmithing in bulk :3

It does limit you to daggers in combat, with no special skills, though. Not that combat is all that hard or anything.

I wanted to get a physical copy but didn't want to have to wait, so now I have to deal with the fact that my SD card periodically "removes" itself inside of my 3DS. It has made me pretty OCD about save points.

Though to be fair, with RF4 I had a really bad habit of accidentally dislodging the cart and losing non-trivial chunks of gameplay. For some reason it never happened with any other game.

Hmm... adding SP recovery to gear doesn't seem to do a ton. I just made an outfit for leveling Wizard with four princess appliques and it doesn't seem to be doing a lot, though I haven't done any real comparison (i.e. timing a refill with and without).

Edit: Well this is hilarious. Picking up miner and I immediately clear 5 challenges. Apparently looting gemstones from monsters trips the ones for mining them.

How many chapters does the main story have? I'm 26 hours into it but pretty much only played woodcutter for most of that but I haven't bothered mastering anything yet so I just want to know so I possibly don't ruin the game by being under levelled in everything... hell I have just started to invite npcs to my party as I didn't think it was important.

Yay Fantasy Life thread! Some stuff:

    1. If you get the DLC, you'll get an actual dagger combo skill at level 50. Before then, you should be fine as a gatherer without it. There are only a couple bosses you need to defeat to get access to high-level crafting nodes, and your in-game buddies can help you with 'em. Several late game fuck-you monsters that block harvesting areas are night or day only, so check that out if one is blocking someplace you'd like to reach.

    2. For the OP, here's a list of codes for the post office: http://fantasy-life.wikia.com/wiki/Passwords
Almost all this stuff isn't obtainable except with codes. It shouldn't hamper game enjoyment because the costumes don't have good stats and are just for fun. Plus there aren't really any full furniture sets on there, just frills.

    3. Does anybody know where to find a Rhino Beetle? I swear I have every other bug in the game, but the Bug Kid has wanted a Rhino Beetle from me since the beginning of the game and I can't find one anywhere.

Pace your shots. At Adept or something I think you pick up an extension of your basic combo, but you can't use it if you shoot the first three too fast. First is a jump backwards while shooting, second is a rain of arrows that hits a ton (like 5 times at point blank), and is totally free. I rarely use SP skills on hunter because that combo finisher is so effective.

Pacing is also the way to do the "press button multiple times" part of the crafting mini-game. Gets important when you're working on Master + crafts. If you press too quickly, you'll just skip and there will be an awkward pause.

There's actually two finishers for the five-shot combo for Hunter as it turns out. One is the three-arrow spread. The other is an instant piercing arrow. Not sure how to do the second reliably (or why I would, since the spread shoves enemies back a ways while slaughtering them)
