HA, I just checked the tracking info for the used x52 hotas I bought from an Amazon supplier. It shipped from a town that's a 10 min drive from me. It'll be here tomorrow instead of Amazon's initial estimate of the 9th.
Too bad it's a holiday or I'd have my hands on it right now. If there was any way to have known where it was coming from, I would have just emailed the reseller and offered to come pick it up. At least I'll get it a week earlier than expected.

If you lose stuff due to all the server fuckups submit a ticket to support. They were good about fixing that sort of stuff during the beta.

Finally get a mission to enhance my standing in the Empire: They need 4 combat stabilizers. The BPC tool says the nearest station that has them...is 76 light years away, with my Viper unable to plan a route there.
I'm having trouble getting the map to plan routes longer than 100 LY. Is there a work-around for that? It just takes the map a looooong time to add routes that far out.
I've spent several hours smashing Ho Hsi fighters in the combats zones, and returned to the Federal station to turn in my missions and bounties. You'd think they'd be appreciative, but some Federation clerk makes a typo, and now they're unfriendly and won't give me any more missions. Oops. Really unhelpful bug.
Maybe Ho Hsi Corp has actually competent data-entry clerks? Maybe if I go splash some Federal Navy fighters, they'd figure out how to properly pay me? Seriously thinking of turning my coat.
How does the BPC thinger currently work? I gather that Frontier frowned on all the auto updating and data scraping it used to do?
They just opposed the data scraping. However manually entering the data or acquiring it from OCR analysis of screenshots seems fine. I've heard some rumblings about potentially introducing an API so that we can access information like commodity data from the ports we visit, but that was just rumors that I've heard. I haven't taken the time to try to find a source to substantiate it.

The current route planner is not appropriate for plotting 100+ LY routes. My recommendation is to pick a handful of waypoint stars every ~50 LY along your route. If you plan to repeatedly make the trek as part of a trade route, then write down the names of each waypoint.
The route planner is expected to be optimized eventually. This is one of the problems for launching a game near the holidays. Most of the dev team is on vacation. I can't really complain about that. They've earned it. It is just the way things are.

The same thing happened to me. I thought I was doing something wrong but you're right - it seems more like a bug.
So, making the financial leap up from adder/hauler to something bigger is proving to be a bit rough. Are there worthwhile routes to run with a modest small cargo boat? My range is around 21 empty / 16 full I think, with a 18 ton hold.

Steiner Station in Ho Hsi requires Pallidium and Silver. I've been getting them at Balatu (closest station can't remember the name. Is a hexideximaxiwhatever station though) which is selling both for about 25% lower than the galactic average.
Pallidium is a thousand credits per ton last I checked which isn't bad.

How far of a jump is it from Ho Hsi to Balatu?

Short?
I can make it in one jump and my max range with a full hold is 9. something something lightyears.

I've been grabbing missions too.
Raised my rank in the federation up to midshipman.
PSA: there's cargo disappearing and money duplicating happening all over the place right now. The official forums are reporting it but there's no official word yet.
I can't speak for certain but if catastrophic damage happens, a rollback might be likely so I wouldn't play too much right now if you don't want to suffer a heartbreak.
I've lost several loads of commodities on the same route due to transaction servers glitching so I opened a ticket and I'm done for the day.

Yeah I just lost all of my cargo and money.
I had just purchased a bunch of upgrades and those went away.
I mean it was only about 30k credits, which is small beans. But when you have nothing it kind of feels like a lot. I'll just not play today
And here I was feeling kinda sorta guilty because I'd bought this game Monday but hadn't really played any at all yet. Waiting on an x55 hotas to arrive before I really jump in with both feet.
Playing with an xbox controller doesn't really appeal to me, even though I did the tutorials with it just fine.
Sorry to hear the server is causing problems for you guys and all other players today. This is the biggest downside to having the universe simulation done by Frontier managed 'cloud' servers, even for solo players. Upside is that it gives them a level of control to curate player experience and do more heavy simulations without forcing the player to have a comp setup able to handle that.
On the bright side, the game being unplayable for a day has motivated me to fix my x52 drivers (clutch mode is the bane of my existence) and get Voice Attack set up.
There was a steam sig here. It's gone now.

Man seeing so many people with these problems.
And it's been all week too. So now I don't know that playing tomorrow everything will be fine.
I'm fine with working to get up the ladder but if you keep getting knocked back down, for the amount of time you can spend with this game, it doesn't seem worth it.
So right now I'm still in my starting Sidewinder, I'm just about able to afford a hauler. So basically not that progressed. What are the chances that you will at some point be able to change your Commander name or give credits to other players (so they can give them back after you reset your save)? I picked a dumb name I don't like and want to change it, and thinking I'm roughly at the now-or-never point unless they'll be patching either of those things in.

I've seen Chris Roberts and Jayne Cobb.
He was wanted.

People enter data manually and it's shared online.
And by manually I mean they take screenshots and run it through an OCR.
They have about an hour to fix it before my playtime opens up. Or I'll be sad.
I would be very surprised indeed if Amazon didn't have 24/7 support for one of their server farms.
It seems more stable now.
This is really cool and I hope he sticks with it.

Spend your credits on some cargo, you can then jettison (abandon) that cargo and have another person scoop it up and it won't flag as stolen.
You then wipe your save, then find your friend and they do the same jettisoning to give you that cargo back which you then sell.
