I'm looking forward to This War of Mine, but I find it odd that they haven't put up a price yet. I love games that do this, too: "Randomized world and characters every time you start a new game ".
Is it odd that I love State of Decay, I keep restarting it to maximize my characters (OMG! ITS SUCH A GREAT RPG), but I absolutely hate the color scheme with a fiery passion?
I'm not sure what you mean by restarting to maximize your characters. Like, if someone dies, you start over? Are you playing the base game, or Breakdown? Because if you love restarting, you'll love Breakdown.
I didn't realize what the perks did. Take the black guy you start the game with, I didn't realize that I could take him down a leveling path as a heavy melee weapons specialist, while Maya becomes a rifle(wo)man, and Ed becomes a luchadore (really hope the sequel comes with more clothing options).
<snip>
Aw, getting attached to your characters. That's neat.

Look, I'm willing to power through with one or two but my playthrough saw me load up a game and get three characters mauled in a short amount of time, including the black girl.
Anyone played through FNAF2 and know what the balance is like? I decided to try to actually finish the first game and night 4 is complete bullshit. I spoiled myself into having a nigh-complete understanding of the game mechanics and how the enemies move, but victory seems to boil down to luck. The enemies are just TOO FAST. At one point, I checked the left light, peeked at my camera to check on Foxy, then put the camera down to find Bonnie screaming in my face. He entered the room in less than two seconds! So my hope for the sequel is that, due to having more sources of danger, challenge can be maintained without resorting to cheating
Needed a little bit of extra xp to make my scouts elite in VC so I figured I'd see if I could do some skirmishes in 1 turn, killing as many of the enemies as I could in the process.
Also, Retro City Rampage has a new update I missed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuVrtMQUBxw

On the third day of not Christmas my true love gave to me, two copies of Burnout, one for Origin and one for Steam.
Note: One copy is for Origin and the other is for Steam, who gets which copy from the winners selected will be completely random.
@The_Spaniard unfortunately you can't give away Origin games through Steamgifts. You and/or the winner can get suspended because their system checks if the games are redeemed on Steam.
You should be able to cancel it and make a new one with just one copy, though.
@Sumanai really? I thought that all the winner had to do was check a box saying that they got it. Does the system really check if they redeemed it in their Steam even if they themselves verify that they got it?
@The_Spaniard
I got temporarily banned from Steamgifts before. It was for winning a PAGT giveaway for PA episodes 1 and 2. The giveaway description says the giveaway was a mistake, that it was actually for episodes 3 and 4. So I have episodes 3 and 4 in my steam library, and I got temporarily banned several months later for not redeeming episodes 1 and 2. So they do occasionally check your library to make sure you actually have the games you've won.
i think if you explicitly say that the giveaway is for an origin key you would probably be alright.
Did they add that recently? AFAIK, steamgifts is specifcally for games you redeem on Steam.
probably not, but it seems like from past interactions, as long as you lay things out accurately in the description of the giveaway, you can get away with most things.
ie not active pa people etc
@Ashe feels like I give away too many games, and gifted me Tesla Effect: A Ted Murphy Adventure! Thanks, that was one of the two games which was tempting me in the current humble bundle
And speaking of gifting things, quick reminder, these will be ending in a little less than 12 hours:

My understanding is, you can request to reroll the winner if the winner was not active, but it still has to be a steam copy.
I know it gets some love in here so I'm going to ask. What's The Longest Journey? Is it something I want for $2 (current GOG price)? And I'm assuming Dreamfall: The Longest Journey is the sequel, correct?

I am a big fan of adventure games, and The Longest Journey is my absolute favorite. It has a great story, great characters, and great worlds. Most of the puzzles are reasonable. (Look up a guide for the key in the subway though.) Unless you absolutely hate point and click adventures, I'd very highly recommend it. $2 is an absolute steal.
Yes, Dreamfall is the sequel. The first episode of Dreamfall's sequel, Dreamfall: Chapters has just been released, too.

OMG YES. You want them.
In sequence:
The Longest Journey
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey
What is it? It's a delightful adventure game spanning two worlds and several key characters, with some truly great writing.

Final Fantasy Tactics was one of my absolute favourite games back on the PlayStation 1 (later, Front Mission 3 because it was basically FFT with mechs) and I'm getting a similar experience with VC, with the added bonus that your non-storyline squadmates aren't as faceless/interchangable; they each have their own little quirks and bonuses/penalties and chemistry between one another so it's fun to mix and match them for fights.
Yeah, I'm a bit torn now since looking up that you can run out of side characters with back story and eventually be stuck with faceless soldiers. Especially since I've lost two engineers. They and snipers seems to be a scarcity on the recruitment list.
On the flip side, it's war and people you care about are going to die and their stories are going to end.
For instance character and chapter 6, 7 spoilers:
Karl was my main Engi and I had recently recruited Lynn, his girlfriend from his backstory (now looking at the wiki this happens when he is downed and rescued so nice touch). Well shit hits the fan in chapter 7 when Selvaria comes charging down the trench I have Alicia, Karl, and Vyse hunkered down in and she just murders him and Alicia right there. Sort of in shock but somehow Vyse stays alive and goes on to intercept kill about half the troops that had spawned with her. So damn I'm really sad about just screwing up that side love story but I'm also not going to save scum it.
Ramsey was killed from just poor planning on my part during the earlier sand storm level, too many damn tanks and snipers. My efforts to get rid of the tanks left me exposed to this single shocktrooper that more by accident killed her due to wanting to lob a grenade in my tank's radiator.
However, they all come back in NG+ so thankfully I haven't lost them forever. That would just be way too brutal.

