Help with Smell from sink drain.

JantasticJantastic Registered User new member
I live in a condo and my plumbing is connected to others which live in same building. My new neighbor must use something that I am allergic to. It smells like body wash or perfume. The smell comes up from the bathroom overflow sink. How can I get rid of it? Have put vinegar with baking soda down drain with hot water followed after but still the smell is there. I am so sensitive to fragrances that this makes my life almost unbearable. Please help.

Was this sink properly trapped? That could be the issue.

Sure its coming up through the drain?

do you see water in the drain (the water should be there to stop shit coming back up, figuratively not literally)

Yeah, it's probably someone in a hurry didn't put a trap on your sink... look under your sink. There should be a thing that looks like this or this

It's also possible to have the trap but not have it set up to sufficiently block odors, so just having it there doesn't guarantee it's correct.

What is this I don't even.
