I have the Fruity Loops demo. Now what?

Recently I've been getting interested in loop/beat programs. So I decided to try the FL demo... (as Murs said, "Yes, 9th does really make these beats on Fruity Loops.") And I'm stuck!

I'm guessing that FL is a very capable program. The problem is that I want to learn from square one, and the program assumes you already know what you're doing mostly, only offering in-program tutorials for advanced features such as the vocoder. Which is neat, but I'd like to know how to make a basic loop first....

Am I in too deep? Is there a lighter program than FL that I should try out? Are there total beginner FL tutorials out there, or is it assumed that once you're ready for FL you already have some experience under your belt? I'm not looking to do anything fancy - a decent set of samples and drums would make me happy, as long as I can arrange them how I see fit.

If you're using the demo, you can't save anything you do, which is why when I started to get into it... I started getting right out of it.

Google tutorials, super easy program to use.

If you're use to rack units, and mixers and synths and stuff, might want to Reason out. It allows you to actually manually tweak "hardware", like you were dealing with the real thing.

    Reason is super complicated, though.

There's some big ass fruity loops bible. It's like 350 pages. I got a lotta friends who make beats with it. For the rapping. I've played with it a few times. Go get a book or something.

FL is pretty damned low-end. If you can't figure it out, then I'd suggest trying the tutorials route, and if you can't get going with that, you're going to have a hard time with pretty much any software.

i mean my progression was old tracker programs back in the day -> acid pro -> rebirth ->reason ->cubase
but learning new software isn't usually a problem, i'm not sure what version it's in now i think they were bought out as well but i'd give acid a shot. the fruity loops interface when i tried it was pretty annoying and while acid is a lot less versatile it's pretty easy to get a handle on. i'd record loops off my old casio keyboard and sync it up with some cut up beats and you can get some cool stuff going.
    good luck
