PAX South Panel Announced : Pinny Arcade Pin Trading 101
Hello, fellow pin pals!
I am very excited to share with you this news! It's going up this week on the official schedule for PAX South 2015, but I couldn't wait to let you guys know!
At 4:00 PM, Friday, be in line at the Bobcat Theater for the first Pinny Arcade panel, Pinny Arcade Pin Trading 101!
Your hosts will be myself,
@Diffusion,
@PedroAsani and
@SerpicoBC. We will cover a variety of topics, including How to enter the hobby, The financial value of pins, and others, plus a Q&A followed by a small giveaway of pintastic prizes!
As the panel gets more ready, we'll share some more details on this thread. We're very happy to be able to host such an event at PAX. I hope most pin hunters from the forum will meet with us there and share what is likely to be the first in many community gatherings on the official schedule, outside of the staff Pin Trading event.
Until then, stay safe, and may the pre-PAX jitters not be too cruel on you all.

I could stream from my phone if people want to see it live. All depending on data connection.
Pinny Pal since PAX Prime 2013
I'm sure someone will record, if not it probably wouldn't be too hard to find someone with a decent camera.

I might be enforcing during this panel.
Gosh darn it.
Of course not :P even if only 50 people show up, among them a few who want to start the hobby but don't know how, it's worth doing it!

Always looking to trade.
Also, Bobcat is not a streaming theater, so PAX will not be recording it unfortunately. Yall will have to arrange that if you want to have it for those who can't make it.
Can confirm word has spread to me

The one place is this subforum.
Was the ND pin announced on the front page before it went on sale on the ND site? Was it announced on PA at all? :P
Also if you guys can't get a camera/phone set up on a tripod, please see if you can get a decent audio recording of it.

I can borrow a friend's portable recorder if necessary to bring with me (it works surprisingly well, hopefully good enough to place on a table), assuming a camera can't happen. Let me know.

That's the point. If your not staff you have no idea. Then again I'm not claiming to advise people on where all this information can be found. It's a farce.

The point is to inform people new to the hobby where they can learn about new pins releases. If you only rely on one source of information, you will miss some data. The obvious answer is to look at the forums, Twitter, news posts on PA, and sometimes pinnyarcade.com - but all that might not be as obvious to someone not familiar with the forums (which, by the way, is a LOT of people).
So, if you believe it is a farce to expose the actual sources of informations on pins, you're welcome to attend any other event or panel during the same time frame. We'll really try to make this interesting for both new hobbyists and hardcore collectors, but we obviously can't satisfy everyone's thirst for information the same way.
Even if you ARE staff they don't really have a 100% idea sometimes. That being said as Fish said other then the front page it is usually watched closely by people on the forums. Information on New release doesn't necessarily mean you have inside info, it can very easily mean the forums, where the pins are usually found pretty quickly, even when PA doesn't announce them.
That's just un-needed negativity saying that when they discuss this they will be bullshitting the answer.

They aren't talking about the value at PAX. Do you not see pins being sold on Ebay? On ThePinTrader site, which by the way is one of the panelist. Seriously, if you don't like the idea of the panel, great. The vast majority I bet think it's a great idea. There is no need to try and pick apart the idea when it has nothing to do with you.
Every time a PAX comes around it seems like you like to come and stir up trouble in some way or another Jake. Debating an idea is one thing, bashing it because you don't like it is something completely different. -.-
(Sorry I'll end my rant...but it just bugs the living hell out of me)
On a more humorous note, I will not hand out business cards to everyone, as I don't have nearly enough printed, and don't want to get more But seriously, I don't want to fly to Texas with a huge crate of flyers or something like that, haha!
Your right. It bugs meet that at my first PAX I had one of you cut in front of me, and my friend at merch line, and it was deemed ok because he brought food. And I had the misfortune of running into YOU as you were getting your 3rd Leeroy pin pushing me, and other people out of the way. I'm sorry I'm so negative with my logic.

You aren't even worth discussing this with Jake.
@Shadowscars22 How long is the panel? An hour?

I'd really be interested in a community discussion about the demand for different pins and how we weight different values such as design, subject matter, and fan base when calculating popularity and to some extent monetary value.
I'd also be interested in a discussion about the future of collecting, and how we predict (or already observe) people focusing the scopes of their own collections.
It's already been discussed to death why print run numbers are so important for the collecting community, but it's definately worth rehashing it at the panel for the benefit of anyone new to collecting. Looking forward to the panel!