While I wait till payday to get FNAF2 on Steam, I downloaded the demo on my phone. Promptly deleted, I don't like having that much scariness on the go lol.

No it's on a GOG sale right now so no Steam key. I just like to ask here because people tend to be very reasonable (read: tell me to buy the things I want to buy unless there is a real problem)
Alright. I don't even know why I ask. I guess I just like being told that I'm doing the right thing before I do it.
This will likely be a good option for my pending business trip.
Grabbed Chronicles of Riddick for $2.99 while I was on the site too.
Going on that business trip is the right thing to do!
Agreed. I wasn't too disappointed when they told me I was going to have to go from Ottawa to Orlando in January. Even if it is to just sit in a hotel conference room for 3 days for the most boring meeting ever. (Seriously we are just sending someone for the optics of having a rep at the meeting. A majority of the stuff has nothing to do with us and I'm not even really supposed to comment on anything unless it will be a problem later)

Wouldn't that make it the perfect toilet game? :P
If I need to go that fast, I'll eat some Taco Bell.
It turns out that Lego Batman 3 actually does have a free roam mode, of sorts. As part of the plot, you end up visiting a number of worlds as normal levels, but once you complete a world's level you unlock a version of that world that you can teleport to and roam around in.

I won a giveaway for a game the devs were giving away, like thousands and thousands of copies. I missed the email saying I won it, and randomly 2 months later I am temp banned for some reason, finding out it was that. I thought it was the devs who had done it, but turns out that steamgifts just does that to people. A little weird for what is just meant to be a massive giveaway, and I feel bad I took it out on the devs at the time. They had done a ton towards building good will in the gaming community.
It was gun monkeys, and they have an amazing post mortem for how they handled their online only game. Can't link because I am at work and cant find the direct article.
Needed a little bit of extra xp to make my scouts elite in VC so I figured I'd see if I could do some skirmishes in 1 turn, killing as many of the enemies as I could in the process.
Yup.
I did that yesterday but it was on Normal Skirmish 2. It gets you around 5.5k XP and 6K monies. You give the defend order to a Shocktrooper, rush their camp, kill the 2 guys there and capture, dosn't take more than 3 minutes.
So is the 'new' space hulk game just a redone version of the relatively recent space hulk, or is it all new content?
Word is that they've moved away from just being a direct conversion of the tabletop game, and it's more of a video game now and much less random (I gather). From a poster on Blue's News:
It's a much better game now. I dare say it's the game it should have been when it was released last year. The original was a 1:1 attempt at bringing the board game to digital format - this one is a game designed for gamers. It's a fundamentally big difference.
Key things are the way they've removed the outright RNG element from the dice rolls- it's been moved to much more workable percentages (although there's always that element of randomness).
You also arent seeing the entire map now - it's dark - dark and bloody scary, and populated with a range of genestealer variants. But to deal with them, you have a lot more toys and abilities.
It's just a much much better game. Stuff like bolters randomly locking- now they lock when they overheat. You can see them gradually heating up and can use action points to cool them - or get a small cooldown when you do a manual reload.
The way you have to explore the maps though - puts so much more of an onus on the creeping forward, covering all entrypoints etc - where the previous one lacked tension, now you have it.
It's still not perfect, but it's drastically better than the first game, particularly when you're running around the house in your undies shouting We march for Maccragge! etc (not that i do that)
Gotta add one thing though - performance.
When all the lights are enabled (max details) - ie lights projecting from each individual terminator (which looks bloody sweet) - map panning becomes super painfully sluggish. I suspect it'll get better as they patch it.
Oh god VC has permadeath? That's gonna get depressing
Only for side characters, story ones are merely defeated and can't be put back on the field for that mission.
Still in order to actually be killed they need to be downed from fire and then either 3 turns need to pass or an enemy needs to approach them and that will kill them off.
It's usually pretty easy to get one of your troops over which will summon a medic and evac the character. The two permadeaths I had are from super unluckiness more than anything.
Still, if there are side characters you really have to keep, prepare to save scum just in case.

Yeah, that was my understanding gameplay wise; I was just curious of content wise it was all new or just the campaigns from the original redone.
I looked into This War of Mine, and I can buy direct from the developer for $18 USD. However, it wants me to create a Games Republic account and then login through an unencrypted page! Nooo! Bad website! BAD! *newspaper*
So I'm NOT going to preorder, and instead I will buy from Steam for whatever $20 USD is in CAD.

Regretfully I'm fairly certain into a bank account that doesn't exist anymore.
