OK, I've taken the oath and have joined the watch.
My 15 year old is not excited. WTF. Kid plays Dota2 until his eyes bleed and he doesn't really feel PAX this year? I think the only logical explanation must be alien abduction. My 9 year old is psyched, on the other hand, so I'll be on board for badges.
That's a good idea. He's not done that before and he does like playing in the console freeplay areas anyway.
Or... and take this with a grain of salt, I don't know your family or situation or anything But maybe don't take him? I mean, if he doesn't want to go, there are tons of people who want to go and to me it's sad every year to see the people who are there and don't care, knowing that there are people who really, really wanted to go and are super bummed that they can't. Just my opinion.

Do kids get in free?? If so what's the age range??
I've reset the PAX twitter alert. However, there really is no point for me to set up my page alerts as I got a new job just prior to PAX last year and now actually have to work steady hours. It's *so* terrible. At least my weekend still falls on Tues/Wed, so there is a good chance I'll be home when tickets do go live.
And even though I won't be here every day, I am with you in spirit. F5 Forever!
All these talks of hotel fun makes me wanna get a hotel instead of renting a house for the week. But like between 4 cosplayers I feel like a hotel room with 1 bathroom would get very crowded
My first convention (KastuCon, not PAX) we had 14 people split between two adjoining rooms. I think someone slept in the bathtub. Crowded is relative.
"Brilliant! Oh wait, if we were meant to fly, we would have been born with little bags of nuts."

As someone who has taken his son (12 this year) the last 3 years, I would second considering this. PAX can be crazy busy and really stressful even if you *really* want to be there, especially for kids. And if they are not having fun, you, and possibly those around you, are also not going to have fun. We always need to take some breaks to get through the weekend without strangling each other. And this is coming from someone who has a son who was pissed he couldn't do PAX Dev this year because he wasn't old enough.
How many people will the Sheraton let you keep in a room? Last year we had 6 but I don't know how cool they are with it if I pushed that to 7.
As long as you don't ask for more hotel keys, what they don't know won't hurt them...
IMO just do and and if they bitch pretend someone was drunk and you thought it would be safer for them to sleep it off in your room than to go back to their place.
The max you can put down per room is 4 people... but as others say, don't ask and don't tell, they know what's going on.
That's what I figured from my past experience, but I wanted to see if that was the norm for more seasoned PAX hotel goers. I imagine they turn a blind eye because of the sheer volume of business their getting at that hotel and how much goes on after hours.
When they asked us how many keys we wanted for our hotel last year, we asked for way more than what was listed on our reservation and the guy didn't even care. As everyone has mentioned, don't ask, don't tell.

It depends on the hotel. I have stayed at some that are incredibly strict about how many keys go out and how many people are in the room. Also keep in mind that if you pack a room like that, you are likely violating the fire code for the building. Know the risks before acting, regardless of what you do.

We take lots of breaks. I've been going to PAX for many years now, so I pretty much know the drill. I'll probably buy a ticket for my teenager anyway and if he decides not to go I'll give/sell it to someone who does just like we did last year. It's a Catch-22, right? I'd rather err on the side of caution.
But I do love the BYOC idea which is something I've never thought about before. Then again, before this last Christmas when his present was a computer he built himself (with some help) he didn't have a setup worth taking.

Right, well one person in our party doesn't quite have the same 'Esprit de PAX' when it comes to hotels as the rest of us (something to do with bathroom sharing), so I'm doubtful we will cram more than four people in as a compromise at this point. Assuming we all get tickets that is.
I think it'd be ironical if they put them up for sale on ECCC weekend, considering ECCC put their tickets up for sale on Labor Day Monday, last day of PAX. Just sayin' that would just be perfect in a darkly humorous way for me, but we don't even have the Coming Soon on the site yet, so definitely I'm feeling April right now.
Another note: last year I got the texts alerting me to new tweets by Penny Arcade, Pax, and Robert Khoo. When I got the text saying the tickets were on sale, I went to the Pax Prime site on my desktop and refreshed and THE LINK WAS NOT UP YET TO BUY THE TICKETS. I had to quickly login to Twitter on my desktop and follow the link in the Tweet to go directly to the ticketing site. Not sure if this happened to anyone else but I'd recommend just following the Twitter link. It caused me to miss out on the 4 Day passes.
Speculation amongst my particular squad of F5 Warriors is that with Emerald City Comic Con going on this weekend, that today and Friday are probably clear... OBTW - all of you going to ECCC, a semi-rude gesture to you for having a Comic Con that is NOT overrun by Hollywood (I live in San Diego - )

