Saugatuck, a brewery in Michigan has announced they're making a beer called 'Murica as a counterpoint to Budweiser. I'm intrigued because they're a good brewery.
I went to a small craft beer fest tonight after work, it was fun but not super exciting since I've already had beers that the breweries there have. Still it was a good time.
And then I opened the brewing closet and got a snoot full of rotten egg smell.
That Wyeast 3333 German Wheat should have a "warning: This Yeast produces sulfur" on it. I don't think I'll be making any more traditional Hefs in the basement after these two gallons.
Growing my own hops would definitely get me into brewing some of my dad's old recipes
Sounds awesome! What kind of hops are you looking at growing, and for which recipes?
I've been doing some home brewing with some friends - we've already done an English bitter and a Belgian 'dubbel', but are always on the lookout for tasty new brews.

Interesting about the Budweiser rebrand thing by the way, this article sums it up pretty perfectly! :P
I feel like I’m drinking an artifact bound for a Michael Moore documentary—something that’s enjoyable when consumed in an ironic way, with a sort of Stephen Colbert, Team America, Mission Accomplished bravado.

Picked up a pack of Surly Furious and Left Hand Path Hard Wired Nitro for the weekend. Not sure which I want to start with
Grabbed some Calm Before the Storm for the weekend; nothing to write home about (as old folks might say), but a decent ale for a cool pre-summer evening.
For me, Winter is full of stouts and porters and the occasional brown, but summer? Summer is the time of Shandys, Ciders, and yes now adays Meads. We just had a medery and a new cider place open in my town. I've yet to try them, but I'm pumped. In the meantime we got a case of Woodchuck Gumption which I enjoy and Angry Orchard Old Fashion which is really good!

yea kirkland is a solid choice to bring to a bbq where you want to enjoy good beer, but don't want to spring for a full price pack of micro that strangers who are used to bud light are going to end up drinking. I dig their pale ale.

Not just rhizomes like the homebrew place had last year, but actual living starter plants!
I bought 6 plants all different kinds
Don't ask, I can't remember them all.
Centennial
Cascade
Northern Brewer
And 3 others

What do you look for on a healthy hop plant?

I'm not entirely sure if I did it right, but mostly I looked for good growth, big leaves, no obvious signs of diseases or insect activity.
The only one I got that didn't have at least 12" of vine growth had lots of little green shoots coming up.

I hope it's not actually just a damp dirty branch
Here is a good write-up on harvesting backyard hops, in case anybody was curious.

If I could GET Murica here I'd definitely drink that instead, of course.

Also grabbed Alesmith's Tony Gwynn beer. Guy had good taste in beer. Probably one of my favorite pale ales.

I didn't know this was a thing that existed... I want a single can not 48!
It seems like these things need not correlate though

I've never had a great beer from them either.
They are a very safe choice and common on tap.
Matt Brewing is solid beer, i like Saranac a lot.
