Hmm, yeah, maybe I'll try out LeBlanc, since I did buy her for some reason. My husband's learning Annie right now (inspired by watching Annie Bot's stream--which I recommend; he's a friendly-seeming guy), which also seems like a solid option. Definitely a big part for me learning any of these champions would be just having a sense of how much damage they do at various points with various items, which can really only be gained by playing a bunch of games as them.
Fizz and Zed are better assassins to learn with honestly. LeBlanc has a lot of mechanical complexity to use on the fly, and unlike a lot of assassins Zed and Fizz have better disengage.

I like Lebonk quite a bit, but shares a similar learning hurdle to Zed, that is keeping track of the teleport locations. I found Fizz much easier to learn since he's just got the troll poll, which is more intuitive. That said I really like Lebonk because of the teleport mechanic.

Talon is probably a better AD assassin to learn the role with than Zed. Similar idea, less mechanical complexity. Granted, he's probably nowhere near as viable in the meta. I haven't played in a while.
Zed is difficult not just because you have to keep track of his shadows for swapping, but because you have to develop an intuitive sense of the geometry required to land two or three shurikens with one cast. That is vital to securing kills in lane and in early to mid game skirmishes.
Hahaha, what'd I tell you. First time Liss in ranked. Crushed it.
Clearly this winter vacation has unlocked my true cosmic powers.

Eventually Riot will realize that a tough-as-nails character with movement, cc, and decent waveclear has slightly different itemization needs than other casters. Until they get some actual attention from the devs, Lissandra and Gragas will remain pretty amazing against people who aren't used to them.
IMO the best assassin to play when learning is Akali. She's the most point and click of them, she gets free sustain, a fairly easy laning phase, she's good at roaming, but once you get to the team fight phase you have to start learning when to go in because with only her shroud(and the enemy ability to nullify it with pinks/sweeper) so you can't be too reckless.
At least for me, she's by far the easiest of the assassins to play and learn. She's also banned a lot in ranked right now though so it can be hard to get her. After her I'd probably say Fizz is one of the easiest because his troll pole is up constantly, and once you have a couple items you don't even have to hit a fish to kill a squishy target. Talon's not too hard to play either.
Leblanc and Zed both require a much higher level of mechanics than the above IMO.
Rek'sai, Zed, Fizz, Gnar, Akali, Azir, Irelia, Leblanc, Katarina, are the top bans in ranked the last week. Assassins are easy to gank early game, this jungle is hard early game, so people take them out of the game in case their jungler isn't going to have early pressure.
So I was playing ARAMs last night, and every. single. game. half the team on either side would leave or get disconnected. It was maddening, and unpleasant for everyone involved. The last game I was in had 2 disconnects on the enemy team and 3 on my side, so we had a 2 v 3 going on which was just... ugh. Not fun.
Has anyone else been having issues with this lately? It was seriously like... I played I think 5, 6 games, and EVERY SINGLE ONE had at least 2 players disconnect on at least one team.
As a rule of thumb, if you can describe a character using "easy to play" and "assassin" then they're going to get banned when there aren't any egregiously overpowered alternatives.

