Cross platform Multiplayer Games

A few friends and I are trying to cling on to our old gaming habits despite having jobs, children and families to tend to. This means limited time and funds to dedicate to gaming and we all live in different cities. Our solution was simple enough, rent a mumble server and start gaming online every Tuesday evening. The only issue is were a mix of Windows and Mac users with varying levels of computer savvy-ness (boot camping is not an option for some of the Mac users.)

We've been playing Team Fortress 2 and will be playing Starcraft 2 soon. We're looking for more cross platform multiplayer games that are free or cheap. (We only went with Starcraft because we all already have it.). Anyone got any good suggestions?

    CS Go is one.

Civ 5 used to be playable, but I think updates don't get posted to the mac side, so the PC side would have to be straight from a retail copy.

Freeciv is a good alternative. And open source game is usually a good mark that it's x-platform.

That list has a whole bunch.

not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me

I can't vouch for any of these, but this is the result for the Steam tags for cross-platform multiplayer & Mac:

You can sort by lowest price, and take a look at the thumbs up / ~ / thumbs down rating.

If you guys are into some military sims, check out War Thunder. They are still rolling out modules, but the air force one is GREAT, and I've had some limited experience with the tanks and it seemed pretty cool. F2P, too.

Between you and me, Peggy, I smoked this Juul and it did UNTHINKABLE things to my mind and body...

You could also just kick it old school and do tabletop gaming (D&D, Pathfinder, Paranoia, World of Darkness stuff) using your mumble for communicating and something like Roll20 for your maps and dice. This is what me and several college friends do (using google hangouts) for our weeklyish sessions.
    Pros
    - Cheap*
    - Cross platform
    - huge variety of games

    Cons
-*only if you already have the books or
    - whoever DMs is willing to share a lot of information
    - DM has to typically do a lot of legwork

I host a Roll20 game of pathfinder, and in it I have done mini-games of everything from blackjack and Uno to chess, to civilization via mods and packs. It's a great platform.
