I had wanted to get through all the challenges without using a single golden hammer, but I caved yesterday and used one to unlock the "get your stats stolen by a Metroid in Smash Tour, then get them back" challenge.
I spent an hour and a half in that god-forsaken mode playing as all four characters, waiting for a Metroid to appear. When he finally did he stole Player 1's stats, warped over to Player 3, and promptly walked into Player 3's waiting fist before I could so much as pause and pick up the controller to move Player 3 out of the way.
I got to 5 kills on cruel melee with Lucina, finally decided to watch the youtube how-to, tried it, got to 4 kills, when the 5th Mii fell/stomped on my head on its way down.

x-post from wii-u thread. Don't be stupid like me.
Hey guys, I posted in here earlier about getting error code 103-1603 and 103-2003 when trying to connect to the internet with my Wii U. Turns out the issue is that the antenna for the wifi connection is on the side of the console which faces the ceiling when you lay it down. Which means that placing any object on the Wii U will effectively block the signal. Now my gamepad and charging station have been on top of the Wii U since I've gotten it, and I've never had wifi connection issues until recently. I tried connecting on Sunday after trying to fix the connection settings like 100x over and it worked fine so I figured it just fixed itself. Today I tried to play again and to my surprise, I couldn't connect again. Finally went looking around the wii u subreddit and found out the wifi antenna info. Moved the charge station and everything's fine now. Connected immediately. Figured I would share this knowledge to anyone who runs into this annoying issue like I did.
tl;dr - don't place shit on your console, fix internet issues...

Once you get in the zone you will sail right past 8 KO's without much trouble. My biggest problem was accidentally pulling myself up on the ledge instead of just hanging and dropping.

Finally trying yo finish up the last few challenges in the 3DS version, after not playing for awhile. I think slogging through All-Star mode with every character really killed the fun. Doing tons of Smash Runs to get the items I have left has been way more enjoyable.

Yeah, if a Mii is dropping it's best to hang onto the ledge and let him fall (assuming there aren't Miis about to stomp on your fingers).

I got 10 KOs as Lucina by:
1) spamming roll near the ledge and grabbing individual Miis as they approached, then bthrowing (guaranteed kill)
2) as soon as I got mobbed, dropping off the stage, using UpB to snap to ledge, rolling from ledge, then using Counter ASAP
Its actually not THAT hard a challenge. Getting through Classic mode on 9.0 while losing no lives? Now that was a nightmare.
No changes for the rules this week. I've also posted all of the tournaments planned for January in the second post of the thread, so check them out and mark your calendars! Also, a reminder that all rules posted for upcoming tournaments are placeholders until the Tuesday prior to that tournament. So nothing is set in stone except for this Saturday, so feedback is always welcomed.
Double Elimination, with regular matches will be best of three 1v1 matches with three stocks. Winner, Loser, and Grand Finals will be best of five. If you have extra rules unlocked, the time should be eight minutes.
The results of Sudden Death are ignored, and the player with the lowest damage percentage when time expires is the winner.
Items, and equipment are banned; Custom Moves are allowed.
Players may switch characters/moves between matches. The winner of the previous match opts to change first (notify your opponent of whom) and then the loser may change their character in turn.
The following are starter stages picked at random when playing the first game of a set: 1. Battlefield, 2. Final Destination (or an identical Ω stage), 3. Duck Hunt, 4. Smashville, 5. Town and City, and 6. Lylat Cruise.
After a match, the winner may ban two stages. Then the loser picks the next stage, and which may be any of the starter stages or the following counterpick stages: Castle Siege, Delfino Plaza, Kongo Jungle, Pokemon Stadium 2, Mario Circuit (Wii U), Skyloft, Wuhu Island, and Halberd. The loser may NOT pick a stage they have previously won on in that set.
When a set is finished, report results on Challonge. If you wish, you can also report the scores of each match (how many KOs each player got), but this is optional. If a mistake is made, report it to me and it'll be fixed.
Sets should take thirty minutes to complete. If after five minutes your opponent has not shown up, please contact me and you will win the set by default.
Smasher's Agreement: a player make pick a stage not on this list if both players agree to it.
PLAY ORDER: Winner Bans Stages -> Loser Pick Stages -> Winner Announces Character -> Loser Announces Character -> Play Match