This is standard. They post the link on twitter first and then update the website later. Twitter is the best option to get tickets.
Is it sad that any time I see Khoo post anything to twitter, even for something completely unrelated to PAX, I automatically have my radar up that ticket sales could be incoming?

I dunno about "standard." If I'm not mistaken 2013 the website was updated well before the Tweet went out.
And last year the paxsite was updated before tickets went on sale (albeit it slightly). I was monitoring paxsite and not Twitter and was linked to showclix before the tickets went live. I had to refresh a number of times at the showclix site before the tickets actually went on sale. (I was not alone in this showclix refresh. Unfortunately, my panic caused me to miss 4 day passes as I was checking to make sure I wasn't alone and the sale /really/ went live while reading panic posts.)
Did East post the link on twitter first this year?

If you're worried about having to log into Twitter, I'd recommend a desktop Twitter client. If you have a Mac you can just log into Twitter via settings. If you use Windows, you can grab Tweetdeck.

It amazes me how many people are intimidated by Twitter. I'm one of the most un-tech savvy people and I love it. It's the fastest media available to share information.
Twitter updates are great for at PAX as well, since you can push the notifications to let you know if lines are filling up/something has been canceled/pins are out etc.
I'm too lazy to turn them off though so my phone blows up at work during the Friday of PAX...PAXes.
The reason I wasn't following Twitter was because my desktop Twitter notification failed for some reason. No idea why. It said I was logged in when I checked it... And I had gotten a previous notification. But on the day of - it didn't notify me at all. (And I lack a smart phone, so no phone notifications.)
This makes me worried about this year, as I will be relying on my tablet's Twitter notification almost exclusively.

PAXi? What's the plural of PAX?
I believe the canon plural for PAX is PAXen. It's definitely what the community uses the most. Like the plural of ox is oxen. But I don't think that follows any established English grammar. I can't think of any other 'ax' noun with a plural 'en'. So I assume 'PAXen' is just what Jerry finds most entertaining to say.

HAH. Now that's clever. I trust Jerry to handle all the word stuff, for sure. Now to just come up with a group name. A horde of PAXen? A LAN of PAXen?

I am a Twitter novice, I only use it for PAX :P
You don't need a smart phone to get twitter notifications. You can set your desktop twitter account up so that it will send text message notifications for certain twitter accounts to your phone. Any phone that can receive SMS messages can use this feature.

Notifier for Chrome is super simple extension you can use also. I created a twitter account separate from my normal one that only follows pax offical, khoo and a couple others. When any tweet comes in from them a popup shows up on my desktop with the tweet. Took less than 5 minutes to set up.
My brain trolled me last night. It gave me a bittersweet dream .
Starts off I'm in the longest pax line I have ever seen, having fun, playing games, and talking with others in the line.I finally get to the merch booth, there is a huge stack of orange-blank-hotel key type cards. It turns out the line is for Pax badges.I start talking to the people at the merch booth and they explain that the reason they have to sell the badges at the booth this year is because showclix site couldn't stay up without crashing when the badges became available and then the factory printing the badges burnt down, so it was impossible to ship them out but they had to do something, so they bought theses cheap card and they are only selling 4-day badge at $120.That made me happy at least I had a 4-day badge and I got it for $120 but it did mean I had to wait till days before pax to get my badge.
When I woke up I was still happy for a few seconds then I realized it was all a dream and now I'm not very happy about the way my brain works
