It might be your monitor, mine does that because it's dying.

For some reason it'll do it when I'm getting a cellular call.

you can fix it by rigging your microwave to switch on with the door open and then stand in front of it and hold your computer up next to it

No about once every day or so, when one of my friends calls me.

Also it could be your hard drive.

My hard drive stopped working the other day and it had over 7,000 songs on it. I'm fucking pissed. Any good ideas how I can get the data on it recovered?

I had a nasty swampy thing going on in my skivvies yesterday after working 12 hours. I had to apply about a metric ton of Gold Bonds powder to my nuts last night and again this morning.

You know, I haven't really talked about it with real life friends, but I always feel odd about putting baby powder down there. Mind you, I do it every single day, especially after gym time. I'm just wondering how many other dudes make it a part of their routine.

medicated gold bond in the summer, baby powder in the winter.

well..... I used to. not really enough circulation down there to worry much about things like "sweat" or "fluid" or "blood".

I used to use a lot of gold bonb powder down there when I was in the infantry

We'd be walking 14 hours a day through the the woods in places like Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, Virginia, all the hot places.

Get a massive nasty rash if you didn't use it.

Data recovery is hella expensive. Start redownloading your music.

Yeah, but has anybody ever done it? I'm talking like 8 years of downloading here.

I used to send drives in for data recovery all the time at my last job, with OnTrack. They always got the data back, but it costs over $2000.

A guy I know had it done to recover his senior thesis project.

It cost him a couple grand if I remember correctly.

For a thesis project, probably worth it.

    For music? Probably not.

There are download.com programs that will get it off for you but they'll charge by the GB. As Tycho described it once, the program finds all of your data and then holds it hostage.

If the OS on the drive just isn;t booting but the drive still phsycially works, make a Bart PE cd and run a chkdsk /r on the drive, may make it boot normally again long enough to back up your data

also a bart pe cd will give you a file explorer and you can just boot from CD and see if you access your drive data

I dont know if it mechanically failed or not. It still shows up in windows, but when I try to access it it says "Drive not formatted. Would you like to format it now?" So I can't do anything with it. If you open a problem that tries to go to that drive, it just locks.

Wise-A make one of those CDs, boot from it and see if it will notice your hard drive

if it does use the file explorer to back up your data. Make sure to enable network services when it prompts you

Looking at the Bart thing though, thats only if the Hard Drive is the one you are booting from. I am actually booting to a working hard drive, but the data I want to recover is on my secondary hard drive, so no booting issues.

sounds like you aren't completely dead

when my harddrive died, i couldn't get any computers to recognize it at all, and when it tried to spin up it would make a terrible grinding and clicking noise

i had to choose between losing the better part of 25,000 songs, or paying a couple grand to recover it

i am still in the process of reclaiming all the music :(

    Yuck city.

I don't know if thats the route I wanna go yet. There is some really good stuff on that hard drive.

Maybe I'll buy another HD, take out the broken one and pack it away. Then when I hit the lottery I'll get the data recovered.
