Also, in defense of Unstable Portal, I just played 7 Mountain Giants in one game without having Mountain Giants in my deck. Got a Rag that was in my deck too. LOL.
Edit: And just started this game
turn 1: coin - Apprentice
turn 2: Unstable portal - Unstable portal - Shade of Naxx and had a Gromm in my hand (who is actually fantastic in a mage deck)
turn 3: enemy surrender :-/

Never seen it on stream.... I don't even know its play animaion.
I just saw Zetalot playing it yesterday! which is what caused my post about how great he is.
he's probably experimenting because his last iteration had an undertaker core as the opening. well, he's definitely experimenting because he's always experimenting but I imagine that was the cause of him trying something completely different.
but beyond that yeah, I don't think I've seen it anywhere. not least used because there's some others like that (the priest mech, junkbot) but among them

I don't know how that's a defense hahaha. that's pure insanity and I love it but I am also glad I wasn't on the other end.

Well, in defense of putting it in a deck. That was god damn ridiculous, yeah.
@Variable Unstable portal just gave my opponent iron juggernaut
He played it on turn 3
I think it does need some probability tweaking...
Maybe. As kinda crazy as it is when it gives you the perfect card, it is giving you up to a 1 mana discount for taking a random minion instead of constructing it, which isn't super crazy. It's pretty in line with stuff that has been in the game since day 1, like coin + defias start.
I think the thing with unstable is that there is a really high chance of it finding anything with higher than 2 cost, hell 3.
Then you basically got value. It may not be an AMAZING card but it's a 3 cost card for 2-mana or just anything expensive for a hell of a lot cheaper.
That sounds like good value.
Then with possible legendaries that early, insane value.

yes. if you could randomly get any card it would sometimes be really good. the fact that you not only get that ysera but get to drop it way early is just salt in the wound.
the worst case is you get a bad minion, which you can cast for free and at least is a body on the board. best case you end the game.

I think the issue is that it's completely non controllable random. Like, Mmmig was complaining about swag rag but at least you can mitigate your chances of what he's going to hit, and you know that if you play him on a full board you're basically playing him as a hail mary. Piloted Shredder is just "well I hope he doesn't get fucking Millhouse." Like I buy Brode's explanation that SOME random is necessary but it just feels like early in Magic when there was a ton of coin flipping or Chaos Orb. They eventually learned that scenarios that are completely out of the player's control aren't that fun.
It makes me wonder if this stuff is just because they CAN and they're exploring the space of an all digital card game, or if the point is just to help promote the game through social media or something. "Hey everyone look at what I randomed out of portal!"
Unstable Portal has a 10% chance of being bad value, 20% of being par, and 70% chance of value ranging from good to obscene. Turn 3 Boulderfist is like, the middle of the curve.
12 people signed up for the tourney. We begin in just over 2 hours! If you have a Challonge name send it to me. Otherwise, try and jump on B.Net like 15 minutes early to PM your opponent and ban classes.

Unstable Portal is one of those cards that people who've never tried using it themselves (in constructed) complain about, because all they remember is that time its best scenario killed them.

Nah.
Even in that scenario it meant I had a 3/3 and a 2/3 mana wyrm and a 1/1 on the board turn 2.
So uh... are the tournament matches best out of 5?
Yea I assume so based on the standard 4-deck format
Yup. Here's how the games should go:
Players message each other and tell the 4 classes they've chosen.
Each player bans a class.
Both players secretly select a class and start.
After the game, the winner keeps their deck and the loser chooses a remaining deck.
Play continues this way until one player has no decks left.
In the case of a tie, both players lose their deck and select new ones. If no decks remain for either player, a rematch is played with the last decks used.

No, I've used it in constructed, a lot of times it's not that great, but but on average, it will be a huge tempo boost at least. And if it's not great, oh no, your turn 2 was sub-optimal instead of automatically winning you the game, how sad.

I'm sorry but this isn't the case. I don't only remember those times at all and I've never said it's always good.
and I've used the card to both good and bad outcomes.

heh, nice fire trap. (my egg had 2 damage from that health equals attack card)
is easily my favorite new card. It has given me the win so many times, or just made my board a real pain in the ass to deal with.
It is Confirmation Bias: the Card.
@3clipse I CHALLENGE, YOU!!

why can't people just actually hate the card?
