Jinx is a good example of how to do "not conservatively dressed but also clearly not designed for titillation." Sure she's dressed fairly scantily, but her design screams a bunch of crazy things at you, none of which are "I was designed to make you think about sex with me."
I think Jinx is just good. Like, she's never been a bad pick since she came out.
She has very well defined strengths* and weaknesses**. She's both a very smartly designed champion, and her theme is distinct and fun.
*pushing towers down, good range waveclear, poke-and-catch with Zap!, snowbally teamfighting with her passive resets
**no escape, very fragile when caught, requires assistance from her team to protect her to get that crucial reset
Reading all this Pantheon talk makes me want to try him. This is the exact same problem I have with fighting games haha.
It's also so funny to me to read about what champions you are choosing to learn; I've been playing this game for...2.5 years, I think, and I've played less than 5 games EVER on Garen, Rengar, Pantheon, Aatrox, Jax, Tryndamere...basically if anyone is a melee bruiser, and especially if their character design is 'big dude with weapon', I have 0 desire to play them. Riot is really good at providing a diverse champion pool so that people with entirely different aesthetics can be really happy.
Haha, I always gravitate to big grappler-type characters in fighting games. My main in SF4 is Abel, a rushdown mixup grappler.
In non-FG's, I do like the vanilla big dude with big weapon archetype. Rengar still counts as he has two respectably sized stabby things. (That's not a noife...) Otherwise yes, who is the biggest dude with the biggest sharp thing in his hand? I never play women characters in game, just kind of an RP thing for me.
What i think is odd is that my wife likes Jinx's character design, music video and Lunar Revel skin. I think Jinx is kinda aimed to appeal to a different demo, but my wife thinks she looks cool. That was unexpected.
I think I have enough RP left over to buy Jarvan, which I will probably do tonight after work.
It's always interesting to hear how people gravitate towards certain characters / designs. I find I do that heavily when I first get into a game. Where is the bad ass sexy lady character to beat people up with is my own preference. But I also find that as I get more into the game itself I tend to slowly move towards mechanics that are better for me. Like when I started playing LoL in season one the first two characters I got were Sivir and Morgana. But if you were to ask me who my favorite characters to play now it would be Annie, Zilean, and Varus. And funny enough I HATE Varus' base design. Thank god I have the arctic ops skin.
This stinks when I really really like some characters look but I just can't get ahold of how to play them. But in the end I still have fun with the dudes I'm good with even if they aren't my initial favorites.
I'm new enough to not have any strong preferences mechanics-wise, but I do always like to play a champ that I like visually. Now I'm starting to understand the limitations of certain classes and kits. I do know what I do like so far from the characters I've put play in:
Garen
+health regen, +damage spike with R, +Damage reduction W, good utility and damage on E, manaless
-no slow/stun/snare/CC, -no ranged/poke options or closing option
Rengar
+stealth attacks/R, +snare/root, +medium sustain with W, +spiky with just Q, manaless
-sustain is very low compared to Garen, -struggles vs ranged unless I get the jump, -cannot fight tanky chars
What I hope to like with Jarvan
+good poke with Q, +slow/shield, +knock up/dash with EQ, +CC with dash and ult, decent damage spikes(?)
What I don't think I will like:
-Mana management, -I don't know how to/can't jungle yet, incoming nerf(?), -no sustain(?)

My wife doesn't play, yet. She has expressed interest. I don't know how it will work out yet because we don't even have a gaming PC. I'm playing this on a Surface 3 lol.

Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.
Anyone going to be around tonight and want to play some normals? I'm almossttttt level 30 (yeah, I'm not 30 yet...sorry I spent the last three years playing Doters). I'd like to just plow through the last 1.5 levels with some PA folks rather than pubbing it.

While you carry Roz, I'll piggyback on the Gnome-train to victory if you'll have me.

When are they going to make a more curvy female champ. They all have such unattractively-thin waists that look like they'd snap in half if they sneezed too hard.

