Back pain - left side, mid-to-lower back: Heat or ice?

DrezDrez Registered User regular
TL;DW: I twisted my back. It hurts like hell. I am moving. I need to move furniture today. I took 3 Advil and it hasn't worked (at least not yet). I have some ice packs. I don't have a heating pad. I just want to make sure ice is OK to use. I need to get better in a jiffy.

Thankfully I'm working from home today so I can use my laptop in bed. Not ideal but that's life.

Ice for inflammation and swelling, heat for relaxing muscles and chronic pain. If it's just pain, heat would be better, ice can dull the pain a bit though.

So ice can't necessarily hurt me but may not necessarily help either?

Yeah it probably won't do much besides dull the ache or pain. IcyHot exists for this reason usually.

Consider paying or begging someone to move the furniture instead of you because chronic back pain is one of the worst things to live with.
