I've managed to keep armoring/mining at the same level as my combat class as I go.
I think I've spent the vast majority of the time, easily, leveling up the crafting. I'm getting the impression they really didn't balance it to be done until you hit 50 on at least one disciple of war. Either that or they thought a level 35 really had a need for three hundred suits of steel armor.

Leves. Grinding out levels by crafting en masse is just soul (and shard) shattering.
Oh and the higher up you go in crafting, the less you worry about the type/quantity materials used or the 'difficulty'. It's just the shards that matter.
About Level 50 crafting, I cheesed my way to 50 carpenter just by handing in the GC daily quest, finished my class quests and bought a couple of il55 stuff off the market. I still have to finish my 45-50 list of items to make but besides that is my next "step" to get the Master book from the guy in Mor Dhona. Something about me giving him some HQ lumber for a carpenter book...
Also is the augmentation armor untradable? Meaning if I want a golden DRG I have to level Alchemist to fity and make it myself? Cause that's something I am way more interested in than mastering Carpentry.

Nope, the augment items are tradable. The armour isn't but yeah...
If you want, look up the materials list and ask a FC crafter to make them. They're an 'easy' craft because you don't need to HQ them.

Additional rewards have been added to the following Ixal daily quests:
West for Fishing / Your Gil's No Good Here / Mining for Compliments / A High Wind in Ishgard / Bring Your Own Ectoplasm / In Case of Emergency / We Fly High (Squawkin') / Deliverance
(These are the highest level quests, the last Coerthas tier)

I've been doing Garuda and Mog HM on my paladin to get some BSM desynth fodder lately. I've had several Garuda where at least 2 people were new, and we had to do the fight legit instead of just burning through everything. Was kind of refreshing.
Not in the game itself. However there are third party applications people use to parse the numbers. Yoshi P did mention they are adding a "training" room of sorts which players may be able to use to get numbers of the like in game, and with the addition of add-ons in the future at some point we may see something as well.
Until then it's kind of like fight club in that you don't talk about it in game because it's technically a bannable offense, and SE doesn't really talk about it unless someone is using it to berate other players ("Your DPS sucks! I'm parsing you and you are doing horribly". Stuff like that will get you banned pretty quick if people report you. But just using it to gauge yourself seems to be fairly safe.

As I experienced a case of "your dps sucks and I'm kicking you" in WoW, I would very much like FFXIV to never have anything like that.
Seeing how the post-game dungeons have item level caps, I'd like to think that you're more than capable as long as you fulfill that requirement. Anyone who gets uppity if you're dealing 119 damage instead of 120 is the kind of asshole that would gladly shame you with a parser, which is why I want nothing of the sort in this game.

Well, there's a difference between "you're not doing Tier X average dps with Tier-5 gear, you suck lol noob kick" and the situation where one dps is doing X dps, the tank and healer are doing 0.5X, and the other dps is doing 0.25X because they're just autoattacking while watching porn. The latter scenario is a bit more problematic and yeah, that person probably should get kicked if they're wasting everyone else's time.

Your gear often has no bearing on your damage capability. You can have awesome gear and still have no real clue how to play your class, or even just dial it in on a dungeon and not do anything but hit the same button over and over. Your gear does not mean you are capable in any degree. (this is less true for gear obtained via specific fights as opposed to being bought with tokens)
It's also pretty easy without a parser to tell when someone is not playing well or doesn't understand their class/the fight. The parser just makes it easier at a glance to tell who isn't "pulling their weight".
That all being said I think an in game parser that only tracks your own numbers would be very useful, but one that tracks everyone in your party by default would be a bad idea and just give players an excuse to belittle others. The only reason it's not a rampant problem right now is because parsers are technically against the ToS so players try not to avoid talking about how they are using them.

Speaking of which, I've been curious if I've been making proper use of the Vengeance WAR ability.
By my interpretation, it's the strongest defensive buff a WAR can give himself, which is why I tend to save it for when a boss is entering his "I'm just going to mercilessly stomp you until you stop moving" phase.
I typically begin the fight with Featherfoot, bust out Foresight shortly after, then save Vengeance as the third buff (which is usually around the time the boss starts ramping up the attacks).
I think vengeance is also good for additional threat/damage against swarms since it can proc on each hit from them.
edit: Wait hold-on, wiki says it just reduces incoming damage. Isn't there one that hits enemies that hit you? I thought that was vengeance.
So after not playing my first months subscription from the collectors edition that I purchased after I finish the beta, I have finally started playing Final Fantasy XIV. It's nice that my beta character was carried over so I don't have start from scratch. Is ghost in a linkshell still around?
Thought I saw someone named loki with GHOST running around just now.

Yup that's us, we're still alive and very much kicking. Just find any GHOST member examine them and select the Free company and submit an application. (Include PA in the app) and we'll get you in as soon as we can.
The servers are coming down in about 1 hour and 40 mins though and will be down for 12 hours, so if we miss you in the next couple hours we'll get you when the servers come back up!

GHOST is, I think, the biggest FC on our server and one of the most active ones in the game. It's kind of a crazy paradigm shift from the usual PA game presence in MMOs, but I would think part of that is because the door is open to everyone and part of it is because this game is so much better then a lot of MMOs have been lately. We do a lot of events like Rie's fashion show, and have a big house and a big presence, and it shows in the regular apps we get from people.
You can't swing a dead Lalafell in a city state without hitting a GHOST member.
I sometimes wonder how things would've gone if I'd gone with GHOST instead of some old friends of mine and did the tank partner thing with Sion that we did in TOR.
We made a pretty good team.

I'm so close to that Omnilex that I can almost taste it.
Tastes like parchment.

I have a character that I'd like to continue using, but was hoping to rename, is that possible?
Also, is there a way to migrate to another server?
I meant the boxes cause this site says they're untradable. But anyway, if they are and someone in the FC can make them for me (Provided I give them what I can assume loadsa gil for the one full set) It'd be most appreciated.

So save your Ixali turn-ins for tomorrow!
Yes, and yes.
Infinity Mog 21 and over Free Company Sargatanas Server. Recruitment currently closed.
They most certainly are tradable...
Anyhow.
Finally, I get to do the long grind!
Yes I know they're increasing light gains in the 2.5 patch. I just wanted to get this done before then. Personal pride and all
The bad news: As a Scholar. (the other Scholar is second in damage)
The good news: 100 Soldiery bonus!
The bad news: Bonus was from all four DPS and one of the tanks.
The best news: Nobody was a douche about it!
I suppose I'll put in that I scored 2nd on DPS in ST a few days ago.
On my WHM >.>
If you want to save a bit of cash, make a character with the same name on your destination server.
Wait wait.
There are dps meters?

There are and I think they are called parsers(?)
I believe Square doesn't like them and could get you a temp ban if you use it as an excuse to boast or kick people from a group.
All I know is I am glad the actual game doesn't have a dps meter of sorts.
