I think part of the length was that half of the staff had games of some sort which just take longer. I thought it was brilliant fun and really enjoyed going through it, but yeah, it's a balance to strike.
Has anyone heard if the Gold Overwatch pins are going to be at prime? I heard a rumor, but haven't heard anything else. Aren't they supposed to make at least 1000? What are they doing with those pins?
1 gold overwatch pin every 10 minutes, with 4 sets of demo stations, for 8 hours a day, for 3 days. 576 golden overwatch pins.
Some matches are shorter than 10 minutes, so potentially well over half will be given out by the end.
Since normal overwatch pins are given out 6 times faster than golden ones, 5000-6000 seems like a plausible print run for the normal pins, assuming 1000 for the gold.
Oh, Blizzard probably gives them away to staff members. I haven't seen duplicate Blizzard pins from event to event so I doubt we'll see them in September.
It was handled poorly. I got sniped twice by people that were on their 4th, 5th, or in one guy's case, 8th gold pin, grinding them for eBay. I tried trading with each, all were super rude and dismissive. I got one last chance to play today, and after 2 hours in line, the group of twelve I was standing with to play was up, and they held two people back, and two guys that looked like pros or streamers (screen names on their hoodies) got let in from the side, no waiting in line. I had an amazing game, 16 kill streak as tracer, but these guys won both, zero time spent in line, high fived a dev, and left. I just left the show at that point, I wa pissed, and don't want to pay $150 on eBay.

The only part of Overwatch that I would say was handled poorly was the lack of definition on what constituted "Play of the Game". It was actually the most points within a 7 second window. 16 kills is awesome, but if that was over a long period of time it wouldn't register for POTG as much as a 4 kill in quick succession.
Really, the problem I had with the Overwatch pins is that they weren't distributed in a way that encouraged people to play normally. Since a Mercy or other support character would have a hard time getting a multikill, we saw a lot more Reapers and McCrees and such because that was what was effective. Additionally, if you were up against even just two people who were strategizing to farm the pin who could stack their ultimates (Zarya + basically any damage dealer) you didn't really stand a chance.
I think it would've been more fair if the winning team's top scorer received the pin. Still not perfect since it encourages stacked teams but its a step in the right direction.
Please don't stereotype a group of your fellow gamers and pin collectors just because a few are jerks, is all.
He's not saying that the streamer was a jerk, just that it wasn't really fair of blizzard to let two ringers jump the line and get the pins. I saw this go down, and I would have been pissed too -- blizz should have disqualified the media/pro line jumpers from getting the gold.

I would be pissed in that end-of-day scenario too, but it's really the booth staff's call to make. I saw cosplayers get in ahead of the line too. I'd bet media and special guests could too.
I'm more pointing out the calling out of pros/streamers based on what they were wearing. There were a lot of people at PAX that fit that description, myself included.

You're going out of your way to take offence. His entire complaint was how shitty it was to have two people jump in out of nowhere, seemingly with an in, and walk off with something that most people had to wait hours to even try and get. The only thing he's mentioned otherwise is that said people appeared to be professional streamers, based on their attire, which you actually supported 100%. <_<

Maybe I am. But I fit his description, though it absolutely wasn't me. And many others do fit the description as well.
From his complaint, that ruined the last day of his PAX. If he sees me at a future PAX, with a Twitch hoodie (I love wearing mine to PAX), I may be lumped into that group that ruined his PAX. Intense negative experiences can leave grudges like that.
Between this and an apparent dislike of Twitch here and there, I fear that some like him may be unfriendly to me in the future, despite also being a pin trader. I go to PAX as a Twitch livestreamer probably more than I go as a pinny collector. I didn't win my Gold Overwatch, I traded for mine. I didn't grudge others for winning it over me, despite how they got in.
Perhaps he was overly frustrated at that turn of events, and it showed in his post: not just the apparently livestreamers, but in the kind of people that were 'sniping' him.
I don't know anything about hoodies -- but it's not cool to let pros with media badges jump the entire line AND win the pin in a regular game against the line-waiting mere mortals.
I stand by what I said above:
They should have had the streamers play against the dev/staff team (which they screwed even more line-waiters with one matchup later than the one described above) as a special exhibition game. It would have been more entertaining for everyone involved, more of a challenge for the pro streamers, and not screwed anyone out of a fair shot at the gold.

I was merely using this as an identifier. My brother streams, and I have friends that work with twitch as part of their day job. I do have my opinions on it, but I'm an adult, and I'm not going to snub an entire group of people based off of a few encounters. For the record, the first guy that did this was the very first person I played against Friday morning. He won both pins that morning. I played another game Sunday morning, and low and behold, the same screen name showed up on the other team. Guess who won both pins again? I talked to him after the Sunday morning match. He wasn't wearing any clothing identifying him as a streamer, but did tell me he was, and that he plays FPS games religiously, when I tried to get some insight on how to better get a pin. He was overly rude when I asked to trade with him.
As others have said, you're going out of your way to be offended by something that was not even directed at you. Shitty people were shitty to me, and it upset me. It just so happened that they were streamers. The first guy confirmed that he was able to farm up 8 pins because he "had an in" to get through the line. Making people wait in line to get a rare pin is fine, if everyone plays by the same rules. When you have a selection of people that have a higher skill set, AND are allowed to skip said line to take more pins out of circulation? Not really cool.

When I read your post, I was afraid that liking Twitch would turn into another group that I am part of that is casually hated, it wasn't just from here. But I'll not go into that discussion, nothing good will come from that.
I apologize for reading your post the wrong way. I too would have been pissed, but more so at the booth staff that let those guys in multiple times. They are the real problem here.

Perhaps I can interest you in my meager selection of pins?

Where the extras go is anyone's guess.
