As a City Elf, I was neutral on Mages in Dragon Age: Origins, killing those who were blood mages or violent abominations without mercy, but trying to save all others. I didn't see the Circles as a bad thing, nor the isolation and overwatch by the Templars a bad thing, while I was against the Rite of Annulment without trying to save those mages who were not abominations. This is my personal view on mages.
My Hawke had pretty much the same stance until Chapter 3 when all of the mages he helped turned on him throughout the course of the chapter. Mages kidnapping and threatening to kill Varric was the last straw for Hawke. By the end, he was in "Kill all mages who aren't Merrill" mode and sided with the Templars.
As for the Inquisitor? Well, I just don't know. It depends on whether I can see the Inquisitor as me, or if I see the Inquisitor as simply another character in the story like I do Hawke. If I can see myself as the Inquisitor, I expect him to lean toward how I acted when I was the Warden. If I see the Inquisitor like Hawke, then he'll probably be following Hawke's anti-Mage stance from the end of Dragon Age 2.
Cullen's stern, but fair. He seems alright, don't mind having him at my back. Hell, he helped me against Meredith.
I still don't see it.
He advocates the rite of annulment in anger/fear/paranoia in DAO, talks about how mages should be wiped off thedas, epilogue talks about how he runs his position with fear and approves any suggestion Hawke has that results in "kill them all" during Best Served Cold in Dragon Age 2.
I think people give him a lil too much credit. His PTSD from the Ferelden circle has impaired his judgement.
To be fair, the Rite of Anullment is for the exact kind of scenarios shown in the Ferelden Tower. The epilogues of Origins are of questionable canon, as I recall. And he definitely cooled off in DA2, though that may just be him seeming way more sane compared to Meredith and her ilk. As I recall, both he and Meredith were against the Tranquil Solution, and even he stands up to Meredith when she goes full dogfucker nuts on the Kirkwall Tower.

PTSD or not, his judgement is still sound enough to call for annulment.
Not sure that demonic possession is going to be as important an issue as it was in Kirkwall, considering demons can just walk into the physical world now.
I think the lesson of Kirkwall was that all mages are demonic possessions waiting to happen.
If not for the hero anders and the champion of kirkwall, who knows how many of the demons might have escaped?
We certainly learned a lot from the executed traitor Anders and the heroic Mage champion of Kirkwall

He was wrong though.
Wynne and quite a few of the students were safe including children. Just outright slaughtering them like he suggested would have been horrifying.
He has softened up abit since then like Nemo mentioned thankfully. He didn't immediately call for Keran's head in DA2 once he found out he might have been possessed, he just put him under observation.
Not too eager to see him elevated to being a major character but I'm willing to give him a second chance. He's not a Templar anymore anyway I suppose so most of the problems I've had with him in the past are a non factor seeing as he doesn't directly have a stake in the war himself anymore and will probably roll with whatever.
For someone who was right in the middle of two super shitty situations, it's a wonder Cullen is as reasonable as he is. His arc has him coming out pretty decent.

Probably because he saw the garbage from both ends. Unless you're a complete idiot that should inform your opinion.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

Wynne? The abomination that attacked me along with the mage students when I didn't allow her possessed self to come with me through the demon infested layers of the Circle?
She got deaaaad.

If there is actually a decisive victory in the war that grants a return to the status quo (templars) or freedom (mages) as a result of the player, bravo to Bioware. The latter would be a big thing to pull off.
Personally, I keep expecting some compromise where you side with one faction and it is felt throughout the story but then at the end having it not matter as a third party dictates the outcome.

I never buy into anything a demon/abomination is selling, but I always do whatever I can reasonably do to protect mages, and thwart templars/the chantry/the qunari.
If the games took place in Tevinter, and the mages were being oppressive dicks, I would work to protect the others.
For me, it's simply about lessening oppression in Thedas. Mages just happen to be the most oppressed class of people outside of Tevinter.
One day the magic will come back. All of it. Everyone will be just like they were. The shadows will part, and the skies will open wide. When he rises, everyone will see.

Dorian should be interesting. We only know Tevinter as mustache twirling baby eaters but now we'll get to see a more human side to them.
He's a good guy and a person of influence in Tevinter that wants to change their image. He obviously has no chance in hell of doing that but its nice to have big dreams I guess.
Speaking of Templars, theres a moment during the last multiplayer stream where a giant hulking red templar brute gets taken out by a jar of bees.
It was glorious.
Apparently the bees are one of the most powerful consumables. The missiles of DAI, if you will.
Bee missiles.
so.
happy.
If you've got an hour and a half, the multiplayer twitch stream from last night is very informative as to how the combat is going to flow in DA:I, and it's got no spoilers. I do recommend!

I was under the impression that he used to be influential in Tevinter, or at least could have been, but is now essentially a complete pariah.
I don't know that templars are necessarily chaste. It was made clear in the mage origin in DAO that templars were not allowed to have affairs with mages, which is completely different than chastity.
Prison guards are explicitly not allowed to fuck prisoners, and yet they are not chaste.
I thought Cole was the one that stealthed in and shanked the demon before it got Varric? Clearly I need to rewatch, but I thought there was a big puff of black smoke to signify that.

Think that was Cassandra.
She had her sword out in a thrusting motion like she ganked it in the back.
I saw that but didn't think there was enough force behind it, like she was about to but then Cole stepped in. I'll have to give it another look. Really they only focused on Vivienne, Bull, and Varric mainly.
I did find it interesting that Cassandra was using a two-hander while Blackwall had the sword and shield though.

That she speaks of... but touche.
Still Meredith or Wynne I'll take the sexually liberal older lady!

Makes sense. Not like Hawke is going to raise a finger to rescue Gamlen.
"We'll kill him! I swear!"
"Hold on. Let me find a folding chair and some popcorn first."

Kind of funny how Cole only pops up at the very end after the battle. Did they forget about him?
