I can't play at this time usually but I am hopeful that within a couple days I'll be up to playing with you all one way or another. doesn't need to a tournament yet, just playing against folks who aren't as new to the game as I am is pretty exciting.
My wife kept bugging me during my games. Its like I'm twelve and my mom keeps asking if I want snacks.
She lets me have sex with her though, so she's a keeper.
+1

Checked to see if any Gamecube Adapters popped up today, and holy shit, a gamestop 23 miles away had one! The non-price-gouge-with-controllers-you-don't-need-bundle kind, too! And then I found someone actually willing to drive me 23 miles on zero notice before they close! And then I called them and someone called them before me and already had it reserved for them.
ROB versus Game & Watch has got to be the single worst matchup I have encountered so far. Game one against @AbsurdProposition was a MASSACRE. He would pop me up, use the windbox on uair to fuck up my nair, and then start juggling me with his nair. If I tried to go around to the edge of the stage and stabilize that way I'd start eating fairs. On the ground I was getting outspaced by everything. It was awful. I almost got 2-stocked, but I made something of a comeback at the end. I won round 2 with liberal use of throws (G&W dies to ROB dthrow-into-uair or regular uthrow like he's nothing), but in round 3 he stopped falling for grabs and I got obliterated again.
The pocket counterpick I've used in the past, Samus, was no good here, because she'd have had just as many floatiness problems and I wouldn't even be able to spam charged shots safely. Then I remembered good ol' Link. I figured his high weight and versatile aerials would put a stop to the windbox juggling nonsense, and his high range and priority should let him contest the ground game a lot better. And then that's exactly what happened and the rest of the tournament was fairly smooth sailing. As a bonus, the hookshot actually turned out to be good in the matchup, because G&W's attacks tend to come out quick but hang for a while (Link's grab is far too slow for most practical purposes, unlike Samus's much-improved Grapple Beam).
It was nice having an excuse to play Link seriously again. He was my main through all of Melee and Brawl, but his slow grab and gimpable recovery have made me afraid to play him lately even though I still love how he feels in general.

all friended up!
pardon if I stick to like 1-2 fighters for the most part, not sure what etiquette is but I am still pretty new and I am trying to lock down a couple before I open up and explore other fighters.

What do I have to do to unlock the Duck Hunt stage?
Get at least one KO in Cruel Smash.
So, Golden Hammer. Understood.
It's actually not that hard to get one KO. Just pick a character with a counter (I used Shulk) and spam it when they come at you, and you should get it in a few tries.
GGs again everybody! Got some exposure to a few matchups I haven't seen yet in this version, such as Robin, Wii Fit Trainer (!!), ROB and Link. The Link one has gotten way harder since Brawl, it looks like his range and power got improved significantly.
One KO in Cruel Smash is peanuts, especially because the Miis you fight can't grab the ledge or use B moves. Use Kirby or Dedede, inhale while dropping off the ledge, and spit 'em out beneath. Voila.
Now, 8 KOs, or 8 KOs with Lucina specifically, that you might want to Golden Hammer. Once you figure out which of the other backbreakingly hard challenges you can actually beat.

Alright, if that's what you want to do, I'm fine with it
