Hey, sorry I couldn't make it to the thing, templewulf, had a working weekend. Hope it went well. I'm still interested so please continue to update
Our next beginner fighting games thing is November 7. It's at Geek Partnership Society, so you (the general you, as in anyone reading) can play table top games in addition to face punching.
Marty: The future, it's where you're going? Doc: That's right, twenty five years into the future. I've always dreamed on seeing the future, looking beyond my years, seeing the progress of mankind. I'll also be able to see who wins the next twenty-five world series.
So this is going to be mine and my fianće's first weekend off together since we moved, and suggestions for touristy things to do in the cities or shows to see? I think we're going to go to MoA one day just to say we did and because we both have a shopping problem.
Science Museum might be fun. Then you could go to Mickey's train car diner in downtown St Paul too. You might even see a play at the theatre or look around Landmark center for a bit of history.
You could go to lake Minnetonka and drive around. See the pretty views. Look at the ri check people palaces.
You could hit up one of the many breweries that are every 3 feet these days. Go to Uptown and eat some hipster food, drink a quality coffee.
You could go downtown Minneapolis and see Nicollet mall (really a street with shops), do some shopping. Grab some food. Go to Foshay tower and see their museum and go on the observation deck. Then go to Prohibition between 5-7 happy hour, a sky bar on the 27th floor.

So not worth it anymore. Downtown is all offices and road construction. Avoid it.

I especially recommend going to moa on the light rail, if you're in a neighborhood to take it. It goes directly to the basement in the mall, and you avoid all kinds of traffic.

Well I'm a giant nerd, so I'll second the suggestion of going to saint Paul and doing science museum. And as mentioned there is plenty right around that area as well for when you're done. Some cool bars/restaurants, the excel center is across the street. And when it's cold enough there is an outdoor ice skating area that's dare I say, very romantic.
we will be at FFG tonight for GAMES. if you would like to punch me in the throat for my Completely Correct Science Museum Opinions, that would be the chance to do it.

If I wasn't 2 hours away I would totally punch you in the throat.
If the weather holds out, you could check out Como Park. Lots of stuff to see there.

I'll be in the cities again this weekend. It's my son's 7th birthday. We're going to go to Dave and Busters and do some other shit though I'm not sure what yet

magic pink, how dare you. science is way more interesting than history. who cares about a bunch of dead people and their houses. science is all of time/space
it's like you're a boredom elemental sent here to produce more boredom.
anyway SCIENCE is interesting, yes. The science museum of Minnesota is not. it is not a very good science museum. history is CRAZY dull but the history museum is amazingly well done

Don't listen to these curmudgeons. Downtown still has nice things.

Lies. I've worked in it for 10+ years. There's nothing downtown worth braving all the road construction for and that very same construction makes the place look like a warzone currently.

@LostNinja: Depending on from where you moved, you could check out a Mill's Fleet Farm. Those places are pretty interesting if you are unfamiliar with that type of store. Some of the people watching can be worth it as well.

It repeats stores like crazy. I think there are 34 different Lids within MOA.

Also, all tourists are required to take a picture with the spoon. I'm pretty sure it's in the state constitution. http://www.walkerart.org/collections/artworks/spoonbridge-and-cherry
Science museum also has imax.
...science
There's actually a super cool display at the History Museum of the various stages of a house through the decades. It's really awesome.
Avoid the Science Museum it's crawling with children and pretty boring.

Was thinking about that if the weather hold up. Which is better, Como or the state zoo over towards Burnsville (applewood or something like that)?
Como zoo is free (takes donations), and has certain animals you can't see at Minnesota zoo.
Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley is nicer ($18 each), and also has very nice indoor exhibits, so it is good regardless of the weather.
I think both are excellent.
But it loses its thread
The Minnesota Zoo is WORLDS better but actually costs money. Como is free but (currently, not always)depressing as hell.

I'd love to visit Beirut sometime.

he's a pretty adorable bear. he loved that window and interacting with people on the other side
He turned 29 this year.
