I think blizzard is planning on releasing the wc3 units for the sc2 engine, the whole units, not just the skin
Rad. I really want to play a proper WC3 remake, it's impossible to go back to vanilla with the dated ass graphics.
i've been following this and it actually was released last week to the SC2 ptr. haven't messed around with it myself, but here's the original announcement:
armies of azeroth is the most recent attempt at recreating WC3, as there have been other tries and some attempting to make a WoW rts as opposed to WC3 or "WC4"
edit: just went back and saw someone already mentioned armies of azeroth. to answer the subsequent question no they haven't stated any kind of release date and based on how they are doing things i don't think the release of these assets will help. they seem to be using the muradin model from HotS for the mountain king. haven't checked him out or any of the other human units on the ptr (that's where AoA is starting) but i dont know how many models they were planning to build or whether they can simply just drop all the new stuff into their build.
honestly i don't mind the graphics of WC3 at all, what bothers me is the lack of integration with the current battle.net plus i would hope that there would be more bot/hack detection on the more modern configuration and with more attention maybe new maps and some balance tweaking.
So I just checked, there were 12 years between the release of Starcraft 1 and Starcraft 2 (1998, 2010). Warcraft 3 came out in 2002 so this year will mark 13 years since that was released. I can't believe it's been that damn long.
I had a game where we had a bot on my team. Not a blizzard bot, but like one of those WoW battleground bots who would take a step every 3 minutes to avoid being booted for afk. It was horrible.
But then your entire team reported him and he'll be gone in a few days?
Also the constant gold gain rate complaining continues to baffle me. Keeping dailies cleared has given me a very similar (if not faster) hero acquisition rate than I had in LoL (though I spent more cash money there that I regret).
I just made a post this weekend linking to the numbers and how hots is several times worse than League of Legends.
If it baffles you then it is because you are literally not doing the math.
I literally am not doing the math.
I am playing enough to clear dailies during the week, playing with friends on the weekend sometimes, and I have 10 heroes to choose from while doing it.
Murky can really push a lane with the right talents. Pufferfish with talents can do over 1,000 damage and slime is a steady stream of damage.
I wouldn't build that way, but it's not like splitpush Muradin or something.
That's true, mid-to-late game Murky can wreck a minion wave more easily than almost anyone else. But you get that almost by default, so you should never really spec into it.
Murky's really good at fighting heroes, though. Once you get the bubble-heal, you can kill many heroes without even having to respawn from your egg. Slime+slime pufferfish+actual pufferfish damage is really strong as the game goes on. The short cooldown on Octograb enables your teammates to get an extra kill pretty frequently, and if the map objectives force long teamfights in one location, March of the Murlocs sometimes kills or enables large chains of kills.
Murky isn't really a suicide fighter anymore, which is probably a mistake many new Murky players make.
But most importantly, he's fun, and that's why I like him
I had a guy revenge pick murky in hero league after he disapproved of someone picking nova. He said he was double downing on us having the worst possible comp. 2 of the other players started spamming incessantly the moment the match started. I wound up muting 3/4 of them.
We actually won the match though. Murky performed admirably. There wasn't a ton of coordination obviously, but we kept the levels, kills, and lanes respectable, and ultimately I soloed the core with a very late game garden terror for the win.
I hate myself for it, but my little group now drops out of hero league games if the first pick person chooses someone like Nova or Jaina. It's not even that they are so bad, it's just the type of person whose first picking those above everything else has, every time, proven to be a complete dick in the game. No teamwork, no inclination to play as a team and no consideration for anyone else.
if you are first picking in a random group, and the rest of the group is (nicely!) asking you to pick a tank or something else and you respond with FU I play what I like don't be surprised when a lot of people quit the match.
Those are probably 2 of the most straight forward characters to counter-pick, so it seems pretty reasonable to me, since there basically choosing to ignore the format
eh, I don't back out of matches. ever. (unless there's a formal surrender option)
I was with a Destiny pa group that disconnected from a losing match with no warning and it flustered me enough to immediately part ways with that group.
So I'm in a quandary now, trying to find out what heroes to buy. I've roughly 17k built up, and I own Malfurion, Raynor, Muradin, (bundle) and Valla, Zagara, and Arthas. The characters I'm looking at are Brightwing, who is tons of fun to play, Tyrael, who I am probably best with, Rehgar, who is also tons of fun to play and pretty awesome once you realize his mount is his damage ability, Uther, who is just a badass support, and maybe Lili.
I'm closing in on level 30, so I'm trying to choose with respect to hero league, and in particular with playing either tanks or support; those are the roles I enjoy the most. Anyone have any advice and/or suggestions for other heroes I should try, given the ones I like? There's also considerations of trying to get up to 10 heroes so I can actually play hero league, with maybe 20-22k gold.
Generalísimo de Fuerzas Armadas de la República Argentina
Muradin and Arthas are both very strong warriors and great picks in Heroes league.
Raynor and Valla are both very good Assassins. Some might argue Raynor is only mid tier, but he is still solid.
Zagara is a great specialist and Malf is a good support.
If you're looking to bolster your roster for ranked, I'd so go Brightwing or Uther to give yourself another strong support. Rehgar is good, but I have a harder time supporting pugs with him. Zeratul is picked often so having Tassadar as a counter pick is always good.
Nazeebo is god tier right now, so he would make a good addition as a second specialist.
Tyrael rounds out the top 3 warriors with Stitches and Arthas (Stitches is probably the best hero in the game in moment and first picked 90% of the time - seriously, even if you are picking him so the other team can't, he's just too strong to pass on most of the time). But since you have Arthas and Muradin, you might not need another warrior right now.
If you want to be able to compliment other peoples picks, good duo comps are Arthas + Kerrigan or Tychus + Valla.
All told, though, play who you like and are good with. I can't stress that enough.

