external/portable speakers

Hey guys. Any help here would be awesome.
I'm looking to get some portable speakers. My budget is between $100-$150. I have been doing g some research and it seems to come down to personal taste. I'm currently using jbl on stage I I speakers. The require an external ac. They're about 5 years old and they are actually very loud. But after 5 years of abuse they have finally died. I see that there's lots more options now. While looking I've decided I want ones with built in battery. Blue tooth is cool but not required.
I listen to mostly hard rock, metal, pop, and tv/movies. I'm not highly concerned about a lot of bass as I am about overall volume. I would be using these mostly with my ipod, note 3, and surface tablet.
I've seen the jbl flip 2 ($99) and the jbl charge (I think that's the name $149.99) I see bose has released a set called soundlink color for $129.99.
Are there any alternatives you guys are using that you like? I hear that "the pill" by beats is good but you're mostly paying for brand name.Thanks guys.

    Like you, I throw mine out via Bluetooth from my phone/tablet/occasionally the computer. I have a Jawbone JamBox that I like a lot, but I think my next replacement for mobile is going to either be the JamBox's big brother (Big JamBox - $200) or the Charge. The Charge reviews really favorably (maybe this article would help you too), especially in terms of loudness and at more than $75 less and is a bit more portable, it might end up winning.

    big volume and excellent sound quality for a speaker that small. plus you can link multiples with the free app

    JBL Micro Wireless is really damn good, both for its price and its size. It's mono sound, but you can link two together for stereo.

    Can't speak for the loudness, but it's loud enough for my purposes.

    Thank you all for your responses.
    @echo 78‌ im looking for a little more than that, but thank you!
    @mts hmmm that looks interesting. The price is nice too. I think im going to look at that more.
    @wrong_button‌ i really do keep leaning towards the charge. Im hoping maybe i can catch a black friday deal. The one MTS showed looks decent as well. im going to do some more research.

    @NakedZergling‌
    i was actually able to get mine for cheaper than that. i think i only paid like 60 or
    I have been super happy with it. my lab is maybe lik 7 x 15 or so and it could easily fill a larger room, i have to keep the volume down or else it gets too loud near the classrooms.

    if i see another one for cheap i would likely grab a second.

    The wire cutter has a review on Bluetooth speakers. They recommend the Logitech ue boom or mini boom (depending on how portable you want it). Would link, but I'm on mobile.