Also, as I mentioned when the pre-season patches came out, Akali gets a huge buff from the first Dragon her team does, making it easier for the player to get that snowball rolling.
The dragon buff is pretty miniscule at the point in the game at which you get it, and I definitely think that Akali's resurgence has more to do with many junglers not being able to gank as early as they used to. But it doesn't hurt.
Got that gucci penta kill, only the 2nd time ever on SR in a ranked game. Lucian is so fun. Very glad I decided to take cleanse as a summoner too because I had to cleanse the Ashe support's arrow to get the penta. It's funny how long the penta timer is now too, because i killed the 4th guy outside the enemy base, went inside, killed an inhib, Ashe ran to heal and came back, and then I killed her and still got the penta.
Oh man, just played a game where we started out without our Yasuo until level 6. Good thing my husband was Annie, so he just went mid (albeit itemized/specced for support) and survived vs Lissandra, whereas I, as Sivir, 1v2'ed Ashe/Braum bot and came out AHEAD in cs, while putting down a decent amount of poke. Buahahahahaha. Then Yasuo came back (when I was lvl 6/7 and Ashe/Braum were 5), so my husband rejoined me bot and we killed them immediately with a Sivir ult+Tibbers.
Also, our Yasuo was randomly plat, so he farmed himself back into the game, whereas their random plat player was Garen, who did abuse our top Riven, but was ultimately Garen.
I feel so good about that 1v2. Get on my back, team...
Oh whoops looked like I stopped farming (and also started dying--I followed some very iffy ww ults) once we started winning. Oh well.
So, I didn't have an opportunity to check the holiday hangout thread before it got removed, but has anybody seen Nocturne in play lately, or has he dropped off in utility? I saw a video the other day where he was able to do dragon at lvl 3, but the camera wasn't on him and I wasn't watching the video's minimap. All I noticed was that the duo bot lane both got the dragon bonus when they were at lvl 3.
Talking about Nocturne made me want to play him so I ran him in a ranked game and dumpstered fools. His first clear is a hell of a lot healthier than most of my junglers, and while i'm not usually a fan of squishy builds in the jungle, I went warrior stalker, botrk, then into tank and it worked phenomenally. Between botrk/smite slow and fear nobody can get away and the damage is so legit with all his free attack speed.
Yeah, if your lanes can't at least keep it close jungling is miserable.
I don't think many people understand the idea of playing defensively. If you can't win the lane, accept it and play for it - pull back, farm what you can, and don't let them have openings to damage you. There's basically three outcomes at this point... They can become really aggressive, especially if they've already gotten a kill or forced you to back once, and will start taking huge risks because they're sure they can beat you... which gives you a chance to turn the tables because they're being stupid. They can get bored and go to other lanes, which lets you signal the lanes and either follow for a more even fight or farm in peace to close the gap (if they don't get a kill from it, they're just throwing away gold and xp). Or they'll sit there and try to harass you ineffectually and it'll become a farm lane (you'll probably end up low enough you have to back, and they'll probably get the turret eventually, but it'll be a slow process and your other lanes have time to pull ahead and make it a moot point).
But most of the time I see people (especially at top) keep trying to pick fights after losing the first one. They get further behind each time and yet are somehow convinced that the next time will be different, even though the opponent is stronger and they're not.
This doesn't quite apply as much bottom, since it's so much easier to force kills there (because of champs like Leona and Thresh who can land a skillshot and lock someone down for a fast kill). But then, bottom should also receive the majority of the jungler's attention (since it puts the most people available for dragon, has the hardest-scaling champ on your team to get ahead in gold, etc)

Many people seem to want to get validation that they're winning their lane in the form of kills, which I find a little strange but probably explains the popularity and ban rate of assassins.
that feel when you counter gank a lane that's 2 levels down and they think that means you've signaled the charge of the light brigade instead of sounded the retreat
the yellow exclamation point doesn't mean "IT IS A GOOD DAY TO DIE"
I really wish they'd bring last season's jungle back, it was so much more fun to be a jungler and you even had a chance to rescue a failing team - now your only source of gold is kills and assists and its dreadful
Is it just me or the fact that we're still in preseason, but my friendlist has been very empty for at lest 3 weeks now, are you guys just playing other stuff or done entirely.
I've found that in this new jungle, even though I know Yi is still a strong pick, he's not working for me nearly as well as he did before. And he's one of my favorites to play so it's lame. Udyr and Nocturne have been working the best for me lately when I jungle.
Oddly, though it's typically not been one of my preferred roles, I'm carrying nearly every game I play at ADC lately. I just pick Lucian, Graves, or Vayne depending on the team comps and what I feel like playing, and I'm putting up 5+ KDAs nearly every game from the position. I think all my time playing assassins and Yi jungle has finally bled off to ADC so now I realize that I must wait to go in until I can absolutely do so without getting blown up instantly and it's helped my game in a huge way. That, and I'm farming better in lane which is of course important to get rolling.
Trick: "Give me RFlegendary"
Announcer: "Good choice as he has the highest point total"
QTPie: "Who has the second highest?"
Announcer: "X"
QTPie: "yeah give me him".
Then Nightblue just vomits stupid everywhere.
To be fair, RF Legendary works really well with Trick's playstyle.

For whatever reason Udyr actually just hasn't been getting it done for me this season for the few game I've played. Vi is amazing. Rek'sai performs well so long as the rest of the team isn't being shitlords and lets me get off the ground.
even trick barely plays udyr anymore, that's the most obvious sign that something's wrong with the champ.

I'm not sure why it is. It could be that even though he still does well in farming, the added difficulty is just enough to make it so he can't get his money breakpoints at the right times to do what he needs to do as a champ, because underfarmed or parity Udyr is actually pretty sad.

That and learning when you can roam.

Zed is also super safe farming in lane for an assassin.

Ugh, that was a mistake. Rek'sai and Annie just bullshit themselves around the map killing everything.
At least my ping was okay and stayed around 100 the entire time.
