I hate going up against a mill deck on my priest. I had taken out 3 hunters in a row around rank 10, and then just got stonewalled by a druid mill deck.
Some kind of neutral legendary/epic that restored 'burnt' cards would be great.
Mill decks in Hearthstone seem to be even more controlly than standard control decks. That would mean the non-mill deck has to be the beatdown in the match and get threats on board so they can't be forced into discard. A control deck that can't manage that is going to have issues similar to how an aggro deck that can't do board control versus facehunter faces issues.
against my mill mage, my paladin opponent played his last card... a friggen 47/7 bolivar.
i was much impressed.
(yes of course it got big game huntered)
This exact same thing happened to me in mill druid. I swiped away his knife juggler and muster for battle combo. He bothered to thank me afterwards and dropped Bolvar. I replied with a sorry and brought the beast down.
Considering Dr Boom is so popular, meaning BGH is, I think there is something to be said in to not be too greedy when it comes to Bolvar and just plonk him down as a 6/7 for 5 mana if you haven't seen a BHG come out (beyond "that is a huge creature!", is there any need for a 47/6 Bolvar? Could he not have come out much earlier as a not quite impressive 20/7?).
I came up against a Mill mage the other day on my handlock; I couldn't have had an easier time as I got my Mountain Giants out even cheaper than usual and Drakes with lots of health. Then a Mill druid and that was even worse for the other guy.
Granted I then came up against a Control Warrior and proceeded to draw absolutely nothing that could be used.

So do folks play different decks at different stages of the ladder? I've been stuck at R 16/17 most seasons and I'd like to make a concerted effort to get further just to test my skill. I usually play around with a few decks over the course of the season, but I never really take a "meta temperature" to see what I should be playing. I just put something together I find fun and go from there.
Certainly it's a skill problem more than a deck problem, but I'm wondering if maybe I should just play zoo until a certain rank and then branch out into different decks.
I'm not sure people play entirely different decks because they're now in the 10-5 range, but tweaking a few cards here or there is a pretty common response to a meta shift. Like putting in BGH if you run into a lot of control, or Harrison Jones if you're finding a lot of warriors.
I feel like it would have to be a huge, overwhelming wave of dudes playing a class/strategy to really make that worth it unless you're playing dozens of games a day though. I mean even if 30% of the meta was warrior, there have to be thousands of people at a given rank playing every other class still.
Having said that though, since I've been puttering around the mid teens this season, I've mostly just been playing giants mage since it crushes hunter/zoo/whatever aggro cancer.
I have been running a combo druid at my current rank, it seems like it should be winning more games, but I'll usually win 2 or 3, then lose 2 or 3.

I think I am just bad.
I'm finding combo druid really tough now, warlock and warrior have a much easier time of getting big dudes out while not sacrificing utility. Innervate + Ancient of Lore turn 5 still dies to Doomguard, let alone Flame Imp + Abusive Sergeant, and Swipe just doesn't cut it as removal any more. Taunt ramp has an easier time of it.
Let's poll the audience, I have enough dust to craft one legendary. I still mostly play agro decks because of the relatively budget cost, although I recently cracked and crafted my missing molten/mountain giants for a handlock deck and I'm loving playing it so far. The legendaries I already have (not including the naxx ones) are:
Velen
Jaraxxus
Tirion Fordring
Ragnaros (my only legendary craft so far)
Malygos
Baron Geddon
Mekgineer Thermaplugg (blarg)
I'm leaning either towards Boom (since he is the new hotness that fits into a lot of decks, and if he gets nerfed I can always deconstruct him again) or Sylvanas (because she also seems to fit into so many mid-range decks). The Black Knight is another possibility, and I would also love to have Alex to be able to make some more control decks like freeze mage more accessible, especially with my recently crafted giants.

I had no low-cost options and thoughtsteal in hand, which wasn't helping me at all. I probably didn't play it right, but after that game I realized I didn't have 2 sludge belchers in my 'control priest' deck and it's been subsequently scrapped.

If you want to stay on the aggro side of things, I'd go with Dr. Boom or TBK. Boom will almost always be good in most decks, by drawing out a BGH or simply being a solid turn 7 play. TBK is just great at keeping tempo and destroying Sludge Belchers, which find their way in a lot of decks.

Boom is great because you never have to sit on him. Sylvanas needs there to be dudes on the other side of the board to force inefficient trades. TBK waits til they play one of their Sludge Belchers. Alex is effin' rad as hell, but if she's not used in conjunction with like 3 other legendaries she's not going to win you many games. Boom + Rag is a brutal lategame core that works for every class.

Thanks for the responses, pretty much solidifying my crafting of Dr. Boom later tonight. Alex I would have made to add to my handlock deck or make a mage control deck, but I kind of wanted something with a little more flexibility.
Nnnngg, so jealous. I want a Gazlowe for a gimmicky spare parts deck.

Total Arena shenanigans last night. Had a Druid play an Owl which then got that Taunt + 5 health spell on it. He then proceeds to play three consecutive Druid of the Fangs. Fucking bullshit, I tell you.

Hmm, Troggzor, Crush or Gorehowl for a control warrior deck? Cairne is too puny for that slot.
I find Troggzor to be more useful against decks that use spells to remove my threats (minions), Control Warrior generally uses spells to control the board and not minions so I don't think he fits well. You'll often have to play him against a full board where he suffers greatly since he has poor stats for his cost. Crush is win more unless you are expecting a ton of control decks. Gorehowl is a great addition but it can get stuck in your hand if you are running 2x fiery and 2x death's bite. I'd go with the Gorehowl or Cairne/Piloted Sky Golem. I'm running Iron Juggernaut in my spare 6 slot and it's effective against mill/warlocks, it is a poor choice vs the rest of the field.

almost the entirety of my early game was tempo cards with 3 autobarbers, backstab, and 2 deadly poisons
gallywix is incredibly strong with his stats for the cost, he would be incredible even without card text but the fact that he is a 1-way lorewalker cho means you either just lock your opponents hand or at worst trade him for a hard removal
the surprise mvp was bgh who ate at least 3(possibly more) forcetanks over the course of the run
runner up mvp was fan of knives that let me hold the board against aggression
also pulled off several ass blade, deadly, blade flurry combos which are pretty much not possible to play around
As someone who loves to play Paladin I still can't find the justification to run Bolvar
He's not the worst card ever but at the same time you can always use the slot for something better

Snakes. It has to be snakes.
I immediately dusted the DW and a few other garbage gold elites I had to craft Dr. Boom. I regret nothing.

Bomb Lobber is crazy.
When its usually played, its text might as well read "deal 4 damage to target minion" on a 3/3 body

I got sick of the Control Warrior so I was messing around with some other decks but now I'm thinking I'm sticking with the Druid.
I got Bolvar. =/
hahah we'll see, we'll see.
Why can't I win ONE MORE game tonight? I just need one more hunter or druid win but it's just not giving me the win!
This always seems to happen!
I'd say Bolvar is definitely at the same tier of usefulness as Gazlowe, and is arguably better. Rejoice!
