I hate stealth missions in an RTS. I also hate "You start with X units and can't make any more" missions in an RTS as well.
See, I am terrible at RTS games and tend to turtle my ass off as a result. I don't play "Command and Conquer" or "Warcraft II", I play "Sim Base" until I'm covering half of the map and am forced into fighting the enemy because I have run out of areas to mine resources.
I'm pretty sure that's why I only made it a few missions into RA3:Uprising.
Every time I think to myself I should branch out a bit and visit other parts of PA, I go and check out the thread for some other game (hello Dragon Age!) and maybe post a bit, but I'm invariably soon reminded why I just stick to this one.
I U, Steam Thread.
Steam Thread 's you too (and you Ed.)
This is pretty funny, though coming from the how-can-you-not-get-games-on-other-services evangelist.
There are plenty of other awesome parts of the PA community like the Build Thread, Wangs Without Borders and the SE++ Steam Thread just to name a few. We've had mods express concern before that the G&T Steam Thread is a little insular. So, you know, be careful with talk about us v. them.

I can love Steam and this thread and its people and vibe without being able to comprehend why people intentionally avoid things like Origin and GOG, can't I?

Well, ok. It wasn't meant as "us vs them" or whatever. I mean - that was sort of the point: trying to branch out and visit other parts of the place. And yes, there have been a few bright spots (the TERA thread is fun. The Build thread I posted in once for advice but got little response. The Skyrim thread has been pretty good. And there was a great Dark Souls LP I followed to the end). But I was just feeling a bit icky about something and wanted to express some for y'all.
But I'll shut up now. :P My remarkable talent for not being able to express what I want comes through again.
I'll stick to my emotes. They are the bestest things. (at least, until we get pink hearts instead :P )
In Steam-related news... I started fiddling with Snow Light that I was gifted recently. It's interesting, if a bit odd (mixing QTEs in a VN is a very weird experience) but holy cow it needed more time with the English localization crew. At least they apparently are aware of it and working on patching/improving. In the meantime, it's a bit of a headscratcher sometimes. Gonna let that one bake in the oven a bit pending a patch.

If there was a separate thread for giveaways and infractions handed out for people subtly hinting that Gosh I'd Love To Have Today's Sale Game, this thread might become readable again. Right now it's pretty much a chat thread.
Landed my second booster pack- of course, it would have to be for Sakura Spirit. Cracked it open hoping for foils, no dice. Still a couple bucks in the old wallet, though.
FF13 finished. Overall worth a playthrough. If you like Final Fantasy, this is a solid entry. There seem to be a ton of optional content, but they felt too grindy for me so I didn't bother with them for the most part.
The final chapter was especially grindy. Every encounter seemed grindy. Between the high volume of enemies, multiple enemies that do things like knockdown and can lock a character or several characters out of their turn, high damage output monsters, really made the final chapter a chore.
Has anyone had a look at Wickland? It's in the current Bundlestars Ballistic Bundle and it looks like it could be fun for a Friday Night Gaming session. Also, was a game ever picked for tonight? I doubt I can make it but I'm curious. I'm now going to @Isorn because he is the only of my friends who owns Wickland so I would like to hear his thoughts.

I think we have plenty of decent discussions, especially when a new game comes out. I know I frequently will come in and ask about a game and get really good feedback - like recently I asked about Kickbeat and at least two people had really nice, detailed writeups for me within 30 minutes. Asking an opinion isn't gift begging, Steam has a shitton of games and often something flies under your radar until it does go on sale or a bundle.
Yeah, the thread can be a bit chatty, and sometimes when it's pigpile on Isy, Corrigan or Pixie it can have a few pages that are simply screenshots of super obscure game gift giving, but overall I think the thread does a pretty good job staying on topic. A "Giveaway" thread would likely be a mess though.
Also, this thread spawned Friday Night Gaming nights which are tremendous.
Speaking of which - what do folks want to play tonight? Was it already decided? We had discussed revisiting Space Marine again, that might be fun. Insurgency was pretty great last week, highlighted by some fun friendly fire incidents. We could build the world's biggest dink in Minecraft. I'm afraid I don't do multiplayer enough to make great recommendations.
I have to miss out again on FNG- I'm watching my niece tonight so my sister can get out of the house for a few hours' peace.
Let's see... I ought to kick Steam Roulette again and see about something to play... of course, the last time I kicked it, it told me to go play Bad Rats...
if she is who i think she is, then she is introduced on the second map, not sure how much more involvement she has in the game later on though
also i don't think she is an elf
It appears to be for a Steam key (because it says "Steam" in bold on the page). Since I can't actually read their store page, though, buyer beware on that and other stuff like what the actual price is and whether it's region locked.

Chivalry is having a free weekend, maybe a good opportunity to enjoy chopping some limbs? It's just a flesh wound!

Wait...it's only 2.0? And wait...you cant connect the base you have if you DO have one?
That blows. and kills the ENTIRE PURPOSE FOR IT.

Thank you so much to @HiT BiT for Primordia! I love my adventure games and after seeing the praise it got in this thread, I'm especially excited to play it!
Infinity interests me and worries me. I think my 5 year old would love a lot of it, but at the same time, it seems like it's a bigger money sink than TF2 hats. I have the free base game installed, but haven't even let him play it, cause I'm not sure how far the rabbit hole goes.
FNG tonight is Chivalry! Start downloading it. Free Weekend. LETS GET A CHOPPIN BOYS.
9pm Eastern 6pm Pacific.
Awesome, lemme just remote desktop into my home computer, start steam, then start the download for chivalry either via remote desktop or the Steam app.
If I have one concern about this thread, it's that it encourages a sort of conspicuous consumption gifting that can be taken to impractical, even unhealthy excess. People throw gifts around to show off their disposable wealth and acquire community favor. The questionable utility of these gifts (due to the size of existing backlogs) is often acknowledged, laughed at and dismissed in one breath. Because reputation is tied to gifting and vice versa, there is a feedback effect; the "rockstars" tend to receive the majority of the gifts, though they give their share as well. There is also the risk that some may actually end up giving beyond their means in order to feel accepted and valued by the community.
These same issues are, of course, present in any gift economy. Humans are both social and competitive, and we will find ways to compete even when it comes to being "generous." I merely think we should keep them in mind, even when the giddiness of a Dale or widespread giftbombing tends to carry us away.

I tried to ask @Berylline an innocent question related to bunnies in the Steam chat and instead of an answer she decided to shoot me a link for Kickbeat.
Thank you very much, bunny empress!

Yup.
Public Service Announcement. If you want to play Disney Infinity on your PC, its better to buy the box set and figures for another console of your choice, and input the codes contained within to unlock those characters through the free Disney Infinity 2.0 client.
Otherwise, you're buying the heroes to play in the game but not getting the cool figurines in the process. I also believe the price is the same, so it's bollocks to just buy the digital heroes.

Yeah, that was my impression.
And Tera Titty Tuesdays, which are also awesome and still going strong with most of the original players still participating.
