I just checked and I have logged over 3 days in the crucible. According to destiny tracker I'm in the top 2% in terms of time played. I say this because I was going to write a post about preforms and how they aren't always pubstomp groups and yadda yadda and then I stopped because it came off as a battle hardened grizzled old man's ranting, which... when it comes to this game's pvp, I apparently am.
I'm not convinced that means much (if anything). destinytracker has me at 29 hours played (in Crucible) and I'm in the top 25% in time played? I think they're still "tracking" a lot of inactive players - the ones that logged in during launch week, played for a handful of hours (or less) and then decided that Density Sucks (tm) and never looked back. So there's a lot of dead weight at the bottom of the list.
Having said that, my K/D, KA/D, and Combat rating are in the "top 99%" or "top 98%" - which is to say the bottom 1-2% of all players. So, I'm firmly in the dead weight category when it comes to kills, myself! Which is kinda amazing since my overall win percentage is pretty damn close to 50% and I'm in the top 15% and 17% for zones captured and neutralized, respectively.
Having said THAT, I only had about 90 minutes to play last night but managed to get in a handful of Iron Barberra matches. I literally doubled my reputation! The token system works great. I lost the first three matches (by a HUGE point differential - in one game our highest scoring player was was beaten by the lowest scoring player on the winning team!) and then got back all most of the rep on the first win. And, since the last go-around the shader was sold at rank 1, I already have that. Unless the IB inventory changes, I'm only shooting for rank 4, which seems pretty doable by the end of the weekend.
I'd imagine that the 3+ days of played time in crucible does mean a thing. The percent on DestinyTracker? Not so much. That said, my "battle hardened grizzled old man's ranting" would come from simply having played enough games against enough teams (including full preforms) to know that a preform group doesn't necessarily mean anything significant for a number of reasons, despite the long-held bias against pubs. Gist of the feeling at the time was that if anything, one should be proud you won; not be proud that you won "with pubs..." because that's silly and also underscores your own ability.
As far as the IB goes, since I already have the shader, etc, I'm playing to get rank 5/for chances to get the SPAEC MAGIC SCHOOL BUS, which is the best ship in the game, imo. :P
I agree with that for the current slayer-based game modes and solo-friendly radar. If bungie ever adds true objective-based gameplay like a CTF, a pre-formed group can wreck a more talented pub group that may or may not turn on voice chat.

It would be nice to get some good loot, but I just do them because of the rep gains and it's all there really is to do for loot besides the Vault. They are no fun though. Has anyone else done the new Blind Watch yet? If anything, it seems MORE imbalanced than the old one. You can't sneak up behind C by going over the top anymore, and trying to go through the either door to B is just asking to get sniped from across the room or auto rifled from the stairs, usually both. I haven't played a single game on the new map yet that didn't end up in a win by the B/C team by more than 10K points. Just straight ridic that the most unbalanced map got "fixed" to be even more unbalanced.
I've played it, and I love it. B is an absolute meat grinder, which is awesome, I love those types of maps. I agree with others that the new flags cause players to totally dismiss large parts of the map, but I'll take that over an obviously lopsided setup.
I have actually won that map with large margins from both sides. I prefer A/B now, surprisingly. It just feels better to me to shoot down towards the lower levels than up towards the door. If you can get a foothold, then all the C side team can see if you do it right is your head, while you have their entire figure available for a target.
Yeah, the new layout doesn't seem to stagnate/rout as much.
Though I think it's just the general geography of the map that's weak. If the "B" structure had another lane to get around to the other side, then it'd be much better. You can advance A <-> C from up high or low, but it's basically one path. Or you can advance on A <-> C through B/the interior. Either way if you anchor between B/C you can do well.

Yeah, the fundamentals of the map haven't really changed. Holding B and C is still key, because each one is in one of the two main routes to the other. Holding both gives each one better choke points.
The thing is, I think B is even more defensible than before, because it's not so close to that horrible blind corner that was just a grenade pit before. Now you can reasonably defend B with 3 people and be very, very difficult to unseat.
C is also more secure because of the closed windows and better line of sight to the roof, and the more obscured line of sight from sniper attacks from the A area.
Basically, I don't think the sides are particularly more balanced at all, but a little more sensible, and it makes the map fun to play.

Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.

I hit rank 3 on iron banner so now I have received a second timur's lash and an end of history (complete with aerodynamic air holes) as post game rewards.

I did that entire wave fight from the top of the big rock as far as possible from everything that spawns. Not a shot fired my direction, and it was lovely.
