Issue installing SSD

I got a new computer recently and before installing anything important to it I wanted to add an SSD to boot the OS and a couple other programs from.

I've connected it no problem but Windows doesn't detect it. I've tried rescanning/refreshing from Disk Management with no luck and I'm not really sure where to go from here.

My OS is Windows 8.1 and the SSD is a SanDisk Ultra II.

Usually when stuff like this happens, you have to format the drive first. But it's odd that disk management wouldn't pick it up.

Download gparted and remove all other drives on your computer then see if you can get the drive formatted and partitioned for NTFS. If gparted doesn't see it, you must likely have a bad drive.

Another thing to look for is to check to see what your SATA is set to, if it's set to emulate IDE (PATA emulation), AHCI, or Raid.

not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me

Does the drive show up in the BIOS listing? Alternatively, does the bootup splash screen show it as attached? I'm sorry to say this sounds like a classic case of a DOA drive.

You could also try connecting it to a USB case/shell and see if it's recognized from there.

I'm unique. Just like everyone else.

Tried all of the above as well as switching out the cable and different ports. Looks like a return is in order.