It's with Pit. Same strategy as Lucina: drop from the ledge, jump into the right-hand corner of the stage while doing your fair, upB back to the stage. Repeat. It's a bit tricky but having multiple jumps really helps, and the power of flight will return you to the stage from pretty far off.

Mega Man, baseball bat equipment, stats more or less the same.
Uses baseball bat to OHKO fighters.
Vs. Mii Fighting Team, spammed usmash, dtilt, and throws.
Vs. Master Hand / Core / Fortress, nothin' but Metal Blade. That attack does so much damage because of the multiple hits.
It helps that Mega Man is my main and the Mega Man AI is pretty dumb (making the mirror match easy) but yeah. Baseball Slugger Blue Bomber is what finally got me through it. Still took me like two dozen tries -- there are SO MANY WAYS the game can and will score cheap KOs. Just loves dropping hammers on top of your opponents, for example.
The mii fighters in Cruel Smash don't really like back throws off of any character, including Ganondorf
It helps for your dude to have some recovery
I got 9 KOs with mostly the same strategy as ChopperDave, only rolling form the ledge always got me murdered so I switched to Get Up Attacks. Much lower death rate.
I went ahead and added a "Main" and "Alts" column to the Smash Friends List and tried to fill it in as best as I could remember. I know people want to practice specific matchups, so that's might help you figure out who's playing who.
I just don't know if I can cut it online, really. I've grown up playing games more-or-less single player only. I lived on a farm in the middle of nowhere. Most of my friends weren't into games. I did get a small group late in high school and I was the god at Halo 3 and later Reach, but even then broadband wasn't (and honestly still isn't) a thing for our rural area. Online would've still reamed me. (I live in an area with okay-ish internet now.)
That and I completely skipped Brawl. I feel like whenever I'm up against someone better than me they've got close to a decade of experience on me.
tl;dr I'm whiny and want to be good at something that isn't that important.

Also, it may help to play more against the same person; I find that when I play only a few matches against someone, it's not really enough to learn anything because I don't get a chance to see what works and what doesn't.
I'm hoping to be online around noon PST on Saturdays and maybe really early Sundays, if you want to play some matches, @McFlynn. Also open to @Wyborn and whomever else.

This is me! And I don't have time to get better, but I still have fun.
I ended up waking up early, I have nothing important to do today, its zero degrees outside, my wife wont be home until seven, and the data cap for my gaming internet just reset for the month.
This is also me! I don't understand an awful lot of what's said in here, but I'm still having fun (currently entirely on my own as I haven't ventured in to the scary world of multiplayer).
I legitimately don't understand. Not the supply; it's the rabid demand I still don't get.
Hard-core fighting fans are VERY picky about their controllers.
It was to the point that fighting games tended to sell better on the PS3 than 360, when the reverse was true for most other games.
Not even hardcore. Fighting games without a proper controller are a really miserable feeling even for those of us who aren't really very hardcore. Trying to play a traditional Street Fighter-ish fighting game on a 360 pad hurts something deep inside my soul.

Where the fuck did the ground go?!
It took me way too long to beat All-Star mode for the first time because I would always get Captain Falcon's stage and get hit by a car or something.

I got my stats stolen and promptly took them back in two turns

Felt a lot more epic than it probably was.

Ok well there is not a lot of supply, which makes any demand rabider
It's that the Gamecube controller is fuckin' awesome. To the extent that for some people (like myself), it's not worth playing Smash without one.
If I didn't have an adapter being able to play 4-player would've cost me over 150 bucks
