So. Rock Zombie showed up in the Steam store yesterday (just noticed).

A zombie invasion of a rock concert.

I can't decide if this looks like the best thing ever or the worst. Still, zombies. And rock music. I mean, yeah. That seems like a hard recipe to get wrong.

All the gamplay trailers I watched made Rock Zombie look like a very poor version of, like, Final Fight and that genre. Very little variation in moves, the same "attack" sound effect over and over ...

Every time I think to myself I should branch out a bit and visit other parts of PA, I go and check out the thread for some other game (hello Dragon Age!) and maybe post a bit, but I'm invariably soon reminded why I just stick to this one.

    I <3 U, Steam Thread.

Steam Thread <3's you too (and you Ed.)

This is pretty funny, though coming from the how-can-you-not-get-games-on-other-services evangelist. ;)

There are plenty of other awesome parts of the PA community like the Build Thread, Wangs Without Borders and the SE++ Steam Thread just to name a few. We've had mods express concern before that the G&T Steam Thread is a little insular. So, you know, be careful with talk about us v. them.

I'm the same. There are a few threads I have bookmarked but I often forget that penny-arcade is a webcomic and not just this forum. And I don't know if I have ever even ventured outside of G&T. That's just too far out of my comfort zone.

D&D is great if you want to talk to people with a superiority complex who are mad that they never got picked for their highschool debate team.
H/A is great if you want to talk to people who don't know how to talk to people (90% of their problems could be solved by talking to the person they're mad at).
Artists Corner is great if you want to lurk and look at cool forumer art.
There are other subforums I guess but they're not really worth mentioning.
    I keed I keed, honest!

As for the Steam thread being insular we do have our own in-jokes and our own lingo, but I don't think you could find an example of anyone not welcoming new people or being nice to people who pop in from elsewhere in the forum.

Also I still have a copy or two of Muri leftover from the sale. PM me if you want one.

Wait...it's only 2.0? And wait...you cant connect the base you have if you DO have one?

That blows. and kills the ENTIRE PURPOSE FOR IT.

    Yup.

Public Service Announcement. If you want to play Disney Infinity on your PC, its better to buy the box set and figures for another console of your choice, and input the codes contained within to unlock those characters through the free Disney Infinity 2.0 client.

Otherwise, you're buying the heroes to play in the game but not getting the cool figurines in the process. I also believe the price is the same, so it's bollocks to just buy the digital heroes.

The codes for various heroes are also super cheap on ebay since a lot of us on the console versions are selling them there to recoup $2-3 per hero. So for $10ish you could probably get three or four characters to play with in the toy box mode.

Has anyone had a look at Wickland? It's in the current Bundlestars Ballistic Bundle and it looks like it could be fun for a Friday Night Gaming session. Also, was a game ever picked for tonight? I doubt I can make it but I'm curious. I'm now going to Isorn because he is the only of my friends who owns Wickland so I would like to hear his thoughts.

    @Ed Gruberman

I know it is pretty similar to old school Quake but with a fantasy theme. Supposed to have a singleplayer down the line as well. It looks really fun.
Haven't really played it yet though because I have been working 12 hours a day for a couple days now. I do have a solution to find out more about the game though.

It's essentially just a sandbox mode- I know in the console versions you can get playsets to do things, but sandbox mode is essentially just a build-you-own-thing mode. I don't know if you can simply download the works of others, though... it looks like you end up making your own buildings and choosing a character to run around in it.

I figure if I stumble on a thread, or subforum I like, I'll stay and enjoy it, and if I don't, I wont, and I won't become offended or annoyed or whatever at people already in that space. This forum is huge enough to find one's comfortable space without denigrating other areas of the forum or insulting other forumers.

With that said, it seems no one has brought up the new Weekly Humble Bundle, which has at it's head Costume Quest 2.

The Humble Weekly Bundle (Presented by Joystiq) includes:
Beat Hazard Ultra (with Shadow Operations Unit DLC)
    Intake
    Dungeon of Elements
    The Dream Machine (Chapters 1-4)

    Pay $6+ to Unlock:
    Slender: The Arrival
    Primal Carnage

    Pay $15+ to Unlock:

And yes, I do note the normal price for CQ2 is also 15 bucks.

I don't understand Disney Infinity. I've looked at the store page (admittedly, on my phone, so hard to get full picture) and I'm still a bit unsure what it is. Like, you can play with all these Disney characters together? Doing what? The "toy box" mode sounds like it's a sandbox... but is there a point/goal/whatever, or are you just running around going "cool, I'm Ironman"? And you have to buy the character separately? But not through Steam?

    /confused
there are 2 parts to the game, playsets and toybox.

The playsets are themed "story mode" adventures based on various franchises. Last time I checked there are currently Avengers / Spiderman / Guardians of the Galaxy playsets.
you are limited to the characters that make sense in each world.... so Ironman, Hulk and the main Avengers cast in the Avengers playset or Starlord and Groot etc. in the GotG playset.
*through the collection of hidden tokens ingame you can expand the roster in each playset slightly to characters that have made a cameo in that universe such as Rocket Raccoon, who can be made playable in the Avengers set because comics love crossovers

Toybox is a sandbox mode, you can take any character (or combination of characters you own if playing multi) and drop them in an open playspace.
you can build your own levels using parts found in the game, and even set rules for them using a simple object editor. this means you can make a racing game or a platformer or a puzzle game if you put in a little bit of time and effort.
or simply make a battle arena and throw in some spawning enemies.

the Infinity games can be fun, but they are fairly simplistic.
2.0 is a little better than the original with the inclusion of skill trees for each character to spice things up a little.

It is still disappointing that the Playsets still do not allow "guest" characters other than the pre-assigned ones, so you will never be able to run around Spidermans world as Elsa from Frozen (unless you make a version of it in Toybox)

the Steam Version is totally digital, so you do not need/get the toys to play with and admire. you can buy them digitally but the price is a little high for what you get imo.
I believe (but have not confirmed) that if you buy a physical character toy, it comes with a code you can input in the game to unlock that character that way.

If you want to check it out, you can get the Avengers playset and Ironman (maybe black widow too?) to play with for free here
