Some of the other new powers are great too, there's "move target unit" and "this unit and target unit swap places", both of which sound great for fucking over gunlines.

Honestly given how random psychic powers are and how stupid the Culexis Assassin is, none of this really matters. I'm glad I painted up a group of Librarians to give my Grey Knights a Librarius Conclave, though.

I guess the silver lining here is that when asked what CSM players want, we can point to this and be like, "That. But with spikes. And probably dicks."

Supposedly the rules for the combi-disintegration weapon is S5 AP2 Instant Death Gets Hot, with no limits on number of times it can fire during a game. And it looks like it costs zero points, just swap the special model for any regular SM model for free. I'm hoping there's some missing information.

Shut up, Mr. Burton! You were not brought upon this world to get it!

Not until we pull out of this SM Flavor -> Tau -> SM Flavor -> Eldar -> SMF -> Tau loop of updates.

Well....as you may or may not know, I have a Squat Space Marine army that I run as Salamanders

This new book....a hammer that can hit at Strength D....the geomancy discipline....a book that gives your librarian the molten beam power for free....

    I can't

It's all too good. The only thing that is frustrating is that I can easily run the Salamanders strike force for the +1 flamer strength (not that they really need it?) if I finally pull the plug and come up with some conversions for assault and devastator centurions

I've wanted assault centurions forever, even if they suck....and one of the auxiliaries is just "one land raider"...which means I have no excuse not to take assault centurions and stick 'em in the land raider

and I can park my devastators in terrain and teleport them around using my geomancer if I get lucky

What I'm upset about is that, unlike some of the other chapter strike forces, I don't know what to do with my two thunderfire cannons. I don't want to leave them out in the cold!

But still, I can always play my normal CAD list if I want thunderfires. I just mainly want that strength D hammer and geomancy!

    I'm so hype about this

    drop pods for maximum troll

What I meant was more along the lines of the Force Org chart.

Always thought 40k was cool. Played computer games, read books, read lexicanum wiki. Friday I'm getting a chance to play sixth edition with some friends. It's two of us (Grey Knights) vs Tyranids (the guy showing us the ropes) vs Tau. We have 500pts each.

    Mission Brief
The Imperium has located a Psychic beacon which could be used to bolster the Emperors fight against Chaos. It resides on an old Eldar world now riddled with Tyranids. You must secure the beacon off world. There is a small Tau contingent, determine whether the Xenos filth is a threat or a tool that can be used. Data indicates that the beacon draws the tyranid swarm to it. This mission is to be prosecuted by the Grey Knight Ordo Xenos.

Here are my forces, followed by buddy's.
    -Ordo Xenos Inquisitor
-Terminator Squad x6 with a Psilencer and Psycannon
-Dreadnought with Heavy Flamer, Twin Laser Cannon, Doomfist
    -Rhino

    Buddy's
-Purgation Squad x4 with Justicar, SB&FS x2 (whatever that means) , Incinerator
-Strike Squad x9 with Justicar, Storm Bolter, Nem Force S
-Nemesis Dreadknight with Psycannon, Psilencer, Heavy Gatling

How screwed are we? I'm reading up on what I can, because the two of us are new and the other two aren't.

The "Ignore Cover and LOS blocking for 1 Warp Charge" is pretty aggravating as well. Space Marines now do Hive Guard better than Nids do. Terrain is so passe.

We played forever and it was a slog. Had to escort a rhino from one side of the map to another. After those damn Tau xenos scum blew up our rhino my dreadnaught carried the beacon and when it got disabled on the road leading to the extraction site one of our terminator brothers that was dropped from the strike cruiser picked up the ball.

At the end of the night, that lone terminator made it out and secured the objective.

Our two regular squads and original Terminator were eaten by Warriors and Hormagaunts, our first Rhino and Dreadknight were taken out by the hive's Trygon, and the rest were killed by Tau rifles.

All in all it was a lot for a first attempt at 40k and we played from 8pm to 3am. There were some high points but many more low points, and absolute trash dice rolls. If I played again I'd go with smaller scale.

7 hours for 1000 points game seems very excessive, regardless of your skill level. I'd think that should take maybe a single hour, maybe a bit more if you have breaks.

I don't understand why space marines in particular would have that power.

I dislike the Marines on impulse really because they are so over emphasized. After looking through their models I'm newly annoyed though. They have so many things! They have layer on layer of redundancy, while other armies are seriously struggling to fill some gaps, and they get slathered with new rules and models constantly it seems.

My Orks or Chaos marines would love a flying transport, or even just a few more passes on rules and point values

I can let it slide as a making your own chapter thing, marine get these weird powers because they're all built around these odd primative cults on Deathworlds and generally don't have as stronger 'theme' for want of a better word that Imperial worlds, the Chaos gods and Eldar craftworlds have. Though it'd have been nice if marines could get access to just one of them per chapter.

Be interesting to see if these pop up for other specific characters though (alien merc geomancers etc).

The image from the email (with the torsos and Mk III legs/heads/pads) is much better.
On another note, toning down the wolfiness is hardly a surprise; adding more is basically impossible at this point and Forge World likes the 30k range to be distinct.

It is also interesting how toned down the paint jobs are now on GW and FW's website. They've gone from `eavy metal quality, to simply high table top quality using very normal techniques. Seems to aim at showing what you can reasonably expect to achieve with certain basic skills.

Eh, Forge World stuff has really never been 'Eavy Metal style if you ask me. Theirs is a more scale model style where 3 layers of line highlights aren't a thing.

I like it, personally, and think it lends itself well to the Horus Heresy line. It's simple & grimy.
