Weird. I wonder why Shulk hit Canada first. That almost never happens. I was pretty surprised when they called me last night to say I could pick him up today. I came into work late just to make sure there was no way they gave him away before I could get there. I now own way too many Amiibos. My plan was to just get a few...Nintendo has me acting like an Amiibo addict.
I've got my Shulk so I can rest easy now. I went to my local Gamestop to pick up my pre-order and they only had 2 Toon Links and about 15 Bowsers on the shelf. All the rest (Ike, Sheik, Deedee) were all sold out with pre-orders. Apparently they didn't even get enough Shulks for everyone and distributed them based on how early they ordered. I asked how many they had gotten and he said just a handful. He did seem to think a 2nd wave was coming of Shulks in the not too distant future.
Oh god I fucking hope they bring back Shulk and Ike
Ike I want for Codename Steam, but Shulk I want because... it's such a strange piece of Nintendo arcana I need to have it.

Hah, the same goes for the eventual Duck Hunt release.
Who ever thought we'd get a toy/figure/collectible of the dog from Duck Hunt over 30 years after release?
Damned scalpers. Toon Link is nowhere to be found here. Just a bunch of empty spaces with Toon Link written above them.
I was quite surprised there were only 2 of them (compared to about 15-20 Bowsers) at the store I was at. I'd assumed they'd be like Mario, Link and Pikachu and be everywhere. I'm sure there will be more of them coming.

That's part of the reason I ordered him.
Also, because he's my favorite newcomer and my current main.
Edit: The best piece of Nintendo arcana is going to be the Sonic amiibo. A Nintendo produced piece of Sonic merchandise. What a time to be alive.
The whole Amiibo situation makes me sad. I would love to pick up Lucina, Robin, and Marth for Codename Steam and the inevitable FE follow-ups, but I'll be damned if I go through the hassle of juggling preorders and fighting scalpers for shit you should be able to just buy off the shelf. Seems like such a waste.
I think Iwata was saying that they were considering making card versions of certain amiibos, which is like.... if i'm gonna get a physical object to gain access to this content and you didn't make enough of the cool statues, you might as well just make it DLC
I think some stores (like Target) have it locked in their POS for 2/1, but some stores are just putting it on the shelf as soon as they get it in.
Toys R Us and Gamestop are putting them out as they get them, though Lucario was locked until today (1/30). Target had everyone but Sheik locked to 2/1, though they recently fixed their mistake and locked Sheik as well a couple days ago (but she may be sold out in some places because they were allowed to sell her at the register before that if people came in and asked). I'm pretty sure Best Buy is also locked to 2/1.
It will show out-of-stock while they are locked (that is to say, Sheik was showing in-stock until they fixed her), but they should all come up Sunday morning theoretically. That will tell you exactly how much stock stores near you have.
Problem for me is that the closest Target is an hour minimum away and I'm right on the line between slight rain and frozen hell in the weather predictions.

Listen well to that disclaimer about "near real-time" numbers. I don't know how it actually pulls the quantity in inventory. Any info that is not "Is it on the shelf in front of my eyes?", or using the DPCI on an in-store device has a strong chance of even being as much as HOURS behind.
I really enjoyed telling people throughout the entire holiday season "No, we don't have any. The Internet is wrong."

When I worked at Walmart our numbers were updated at midnight, so you had a good chunk of the day to miss buying something. But that was for the internal numbers store-to-store, I have no idea if that was connected to the website. I worked garden and then pharmacy, so my stuff wasn't exactly "buy online, pickup later" type merch.

I know our numbers are updated quicker than every 24 hours, for sure. The in-store numbers are near instantaneous, and the website should be somewhat soon after.
Just make sure you don't blame the dude/ette who's working electronics that day if they can't find the amiibo you're looking for.

Well, our own personal stock is instantaneous, but when I'd check another store's, I'd get their counts from midnight.

From what I've heard from others, the numbers are maybe ~30 mins off. But they are updated constantly throughout the day - I was watching Sheiks magically appear in-stock at nearby Targets a few days ago, store by store (and even one go down from 4 Sheiks to 2).
If you are looking before the store opens, it shouldn't matter - the numbers should be 100% accurate since they couldn't have sold any yet.
Finally remembered to cash in the rest of my digital deluxe promotion codes. Got Metroid Prime Trilogy for 86 cents. That's, what, like 1% of what the disc goes for on eBay?
Saw a post elsewhere talking about how amazing it is that Metroid Prime Trilogy runs in 60 fps. Like, he was amazed that such an old game could do that.
Perhaps their only experience with old games is 30 fps YouTube videos and emulation on systems that couldn't do video perfectly?
I figure it has more to do with all the PS4/XOne arguments over fps and resolutions. If you didn't pay attention to such things beforehand, you might think 60 fps was a relatively new achievement.

I'm still probably gonna go to Target tomorrow and try to get Sheik (and the rest, but she's the only one I'm semi-worried about). I preordered those three at Amazon in December, but they don't even have a ship date yet, so I'm worried they won't have stock. Easier to buy them myself and cancel that order.
