I've stayed at the Renaissance several times over the past few years both for PAX and non-PAX related trips to Boston and have always been very satisfied with the quality of the rooms and the level of service, so I'm sure anyone staying there for the first time will not be disappointed.
Odd, I just tried to check my reservations to see if I could tweak the dates and both Renaissance and Westin Waterfront are saying that "This hotel is cut-off and reservations can no longer be edited". The email I got back from them sounded like I had until Feb 25th to deal with onpeak stuff. I guess I need to call onpeak to sort this out?

Sounds like they're nailing everything down. I would expect our credit cards to be charged that initial amount soon.
So, I'm getting both super excited and super nervous about my upcoming trip for PAX. This is my first time and I want to make sure everything goes smoothly. My concerns right now, because I'm not sure how this works exactly, are how it goes from Onpeak, to the hotel and finally when I find out my room information and charges and such. Is it just an email notification (that I haven't received yet) and how does the room charging work? Is the guarentee charged to my CC as part of the reservation 2 weeks from my reservation dates and I just pay for the room itself when I check in?

Depends on the hotel, but in my experience, it works as thus:
You book a room via onpeak. A couple of weeks prior to the event, onpeak sends the bookings as a block to the hotel.
Typically, your card is not charged until you check out of the hotel. The ONLY time they do so is if you no-show for the reservation. They deduct the guarantee from your card (equivalent to one night's rent) and open the room up for normal customers if you do not notify them at least 24 hours in advance. The only charges you should see hotel-wise should come when you check out, assuming you show up as booked.

If that's how it's going to go down, then I don't have much to worry about. I just have to wait for the email with my room information and get any money from anyone else that is going to be staying with me. And hopefully I can get someone else to stay with us as well to split that cost even more.

That is how it is for the most part I believe. I know myself I normally have all my money from the people that will be rooming with me a week or 2 before pax that way it is in my account when I check out. Also I ask for a 50.00 deposit just to hold there spot
Last year I stayed at the revere hotel and it def had its perks. There was a 711 and a dunkin donuts across the street and all of chinatown. As long as you're not cosplaying or some other reason to go back to your room a lot it's a good deal. Also on the pax shuttle line
Does anyone know if the Westin has PAX reservation information yet? I want to call them to ask a question about my room but I'm not sure when OnPeak is sending them that info.
for the westin you can use this tool to look up reservations. If they have been transferred, you will be able to find your reservation using your last name and the credit card number on the reservation

I did see this page, and I couldn't find my reservation information, but I couldn't be sure, since I didn't book with that website, if the information would ever be there.

Okay, so I just realized I have several extra reservations...went to cancel a room and there they were. So just as a heads up at 2pm this afternoon (EST) I will be releasing (2) Renaissance 1-bed thrus/fri/sat and (1) Westin 1-bed thrus/fri.
Super tempted to jump on that Thurs/Fri at the Westin. I'm local-ish (1 hour outside of the city) but I'm already dreading the cluster-f that will be going on Friday morning.

I live closer than you and I still stay in Thursday-Sunday. It's worth it (as long as it's not breaking the bank of course :P)

Imho, avoiding morning rush hour traffic in Boston, esp on friday with the increase in con traffic, is pretty much worth the extra scratch. Your mileage may vary.
Has anyone staying at the Seaport gotten an official confirmation number from them? I assumed there would be something by now - unless they just use the OnPeak numbers.

Not all hotels will notify you with information after the reservation is transferred. You might want to contact the Seaport directly, or OnPeak, to get that information.
The westin has my rooms. I called and they were able to switch me from 1 bd to 2 bd. I spoke to a gentleman named steve. Just make sure you call the hotel directly and not an 800 line
Does anyone know if it would be possible to request an early arrival with the Westin? I'm assuming I can call and they can help me out but I wanted to see if anyone else has tried and succeeded in the past.

Last time I stayed there they handled this first come first serve when you arrived. We got there at 8 and check-in was like 2. We spoke to the front desk and checked our bags. They gave us one of the next rooms to be available after it was cleaned (an hour or two later). Obviously lots of people will be arriving that weekend.

is it normal for you to get charged the total of 1 night before you check in. I just ask cause just looked at my bank account and looks like I was. I was not last year so this was new to me same hotel and everything

rascrush...I never have been charged, before (westin or seaport), but it's a hotel policy thing and might vary from place to place (and policies can change, year to year, too). Wife and I are staying at the Seaport this year, and no charge, so far.
@racrush what kind of card did you use to pay? I've never been charged like that when using a credit card, but I wouldn't be surprised if they place a hold on your account for a debit card. You can always call the hotel directly to check with their policies.

Omni Parker did this to me this year, I've never had another hotel do it. It's not a hold either - they charged my card for a night.

And yeah, I would call onpeak for more info.

Correct - just about every hotel in Boston will have this restriction (some may be more strict than others about it).

I know the downtown Hilton is pretty loose about it. Mind you, their 4-person rooms are cavernous.
