I'm trying to play Punch-Out but all it does is turn the screen black for a couple of minutes and then restart the Wii U menu. Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be here?
I'm not accusing you or anything but I read someone else talking about having this problem and it was because they homebrewed the Wii part of their Wii U.
@Descendant X
I had this problem too, and I definitely don't homebrew. My resolution was a dumb one but it worked: I told it to start the game on both the GamePad and the TV.

Okay, so another call to Nintendo and we sussed out the problem. I figured that I'd post it here in case anyone else has the same issue.
If you have an external HD, don't put any of the Wii digital downloads on it. They may not work. Both Punch-Out! and Metroid Prime Trilogy failed to load from my 1TB drive, but when I moved Punch-Out! to System Memory it worked just fine.
I have no idea if the same holds true for a USB key or a non-enclosure external drive.

That's really retarded if Wii games don't work from an external drive. Is yours powered or Y cable?

It's a powered enclosure. It's entirely possible that it's just the hard drive that's causing the problem.

In the middle of my download of Metroid tonight my external HDD died. I did insane amounts of testing, even pulled it out of the case and hooked it up to one of my systems... it is gone.
What a bummer. I mean, I can re-download everything, but.. gah. Sucks. Going to have to go pick up another drive tomorrow.
I'm running all three Wii games from my hard drive just fine.
And the SD card is used in smash bros to store pictures, can't save them if you don't have an SD card.

Right now I'm nearing the end of a ZombiU playthrough in which I could potentially beat the game with my starting survivor. I don't know if I actually will prevail or not, but I am just before the point of no return during the games final moments. Surviving the
arena that you get thrown into from the fake distress call at the church
had to have been the most difficult part so far.
Hell yeah, I fuckin' did it! Whoo!
Was hoarding ammo, med kits, and various explosives and incendiaries to throw (crowd control) during the last couple hours and it really helped! Next up is Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze in hard mode now I think. Or Metroid Prime(s) once I figure out the space issue.
Wait Rosalina is out? Thought she comes out 2/1...
Got a E-Mail from Best Buy saying my Bowser has shipped!
I was just saying they have them, but they can't sell them until the 1st. The only one that Target can sell before then is Shiek. And some still refuse
Is the any way to back up your game saves on the WiiU?
There's no easy way since save and game data are tied together when you want to copy/move stuff around. It's shitty because you have to copy everything over for a given title so it would take forever if you have lots of big eShop games. For physical disc games it won't be as bad.
Picked up Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid Prime Trilogy from the sales. I skipped Punch Out because I'll just play the NES version if I ever get the urge.
I really should take some time off from Destiny to play MPT (or Shadow of Mordor, or Advanced Warfare campaign, or Inquisition, or...).

Dude, the Wii Punch Out is so good. It has 27 fights and really great characters, art, and animation. The NES game is great too, but they're not interchangeable.

Agreed. It's so much better than the NES version. Some of the best animation in that generation of video games.

The only reason I didn't pick up the digital version of Punch Out is because I'd already bought the disc version and I wanted to save HDspace.
Seriously Wii Punch Out is super baller.
Edit: "social"? Really, auto correct? That's not even close to 'digital'.

I was really annoyed at Punch Out Wii when it was revealed the characters flashed red before attacking. I thought it would make the game too easy. I was wrong. So wrong. I still never completed all challenges in Title Defence (and maybe even regular) mode.

Oh yeah. Especially since if you rely on the "automatically dodge the instant they move" trick you'll get destroyed by Sandman.
I don't do big digital downloads, since I'm not a fan of games tied to hardware. Is a 32GB SD an acceptable HD expansion?
Its either going in my Wii U or my 3DS.
I bought a 16 gig usb key and plugged that into my Wii U. As of last night it is holding metroid prime trilogy and pikman 3. I think the games end up being about 8 gigs each.

This might be an issue with you going across the Terrabyte barrier. Kinda like the old FAT32 couldnt support hard drives > a certain size without partitioning them.
I'm still recovering from my first dance with Punch Out... yes, I know you don't actually have to go all out with the motion controls, but god damn I did, and I am seriously out of shape.

I know it makes it harder, but I plan on using the balance board with it tomorrow.
Fast forward to Monday where McFlynn is posting from the hospital where's he been all weekend, because he fell through the coffee table and gashed open an artery. :P
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
I've got my Shulk so I can rest easy now. I went to my local Gamestop to pick up my pre-order and they only had 2 Toon Links and about 15 Bowsers on the shelf. All the rest (Ike, Sheik, Deedee) were all sold out with pre-orders. Apparently they didn't even get enough Shulks for everyone and distributed them based on how early they ordered. I asked how many they had gotten and he said just a handful. He did seem to think a 2nd wave was coming of Shulks in the not too distant future.
This got me to fire up my Wii version on the Wii U. Never made it past Glass Joe in title defense. Proceeded to get my ass kicked a dozen times, but he's down now! Maybe in few years Von Kaiser will go down!
Need to get a GC controller adapter...
"For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men. Not women. Not beasts...this you can trust."
I really need to get through the main part of the game. I'd love to see the title defense stuff. I wish they'd hurry up and have Danny do a title defense playthrough on Game Grumps at least.
Please tell me Popinski gets like, a beer hat.

Grr...I ordered my Shulk online in mid-December, and I don't think it's even shipped yet. No word on my Sonic & Mega Man amiibos, either.

I never expected to have space issues with digital content on a Nintendo system.
