I live a few blocks from Universe Games. I don't really buy into public events at any gaming store, but the staff there seems okay. Had a great conversation about WH40K with one of their female employees, which was a welcome and unexpected surprise.
So do I! Holy crap we must be in the same dang neighborhood! The chance of Relic getting played is skyrocketing.
Uptown is a pretty great place to live. I manage to get by without a car, which is nice (and I can afford stuff like Relic because I don't have to pay for gas or whatnot).
Anyway, I can go in and inquire what the better evenings to play board games are. Would rather not navagate around a ton of Hearthstone or Magic players.
That sounds awesome. I also am car free which lets me amass more than 250 board games.
Worth it? Probably not.
I haaaaate having a car. I'm not a very good American, because I would torch the thing in return for decent bus and metro coverage.
In any case, I'm in uptown all the goddamn time, so let me know if you want to tabletop/video game.
I just use Car2Go to get around. That way I get to not own a car and still be an American.
Anyway.
I talked to Universe Games, and their less busy days are Tuesday and Saturday, apparently, and things only pick up at all after 5 pm anyway. I get home from work ~3 pm, so I could claim a table for some Relic without trouble.
Both those days can work for me but not until about 5:30 on Tues. Let's book it!!
5:30 pm on Tuesday, November 3rd at Universe Games. I'll show up 30 minutes to an hour earlier to claim a table and set up.
I have both the Terra and Nemesis expansions. I'm fine with playing both from the get-go (it's Talisman, how hard can it be?), but if people have an opinion we can not use expansions.

Sounds good. I'll start punching out the tokens.
EDIT: BTW I just got a text message advertising 20% off on purchases this weekend at Universe Games to celebrate their new coffee shop addition.

When is everyone coming to Brainerd to hang out with me?
Are there any good "made to order" salad paces around the cities area? Not like a salad bar or buffet type thing, but one where you can build it online with everything you want on it and have it ready for pickup by the time you get to there.
For reference, I'm basically looking for a Midwest version of saladworks. Barring that, and chains where I can find a good grilled chicken salad with fries on top?
Only 2.5 hours into my shift and it already sucks hard.
Really looking forward to playing some Relic tonight at Universe Games. I'm going to show up maybe 4:45 pm, but we will be starting between 5:30 pm and 6 pm, depending on when people arrive. I already have one non-PA friend coming, and the game supports up to 6 players.
so if i wouldnt be able to get there until 6 because of work, and i also have never played the game and dont own any accessories for it...
...you should still come, because the game is easy and you don't need any accessories, because they all come with the game itself. Even if we were to start before 6, there's practically no issue with jumping in a few turns late (in Talisman, you can start late and still win easily because everything depends on the luck of the draw/roll).
...assuming you WANT to play some Talisman 40K.

as long as it wont be a burden putting up with someone whos never played, i dont see why i wouldnt want to play talisman. ill hop on the first bus out there after work then.

I've never played Relic before myself. Played tons of Talisman since I was about 9 years old, though, and they're not different enough to make much of a difference. You probably won't want to play one of the Nemeses your first time out, but that's 100% optional anyway.

I call the Tyranid Nemesis.
I looked at the personal deck for that one and laughed. It's just dropping buffed critters left and right to mess with the other players.
I liked the look of Luxuria. Now there is a PK build. Corruption all day erry day.

I'll also have my krosmaster stuff with me in case anyone wants to try it out. I'm looking at you @Magic Pink.

Precocious!
I'm actually still pretty new at the game. I'm running a naive brotherhood of tofu team and a black Crow team.
Naw I was pretty exhausted from attending a 12 hour orientation seminar and probably would have slept through the whole thing. The food place I went to was pretty good.
Marty: The future, it's where you're going? Doc: That's right, twenty five years into the future. I've always dreamed on seeing the future, looking beyond my years, seeing the progress of mankind. I'll also be able to see who wins the next twenty-five world series.

what did you end up with? if it was a salad be sure to let @LostNinja about it because i myself have zero salad knowledge to impart

I was so tired that I immediately forgot everything right after walking out the door except Lindale, so I walked down until I got some burger at Muddy Waters

We've only ever played it with random teams. I made one team in the online game but never actually tested it. I do loves me some Black Crow tho; it's one of my favourite figs.

Glad you made it to food (and presumably home) okay!
And, BTW, thanks to everyone who came out. I would like to have more get-togethers over various board games!
Maybe some Saturday we could do a real game of Relic.

Excellent choice, one of my favorite places in town.
I usually stick to shorter games these days. So.. if anyone wants to play those.
I hear that there's a Lovecraft-themed version of Kingsburg out now. I seem to recall Kingsburg being nice and fast, does anyone know about Cthulhu-burg?

I don't know what that is!
Lately we have played lots of Lords of Waterdeep and Splendor.
But I do have an amount of fun big group games, including Ladies and Gentlemen and Space Cadets: Dice Duel

I have it; Kingsport Festival. It's fun but not really all that short, about a 3 hour game.

You looked pretty beat. How was the orientation?
I take it Pally got a new jorb?
I write you a story
But it loses its thread

It's a pretty quick, light worker placement game. It's nice, but there's so many that are so much better.

I have great luck parking on Aldrich or 31st. No meters, either.
Also, we could arrange suburban carpools once we figure out people's schedules.

Yeah! Thanks so much for playing with us.
It seems like the kind of game you could probably set up in someone's basement and play literally for weeks.
We were never going to just "finish" Relic. You dedicate a whole day to it if you want to finish by-the-numbers.
Even then, I think I've just given up more games of Relic's ancestor, Talisman, than I've completed, over the years.
10/10 WOULD OVIPOSIT AGAIN
seriously man I love that game. that was way fun!
CRAP if I'd know I would have demanded you show me your wee mens! Next time fo' sho'.
Too bad you left early.
Actually you left early so hard that the black base on your broodlord mini broke when I tried to pry it off. Going to explore some superglue options.

Yeah, I blame you guys for me getting ready to eat a walking taco for lunch right now!
Who am I kidding, it's more delicious than a salad could ever be. :P
