Venture Bros: RADIANT IS THE BLOOD OF THE BABOON HEART

There will be a series finale releasing July 21st!

Here are some character bios to fill out the rest of the OP. THERE ARE SPOILERS SO WATCH THE DANG SHOW FIRST. The first season is kind of a bunch of disconnected stuff, but eventually there is a continuity of sorts that starts building. Keep in mind that the show doesn’t really have a plan in mind, and the continuity operates more like real life...only more fantastical. You have a routine, then things happen that change the status quo and you run with that for a season or two until the next major event for the characters. So, if you are expecting a tight arc with twists and a grand finale...then look elsewhere. The writers scripted each season by the seat of their pants with no real ending in mind. Thus, the infamous seasonal hiatuses where they looked at the plot that’s built up and craft a new season out of it. It really does work though.

Thaddeus "Rusty" Venture
A former boy adventurer and (self-proclaimed) doctor, Rusty is the son of the famous late scientist Dr. Jonas Venture. This gave him a very interesting childhood that resulted in a popular children's show and many, many problems for Rusty when growing up. He has grown into a very neurotic, self-centered person, although he does care about his family in his own weird way. He maintains employment by clinging to his father's coattails and selling old science junk to the military, and he does know something about science, although it has a tendency to backfire on him. Is arched by the Monarch, although he is extremely weary of the stupid hero/villain game.

I4TIDls.jpg?1
Brock "Fucking" Samson
An agent of OSI that was assigned as a bodyguard to the Venture family. In reality, this job was a cover for him to protect the ORB, a mysterious artifact of purportedly terrible power. Oh, but everyone recently discovered turns out the thing had been broken years ago. Since then he's had a rough go of things, having fallen out with OSI and joining a new SPHINX team in order to fight villains that don't play by the rules. However he's back with OSI after a complicated series of events. Extremely good at what he does, and is respected by both his friends and enemies. Likes Led Zeppelin.

0vxxqB7.png
Hank Venture
First of the titular "Venture Bros.", Hank is the more outgoing of the twins. He fully embraces the boy adventurer life, and buys into the whole ridiculous mess full-tilt. He's actually surprisingly competent when he needs to be, if only thanks to years of experience with supervillains. However, he's not that competent, as Hank has died multiple times and only come back to life thanks to clones his father and grandfather has prepared. Recent events have destroyed these clones, and Hank's been allowed to grow up a bit. The more rebellious of the two, although he's getting over it.

HYoUJf1.png?1
Dean Venture
The other Venture Brother, Dean is more like his father only without the whole "asshole" thing. And probably smarter. He's scientifically-minded, easily scared, and more timid. However, at least early on, Dean was just as into adventures as Hank, although he's become increasingly exhausted by it. Like Hank, he had clones as back-up, and he was the first to learn about the whole cloning thing. Coupled with some romance troubles, this sent Dean into a deep funk that he's been slowly climbing out of. Similar to Hank, he's been butting heads with his dad recently, but in a more moody sort of way.

JhWbm7P.jpg?1
"The Mighty" Monarch
Venture's arch nemesis (although nobody knows why), the Monarch was the children of incredibly wealthy parents who died when he was young. This has left him with a sizeable trust fund that allows him to spend his days coming with ways to kill Dr. Venture while flying in a giant, mechanized cocoon. Has a flare for the dramatic, and is perhaps more interested in the theatrics of villainy than having any sort of master plan besides fucking with Venture. Is married, somehow, to Dr. Mrs. The Monarch. Despite being every bit as incompetent as his nemesis, the Monarch has managed to somehow outwit many of his enemies, most notably being Phantom Limb.

gJDBHbe.jpg?1
Dr. Mrs. The Monarch
AKA Dr. Girlfriend. A villainess who initially tried a standalone gig only to eventually find her calling as a number two for various villains. She's actually a rather talented scientist, and quite clever. In fact, her competence has landed her a spot on the guild's Council of 13. For whatever reason, she is happily married to the Monarch and now his equal in their criminal outfit. She's far more sensible, and questions some of the Monarch's more...eccentric tendency like spending obscene amounts of money on a "butterglider." Despite being married to him, she also has no idea why the Monarch hates Venture.

F0823kx.jpg
Gary "Two-Ton" Twenty-One
The Monarch's right-hand man, and most competent henchman. Was originally a chubby nerd that hung out with Henchman #24, and the two had this weird inability to die that made them valuable to the Monarch. Well, turns out there was nothing magic about them, as 24 died and the death shook 21 deeply and prompted some lifestyle changes. So now he's a...somewhat more built nerd and is actually capable of handling himself in a fight. Actually left the Monarch and joined SPHINX for a period but, when SPHINX dissolve to rejoin OSI, Gary wasn't allowed in and basically failed at trying to form his own SPHINX. Seemingly now back with the Monarch.

There are more characters. Many more, and many of them are super cool and funny but I don't feel like typing anymore so just watch this dang show.

I don't know if I would say Dr. Girlfriend "found her calling" as a #2 so much as guild rules & institutional sexism forced her into it so she's making the best of it.

Also she's not the #2 anymore. They're partners.

why the hell is it so hard for them to produce this damn cartoon nowadays

    is it the Obamaconomy?

what they should do is outsource it to Japan as an anime

anime produces like fifty thousand cartoons a year with none of this nonsense about multi-year hiatuses

Was under the impression the major block has been getting the scripts done. Actually doing the animation hasn't been a problem, they're just perfectionists when it comes to plot and writing and have to re-write a lot.

I am going to set my DVR to record this. I own the first 4 seasons on DVD and may binge on them tomorrow in anticipation. Someone said in an earlier thread, but one of my favorite things about this show is that they have such a consistent world. I have never seen a show, outside of maybe a soap opera, pull off making the audience think a character died off screen only to have them show up later so well. In addition the way they follow the rule of Chekhov's gun is amazing. Each episode has all of these little callbacks to previous episodes without actually requiring the viewer to have seen them to keep up. Just amazing.

why the hell is it so hard for them to produce this damn cartoon nowadays

    is it the Obamaconomy?

It's because they animate it "the old fashioned way," whatever that means, and it takes them a lot longer to produce episodes. That and they are expensive as balls.

That isn't helping any but its important to remember that there are only two writers for basically the whole series. Even South Park has a bigger writing staff and they basically shit their episodes out. Whereas VB is densely written with a ton of obscure references and continuity stuff and subtle jokes.

Also "nowadays"? Season 1 was in 2004, Season 2 in 2006, and Season 3 in 2008. They've rather consistently gone 2 years between seasons, with the exception of 4 which was split in half and sort of mucked up the timeline.

Yes, what better way to point out that you are ten years older than you were when they first aired Venture Brothers.