LoL runs pretty well on high-end mac laptops, and probably on other laptops as well, if you've got one. I use a gaming PC unless I'm traveling, but my husband uses a mac laptop always and it's fine (although he sometimes just uses the trackpad and not a mouse! whyyyyyyy).
In order to deal with lack of sustain, buy health potions. Health pots are great and each only cost 35g, ie 2 cs. I buy health potions in any position I'm playing, early-midgame, until my inventory becomes too full for them.
RIP in Pepperoni, Pedro.
"Fuck your boots."
But...the mess, Siv. T_T
Especially don't encourage people to play Blitz mid. That's my secret, and now people are going to ruin it.
What's next? Siv does support Rammus? Stop giving away all the secret OP-ness, Siv!

Pretty much. They did a big retcon late last year which amounted to "most of what we already wrote is now no longer canon". Many champions have been left with a couple lines of lore at most. They do story events/features every once in a while to flesh out things, but lore is so far down on Riot's priority list as to be mostly nonexistent.
Here's a recent promo that they did when relaunching Sion. It's pretty good! http://promo.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/reborn/ Unfortunately, most of the other stuff they've done post-massive retcon has been... flimsy at best.

To be fair, no matter how much effort they put in to lore, most people would ignore it, or ridicule them for spending that time on lore instead of Issue X. I kind of don't blame them for just saying fuck it.

Yeah, I think in terms of satisfying their playerbase and attracting new players they get a much better return out of making stuff that basically has no lore, but is meant to be shared and enjoyed like that teamfight video last fall. I cannot remember the name of it... it had Ahri, Rengar, Draven, Jax, Graves, etc. in it.
They're not trying to tell a story, they're not even trying to make any of what happens on SR make sense... they just want people to understand the themes around each champion. Knowing the royal line of succession isn't going to help you understand Jarvan IV, seeing a picture of him in badass armor regally posed with his huge spear will.

About that teamfight video, is it just me, but compared to videos for stuff like WoW/Smite, the LoL videos are very... visceral in the explicit and implicit violence and death.
Leona gets ult'ed by Darius and looks pretty much dead, Rengar oneshots Draven, Graves kills Katarina and Nautilus outright etc. I mean, even in the earlier video, Garen tried to straight up finish off Katarina but was blocked by Tryndamere.
Just kinda grim is all. Especially in that the game palette is light and fun to an extent. Ahri basically running for her life like a hunted animal doesn't seem fun to watch. I don't know. I had a weird feeling watching. In a way, I'm kind of used to the bloodless and somewhat sanitized videos of other games. It's weird to know that Katarina and her whole team is basically dead-dead, as far as that video is concerned. Poor Draven.
Edit: @Transporter I do have Sion. I am not good with him. I don't know how to use ults that aren't finishers I guess, like Garen's. I have the same issue with Rengar lol.

I don't really like new Sion. I feel like the big axe chop is just too hard to use effectively in League of Mobility.
Yeah, Sion's ult is very much the opposite of a finisher. Sion's a great teamfight initiator--which, of course, means that by playing Sion, you are taking on some responsibility in deciding for your team when/where a good time/place is to have teamfights (you decide this by ulting into the enemy team). This can feel like a kind of high-pressure role to be put in, but it's nice for a team to have some kind of initiation beyond "we all run at them!"
Sion's ult can be a finisher if you need to finish a fight by becoming immune to CC and running away really fast; it's pretty good at that, too.
I felt the thread title wasn't sufficient to fully describe this absurdity.
I mean everyone loves a good lets crap on riots lore team joke, because well the lore is pretty terrible but come on..... I mean really are we going to deliberately that last sentence as their a race just to crap on riot here..... They're obviously describing people who wonder around and tell the stores of the kingdom. Seriously I am kind of saddened by the fact that people even actually thought that... and were not being sarcastic...