Yeah, fair warning to anyone playing with me: I do not want to be in a party with people who will back out of games because of the first person's pick. And I may first-pick Jaina. If that will really bother you, we should probably not Hero League together.
I hate that the pick order is randomized. I wish there was a way for teams to prearrange the pick order, so that your essential characters or most-likely to be stolen characters are higher on the list.
I had a Hero League game yesterday where our player in position 5 wanted Pudge. He got told no by the guy in position 2, with good reason. Pudge will never make it to the 5th guy in a draft pick. It's pointless for player 5 to even think of picking him.
And that's stupid.
If your tank player is in position 5, they need to either add hero trades within a team, or add the ability for a team to arrange the pick order. You don't want your tank player in position 5 unless you're willing to sacrifice Pudge, Tyrael, and Arthas.

yeah I just had a match where a guy lost his shit in hero select because we didn't first pick stitches.
we completely rolled the enemy team with tyrael (me), valla, uther, thrall, and hammer. I out played stitches the entire game.
guy who flipped out apologized to valla (who didn't pick stitches) at the end of the match for being a dick, but she'd actually already dropped and became an AI for the last 5 minutes or so.

Backing out is different to leaving though. There's only been one match where I've wanted to properly back out, and we sat in the base as they annihilated us. But leaving a match where someone first picks Jaina, sonya, azmo, Nova etc. without even saying in the party chat "Mind if I pick XXX, I'm decent at them" is just dumb and not fair to your party (and doesn't exactly cast you in a good light if you can't even talk to your team mates. We had one game where we ran our Abathur + Illidan combo, and one guy begged us not to play it in the party chat but we explained it was a deliberate choice we had been practising with and he was cool. Went on to utterly annihilate the enemy team who couldn't cope with the magic hat at all.
But that worked because we explained - when people people without saying anything, that just sucks. Its bad enough losing in these games because of your team mates, but when they are deliberately first picking terrible characters and not even saying anything in the party chat, it's just not worth the effort of suffering through the match. If you *have* to first pick someone like nova, etc then at least explain to your team mates!

Yeah, totally random at that point. Weirdly enough I actually prefer being last pick because I can then just fill in the holes we need - I have enough heroes that I can generally get *someone* semi-useful in the game.
Often Lili because most people hate her and think she's dreadful, whereas to date I haven't lost a match with her!

EDIT: nvm - I'm too tired for gud reeding compreehenshun.
I was more talking about solo queue, when it's completely out of your control.
Being a Nazeebo player, I get screwed a lot. I feel like I get position 4 or 5 more often than not, and I very rarely get the character I want.
Being that Tychus + Valla is a common two-pick for a team, if the enemy team gets them, I try to pick Nazeebo (if there is still room for him on our team). He counters them so very well. Vengeful Spirit zones squishy assassins with ease, and zombie wall can force them to use their jukes non-defensively.

Plus they're both squishy enough that harassment with spider jars will actually do competent damage to them if they don't try to avoid it.

I agree, the fixed order thing is silly. I'd really like the ability to trade heroes before the game and after the draft, but that's a bit complicated with who-owns-what.

Does LoL allow you to trade for a champion you don't own or does it gray that hero out for you as not tradable? I can't remember.

It does not. After picking a hero, and the opportunity to trade comes up, the button to trade it with someone will only come up for people who actually own it.

Same with Smite. So that's probably the best solution here too.
I think people take the metagame best picks far too seriously in pub Hero League. The most important thing is that everyone picks a hero they're good at and you end up with a good balance of roles at the end (which is the advantage over Quick Match). Forcing someone to pick Stitches because they're first is stupid if they're not going to perform well as Stitches - you simply can't expect a random assortment of pub players to expertly play all the top tier characters.

This is true to an extent. I do think the meta game lends favorably to solo queues more so than premades.
I was in a premade that had Pudge, Nazeebo, Uther, Tassadar, and Tyrande. We were against Muradin, Gazlowe, Tychus, Valla, and Thrall. Despite their lack of support, I would have assumed (on paper) they greatly had the upper hand. But because we were a premade coordinating over voice chat, we trounced them.
I would not have expected the same outcome if I solo queued into that comp. Not at all.

Yeah but you can't rationalize with those kinds of people. Ranked play brings out all kinds of assholes because they attach their rating to their self worth.
The issue isn't necessarily forcing the top guy to pick Stitches, as it is the problem that the last guy generally doesn't get who he wants, no matter what role it is.
The problem is that in solo queue, if you have a player who wants to play a tank, and he gets randomly assigned into position 5, he's pretty much SOL at all of the good picks. Not just one or two. By the time the game rotates to him, he's not going to be able to pick the hero he wants to play.
If JohnnyAwesome is the best Tyrael player in the whole world, and he gets position 5, his skill with Tyrael might as well not even exist, because the likelihood that Tyrael is still available by the time he gets to choose is practically nil.

If you really only want to play one role or character and one only, I would argue it might be best to stick to quick match. That's why Blizzard does it that way so people can always play whoever they want.
Coming into ranked with that mentality is going to bone you. I'm not saying if you want to play a warrior you HAVE to only play Pudge or Arthas, but you should be prepared to play any role.
I'm not even sure hero swapping would alleviate the issue. If you only want to play Tyrael, ever, what happens when one or two other people on your team want to play him, or only want to play warrior? You don't need three, and sometimes more than only one is overkill.

After picking a hero, and the opportunity to trade comes up, the button to trade it with someone will only come up for people who actually own it.

also bans (eventually I guess when there are more heroes)
Same with Smite. So that's probably the best solution here too.

Everyone, queue dodge when you see the name "kime" on your team.
