The pirates also killed three of the runners.

2 RPGs at the end of the marathon is a real bummer. 7 of the last 8 hours.

thankfully SMRPG is about 100x more entertaining to watch than any final fantasy game

As long as there is good chemistry and energy on the couch, as was in the case for ff6 and right now for smprg, I don't mind it all. It's nice to leave on and chill.

These SMRPG super jumps are the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.

the jump timing is also variable with the enemy sprite movement, which makes it even more insane

i think the shark guy is static, but I think later in the run he has to do it on an enemy that moves

I voted save because I think they were killed last time, alas no alive animals today
They were saved at agdq, where one runner was nearly on world record pace
They were killed at AGDQ 2016. First place was on pace for WR but fucked up the trick with the big Metroid that cost him.

I was thinking about this a couple days ago before I knew they'd add the run in as an incentive, but:

Is Super Mario 64 not the perfect speedrun game?

It has the perfect blend of everything that makes speedruns great. It's a popular and beloved game, so there's a big community to run and watch it, which has pushed it to being constantly optimized. It's very fast and movement-based in a lot of its tricks, so it requires constant displays of skill and for the viewer, not only is the excitement level always high, but the skill on display is also very obvious. Even the glitches mostly require skill, like cannonless or bomb clips or the door/stairs clips, and again it's obvious to the viewer that they actually require super precise inputs. And the game has systems built into it that make doing different categories, like 0-star, 16-star, 70 star &c., actually legitimately gated by the game itself as opposed to being entirely arbitrary.

i think it's one of the best technical speedruns out there for sure, but we're seeing that there's more to speedrunning than just tech lately

Also that SM64 run from the winner was amazing. All four had great runs but that time was crazy.

Back in my day we had to play video games ourselves and couldn't watch Naruto and Pikachu's search for car keys on twitch.

I've added all the official uploads of Good Runs to the OP. Please note that Saturday's runs have yet to be uploaded (they're probably busy breaking down the setups). Let me know if links go to the wrong run or if YouTube has muted a video because of stupid auto-detection. Twitch VODs aren't great, but at least they'll have audio.

JKA was done by our boy Covert Muffin, and apparently Twitch staff selected that run as their run of the week. He's streaming right now just talking about how humbling the experience was, he's a really nice, genuine guy.

I forgot that sonic 06 happened, I should watch that while I eat dinner

i think my favorite run of the week was dk64, despite smrpg being my all time favorite game that was one that I was largely familiar with

dk was me constantly going "what the fuck?"
