Pulled my gems from Trails in the Sky and Divinity because I saw some other stuff for sale on my wishlist. So now I've got it split between five games and pretty high in all of them.
Working overtime these past 2 months has been a pain in the ass for my gaming curriculum, but I am glad to get a brief respite every now and then.
I have only been skimming most of this past week's thread and Steam updates, since it's moving so fast that any sudden stops would probably give someone backlash.
Haven't explored the auction yet. Seems amusing, but too time consuming for me to participate in at the moment.
What's next Steam!? Will they allow us to sell and trade-in our games off next? What about mods, letting us sell those too!!?
Because I can imagine the back-alley dealings going on if this happened...

The gf is on a business trip this week, so I'll start streaming tomorrow night. I'll have to look into how the mic situation works with steam streaming.
Bulletstorm is great, and I'm sure some people on the forums would help out if you wanted to do some of the co-op.
You can only buy gems with Steam wallet, I can't just paypal it out?
I was thinking of picking up 1 sack and grabbing Eterium since its nice at low at 1,100 right now, but kinda annoying to have to put $5 in to make a $1.20 purchase
Dark Souls needs cards now that it's steamworks. Like, now.

I think the only problem now is that I don't think I can play Dark Souls off-line anymore, which was kind of the point for me as "fuck PvP" is my general attitude.

For those of you who've hit @Karoz up on his offer to match each $20 donation, please take a gander at the spoiler below and consider chipping in a small amount more to grant yourself entry to the 100% bespoke 8-16bit pixel art giveaway
This year I'd like to throw my hat in the ring and provide a stretch goal opportunity for the generous people in this great community we call Penny Arcade.
Over the last few months, I've been working away at a new hobby that brings great pixel art off the screen into physical, tangible items for display. Dungeon of the Endless has been the primary inspiration to give this art form a go and I just finished my 5th piece, with plenty more in various stages of completion
But it's time to mix it up, and this is where you come in!
If the stretch goal amount is achieved, everyone who donates $30 or more will go into a pool where one lucky winner will receive a hand-made, 8-16bit inspired era pixel art of their choosing (details in below spoiler). This is a physical piece of art that I'll send to you, wherever you are in the world, for you to own and cherish.
I'm looking forward to the challenge everyone, so get those donations in!
Ideally it'd be a favoured game character from the 8-16bit era or games inspired by it (as that's what my experience is in), but it could even be your forum avatar. We'll work something out that you'll think is rad.
As I use 10mm wooden cubes, the maximum for the piece is 30-40px high and 30-40px wide. For reference in the above photo, Ness (red armour) is 42px high and consists of 554 cubes - it's pretty massive and provides plenty of room for detail.
The artwork can be mounted on painted board as pictured, or it can be sent free-standing and simply secured for postage that you can then remove. Speaking of which...
I'm fully aware how expensive international postage for items this large from my neck of the woods, but I'll cover the cost with a smile.
I'm working on my biggest one yet, and the next could be yours!

So far I've won Subnautica and a SpaceCom and I've got gems left for another game or two off my wishlist. Not bad for dropping five bucks on holiday profile backgrounds when they were three cents, turns out that was an ok move. Not a bad way to kick off the holiday sale.

Yeah, $5 for SpaceCom, Vector Thrust, and Consortium was a fantastic deal. Plus, I got to get rid of all those lame backgrounds and emoticons that I never use.
So, I apparently spend to much time in this thread. For my RL sanity, I won't be here as much. I know most you will understand. If you don't, I'm sorry. I will still read the thread kind of. I'm not likely to enter any crazy things, unless I find them fun. I will still try and make it to FNG, but just not regular. Consider that if for some crazy reason you still think I need games. Give it to a newbie. They need love too.
Yes game, I get it already, this is Dracula's superhuge, space-defying, probably-possessed-by-a-demon castle. I have spent three chapters in this place and am on the fourth still scaling the walls. Let me kill the vampire boss so I can leave.
Lots of prices softened overnight. Wolfenstein is down 10k to around 22k. YNAB is down from over 30k to 11.4. Shroud of the Avatar down to 22k, Clockwork Empires now under 10k at about 9, etc.
Ziggurat hasn't budged, though. Holding strong around 11k.
Folks, this is our last week for the charity drive. We haven't passed a milestone in over a week, so let's dig deep and see if we can't at least get $10,000.
Remember, @karoz is going to match all donations of $20 or less, so even the little donations count!
Hahaaa, brilliant. This gave me a good chuckle. Thanks muchly @Iolo!
I've been pondering today if I have enough gems to snaffle anything for sneaky auction winning and giftage. I don't think I do. (370 in total, hah)
PS - I should add, I'm super-excited about this game. Sounds amazing! Between this and Sunless Sea, I'll have to be physically dragged from virtual waters. Thanks again!

I won Kingdoms Rise last night for 5100 gems and now the leading bid is 2800 so that's a pretty significant drop. I don't mind though because the game is usually around $15 and it's still early access but it looks like a multiplayer/co-op Dark Souls so I really want to try it out. If the prices keep going like this, I might have to get me some more gems though.

Nice! Try to do it before 10am PST if you can. That's when (a) the charity drive ends, (b) the Winter Gale starts, and (c) the thread jumps to Sale Speed (TM).
EDIT: Nope. Charity drive goes through 12/21. Sorry for any confusion.
From now until the end of the Winter Gale, I'm going to run an experiment.
It seems to me that attaching a gem price to the items creates a baseline / msrp / objective value for them. If so, there should be some willingness on the part of the community to use gems as currency.
This might sound weird - "why don't you just trash the things you don't care about?" - but it comes down to a few things:
- I really like trading. It's a quirk.
- I don't like the idea of sending things to the bit-bucket. Had to recycle a couple of things to get started, but the fewer the better.
- I really don't like the marketplace.
So, in a nutshell:
1) I want a Don't Starve card that you have, but you're not looking to make any badges. I give you either the 32 gems it's worth or a gem-equivalent.
2) You want a Beat Hazard card I have, but lack any cards I care about. You give me either the 22 gems it's worth or a gem-equivalent.
3) I may sell backgrounds and emoticons for the gem price.
The usual cards-for-cards option is still available.
That's a great idea. And as soon as I have more gems I may go shopping at your fine establishment. If anybody wants my stuff for gems I'll certainly take those trades as well.
