Okay, so splitting gems between two games seems to have been a bad idea. I'll consolidate into Trails of the Sky when I get home. Divinity can wait for a sale maybe.

Going for one of the big games is a fool's game.
Look at the number of bids. That's how many people are tracking it on their page.
At a certain point, you're dealing with people who have a lot of Steam credit so they have to stay within the ecosystem, and also people who are essentially paying X amount of dollars for a badge.
Yeah but even on Steam it's been like $20 and will be again in a week, and if they wanted a badge, they could drop 2000 gems on a little auction.
I think even with a (currently) fairly simple real money->fake money conversion, gems are benefiting from a currency abstraction.
There is also the competitive nature of bidding in auctions. A lot of people, especially with the abstract currency, will lose sight of value when trying to beat the other bidders. And this event is taking place within a community of gamers so yeah. Leave your common sense at the door, it's time to dominate.

Well, I was #50 when I went all-in on Trails, so my hope is that I could possibly slip in.
Divinity though just wouldn't work. All in didn't even register on the radar of Top 100.
Darn, someone out final pushed me on this one. I probably should have tried to push earlier. Once everyone gets home from work this may amp more than it has already.

There's also a bit of myopia as certain games have bids that are out of whack with their dollar value. For example, Dungeon of the Endless is bidding at 15K right now which translates into $15.05 in gems (at $1.01 for 1K gems) for a $12.99 game. In contrast, Drox Operative is a 20 dollar game that I picked up for 5100 gems (or about $5.05 in value). Similarly, the other two games I'm looking at are Hegemony Rome (30 dollar gaame for 7K gems (7.07 in value) and The Last Federation (20 dollar game for 6K gems (6.06 in value)).
So right now, there are some very, very good deals to be had, especially if you're putting your own money into the gem market (which I haven't yet, but I may if these ratios hold for the more niche titles).
One good thing about this auction stuff is that all of these games were donated by their developers. Therefore, I think they stand a good chance of popping up in Flash/Daily deals with good discounts when the Gale actually starts.
Even if I win nothing from the auctions, it's good to know the playing field in the upcoming event.
Yeah the average bid amounts in the ones I'm still following are actually starting to rise now more than clam down. Seems like that trend will probably hold until either late tonight or tomorrow am.

I'll probably put some gems on 1 or 2 items a few hundred below their current winning bids and let them ride through the night to see what happens.
Some of the items I'm tracking have been gradually declining so that's positive. And there's still over two days left in it. Gems appear to be costing more by the hour and all the low purchase items are nearly all gone from the marketplace.
The new lowest bid tab has opened it up to a free for all though.
Wolfenstein's been ending at ~34k for the last few. Sacks of gems are up to a dollar, so that could instead be turned into $34 for a game that's been on sale for like $15.

Valkyria Chronicles keeps going for $30-35 worth of gems. The game's normal price is $20.
What's the best way to get gems if I'm locked out of the market? Just burning items for gems, right? That's the only way?
There isn't one really - any appreciable gem amount would require a ton of emoticons and backgrounds to burn. I burned 40-50 the first day to get most of my stash, from converting a couple bucks of wallet.
Is there any way to get a second page to appear on the search results for these auctions? It's nice and all that they have a "lowest bids" tab now, but why only show me 15 of them?

I hope you didn't convert cards. That would have been silly.
No I sold extra cards and made boosters from the stuff I disenchanted (backgrounds and stuff) and sold the cards and earned like 3 bucks. I had 270 gems left over so I threw them at an auction of Evil Genius. I'm ranked 119 so I know I won't get that
There's 10,000+ bags of gems on the market that are in the priced higher than most folks chunk. Seems like there should be a gem price crash at some point.

Number of bags keeps dropping.
It was 16,000 earlier today.
I get the feeling they're all being bought by one dude.
Gem market won't go down till after the auction. The only question is whether this is the end of the meta event for the sale, or if there is a phase two, and what that may involve beyond crafting holiday cards.
Alright alright - I'll fix up my Dark Souls and then I'll look at the gems and bidding. I can't keep reading about it and trying to avoid it - it's calling to me! Who knows what I could get?
Also, F2P for $5 or not - this still looks like it could be fun with the right people. Apparently it's a free browser game as well, but then it wouldn't be serving the Newell.
Well, I guess maybe it still has room to grow then. The bid amounts are going up and so is the gem bag value. Cashing out is starting to look good.
Went ahead and cashed out.
Made a few Steambucks for a bunch of emotes and backgrounds that, a month ago, I couldn't give away.
I still have some token bids on a few things that either everybody already has or nobody else wants.
I like the gem/auction system they went with this year.
It feels much less like micromanaging zerglings.

If only they hadn't launched with such zanniness. Also I'm still suspicious that its a double feint and there is going to be some use for the gems during the actual sale.
I'm still not seeing 1080p support, though. Didn't Durante famously say it took him all of 20 minutes or something like that to script it in?
Take all the effort to carve out GfWL and re-implement Steamworks multiplayer and facilities... leave out something that should be a trivial fix and that you, in fact, already figured out for the sequel. Freaking weirdos.

Soo.... I guess I'll make me some boosters later.

(yes, yes, I could buy it for 75% off most likely during the sale but that's not the point!)

Let's see if I can turn them into another game.

Durante has updated DSfix to be fully compatible with new Steamworks version.
60fps is back.

Fall down seven times. Stand up eight.
Yeah you still need DSfix. Here it is! Just dump everything into the Data folder and adjust all settings in the DSfix ini file rather than in-game.
