Jumping back to the character overhaul discussion, I actually think the slight overhaul Ganondorf had from Melee to Brawl (and then fixed up to not be completely terrible in 4) helped a lot. He definitely feels closer to what Ganondorf should be like, but still not 100%. I don't think giving him a sword is what he needs, although that could be worked into his smash attacks. I think what he is really missing is a projectile of some sort, either a facsimile of "dead man's volley" from the games or just a purple energy ball that slightly tracks opponents or splits into multiple projectiles at the end of it's path.
The only other suggestion I would make is the change his running animation into a levitation, where he floats slightly off the ground, maybe with his arms crossed. Not only does his current animation make him look constipated, but floating would just thematically fit him better. They went back and redid Bowser's weird running animation, they could do it again here.
Make his Warlock Punch into a diving ground pound thing when used in the air, and give him the Black Hole attack for a chargeable projectile. I think that'd be sufficient.
Keep Flame Choke, though. If any move in all of Smash was perfect for Ganondorf, it's Flame Choke.

I would like a Ganon character to be added at some point.
Not that Gannondorf isn't cool.
But fucking Ganon.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
I actually came up with a full overhaul of B-moves for Ganondorf that I refrained from posting. To wit:
Neutral B: Dead Man's Volley. Like Gordos, powerful but reflects back toward Ganondorf when struck by any amount of damage. However, Ganondorf will reflect it back with any of his own attacks, too.
Side B: Trident of Power. Chargeable boomerang projectile. Has kill power heading out, a fixed knockback on the return.
Down B: Flaming Keese. Charge to extend the amount of time the gate stays open, emitting projectiles that fly toward the nearest enemy in a straight line.
Up B: Agahnim's Lightning. Ganondorf shoots several branching bolts of lightning below him, propelling himself upward. On the ground, he jumps up before firing the lightning and isn't blown upward.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

I find sorcery to be more important to Ganondorf's identity than swords.

Toon Ganondorf could use his dual katana if you want a sword wielding version. I feel like there are enough sword characters already, though, that we don't really need another.
I do enjoy large evil Japanese Warlord Ganondorf quite a bit.

I am making a joke because that taunt is basically a taunt to the person playing Gannondorf.

Anybody want to smash?

I'm definitely Scizor. I have the hit and run tactics (U-turn), excellent move priority (Bullet Punch) the offstage chasing (Pursuit), excellent defensive typing (Mega Man's surprising survivability), and my best kill move hits like a truck but leaves me vulnerable afterward (Superpower). Also, the whole soulless killing machine thing.
Kupi's Ridiculous Take On The Premise Of Making The Inkling Into A Smash Character:
Wherein a sketch of the behavior of the Inklings from Splatoon's abilities as a Smash character are described.
It is assumed that the Inklings are added to Smash 5, rather than as Smash 4 DLC, given the far-ranging implications of their unique mechanics.
Being teenagers, the Inklings have a light weight relative to the rest of the cast.
True to their source game, the base land and air mobility of the Inklings is low.
Unique Mechanic: Ink Tank - Nearly all of the Inkling's moves are ink shots powered by Ink from their Ink Tank (think Mega Man with his lemons and chargeable Buster smash attack). Attempting to use any move (including their A moves) without sufficient ink for the attack results in a pitiful empty pump sound instead of the intended ink shot attack. The Ink Tank refills over time, fast enough that the Inkling can fire jab and tilt shots effectively indefinitely, so long as they are very mildly spaced. Smash attacks, aerials, and specials are expected to be the predominate source of ink depletion.
Unique Mechanic: Ink Coverage - Likewise, nearly all of the Inkling's moves fire blobs of ink that fly on an arc. If they land on a surface, the ink blobs form a small puddle of ink, represented by a texture overlay. Ground so covered has reduced friction for all characters except the originating Inkling and their team members. The Inkling's crouch is to turn into a squid. Crouching on an ink-covered part of the ground causes the Inkling to submerge, allowing them to move quickly as a crawl action across ink-covered territory. The Inkling still has available hurtboxes while submerged. While submerged, the Inkling's Ink Tank refills faster.
Unique Mechanic: Splatting - The Inkling's attacks do very little damage on their own, generally causing a mere 1% damage per blob fired. Instead, Inkling attacks inflict a secondary kind of damage. Let's call it "Splat Damage". It is indicated by a texture overlay over the receiving character, similar to the way damage is displayed in Splatoon. When a character has 100 Splat Damage or more, they receive an attack equivalent to a weak, uncharged smash attack (let's say 15%), scaled to the amount of their Splat Damage, and their Splat Damage is reset to 0. So, if the last attack raised their Splat Damage to 150, the victim would receive a 22.5% damage attack, with appropriate knockback. A character's Splat Damage reduces over time, meaning the Inkling needs to hit enemies continuously to do their best damage.
The Inkling's specials are as follows. All specials except the Up-B consume a large amount of the Ink Tank.
Neutral B: Splat Bomb - The Inkling throws a triangular Splat Bomb, further if the button is held down. It causes something like 60-75 Splat Damage at the center of its explosion radius.
Forward B: Splat Charger - The Inkling draws a Splat Charger that can be aimed as it charges up, though it discharges immediately at full charge. Inflicts 100 Splat Damage at full charge.
Down B: Splat Roller - The Inkling draws a Splat Roller and does something with it depending whether they are in the air or on the ground. On the ground, the Inkling charges forward, laying down ink and causing 100 Splat Damage on hit. In the Air, the Inkling flicks ink that can cause 60-70 Splat Damage in total (though it is unlikely that it will all hit).
Up B: Super Jump - The Inkling turns into a squid and leaps into the air after a short charge time. The jump flies extremely high vertically, but the trajectory of the jump cannot be changed after launching.

With the advent of that rumor and the ridiculous Shovel Knight one (complete with a "render" taken from Smashified), I think there's an imminent character announcement. I'll quote a Venezuelan saying: "when the river sounds, it brings stones with it."
The buzz might be an elaborate way to hype to a new character reveal, but we don't know what it is. Or maybe I'm just overanalyzing.
i wouldn't expect anything until the poll concludes oct 10, and at that point some character(s?) revealed and announcement of the winner and saying they're be working on them
Given that this rumor refers to an iqdb entry (which people continually forget is a wiki and thus editable by anyone) and a twitter comment that reads like it could be facetious, I have no confidence.

Yeah, that one has a note from the voice actor, which I think gives it more plausibility than most other rumors. It could also be a Layton stage or assist trophy or something too though.
Honestly, he seems like the kind of character you'd save for Smash 5 to me.

That's so weird, because sarcasm is usually one of the easiest cues to pick up on the internet.
Even granting that there's some kind of thrilling action sequence in just about every Professor Layton game and that he's proven willing and capable of holding his own in a fight, I still feel as though the character screams "Assist Trophy".
Professor Layton appears on the field. He transitions through the three poses leading up to the reveal of whether you got the correct answer as a loud click... click... click emanates. And then... aha! Point! All nearby enemies of the summoner are blown away. Then Layton disappears, leaving behind as many cups of tea as there are players. Will you take them all, or will you be a gentleman and let everyone have one?

Ideally the obvious answer would be to make the players play or solve a puzzle when he appears. But there's next to no practical way to pull that off...
Maybe pull a Nintendogs and have a sliding block puzzle obscure the screen for a bit.

Would actually be a good choice, though I don't think he's technically first party?
