It’s now your job to tell us what pokemon she has and what power Megaman gets when he defeats her. Go!
A bit obvious maybe, but I'm betting she has a Tentacool and a Tentacruel. Unique shiny versions that are green instead of the normal blue. One of them may or may not be referred to as "The Baby". Also, a purple Charizard named Ridley.
Megaman powers, I think I'd go with the bombs, charge it for a super bomb attack, add the Morph Ball as a mobility device letting you go through small corridors (does MM still slide?). Missiles or one of her beams may be the more obvious route, but Mega Man's had a lot of missile weapons in the past, and energy shots are pretty much what MM does normally. Alternatively, Screw Attack could be fun, but I think it might turn into Top Spin 2.0, and nobody wants that.

Iirc Megaman slides, x and zero don’t. They have wall climbs/jumps instead.
I like Zero Mission, save for the Zero Suit part. Makes me want to shut the game off then and there, and if I didn't like the part following that, I probably would.

A detail I appreciate from Super Metroid, Zero Mission, and Fusion is that Samus' sprite looking to the left and right is different, adjusting for her suit's arm canon. That level of detail is pretty rare in video games (3D has made it easier to respect) and Nintendo has been consistent about it.
I just barely prefer Zero mission over Super actually, but both are in high esteem, and I think tricky to remake well enough in 2.5D. Something more like "Metroid 5" might actually be the safest option for the Returns team, and I'd probably pick it up because "more metroid." While Fusion had great mechanics the railroading and AI dialog was a bit of a drag, so it wouldn't be that hard to make something that could overall follow up on it decently enough IMO.

I generally agree, really one and two were the games that were, I don’t want to say bad, but most held back by the technology of the time. There’s no good reason to remake the others.
Again really the only thing with Super metroid on a rerelease (not a remake) would be working on the controls and bringing them up to spec (get rid of the run button and the awkward sub weapons on select thing, make wall jumping a bit more intuitive, go to the now standard scheme of having shoot and jump on a and b)
I hope they keep making 2d gameplay metroids, but they ditch the parry system. I hated that shit. Just let me shoot them!!!
also I wouldn't say no to a super remake with like, fusion/zero mission controls. As long as they can hold themselves back from other m-ing it up.

I don't think we'll get anymore handheld Metroid games, on account of the 3DS about to wind-down. Gonna be Switch from here on out. Metroid Prime 4 being on the horizon kinda puts off the pressure of another Metroid game coming out for a while so... it'll be a bit before we get a 2D game.
I've always wanted a 2d Metroid/Mega Man crossover game. Give it a Metroid style map with Mega Man style bosses you can tackle in generally any order and lets you play as Samus or Mega Man, with different abilities and routes through the map.
Still hoping that Retro is releasing something this year. Since they apparently pitched the new direction to Metroid Prime 4 to Nintendo, that should mean they are done or near done with whatever they've been working on since Tropical Freeze right? The other alternative is that whatever it was got canceled, but hopefully that isn't the case and we get to see something from them in the next Direct or E3 since MP4 is going to be years away.
Also hoping their pitch for Metroid Prime 4 was inspired by the systems driven approach of Breath of the Wild. Would love to see that level of world interactivity implemented in a Metroid game.

This sounds like a really cool idea. So would Samus get her upgrades from the bosses like Mega Man, or would she still have to scavenge for them?
Yeah BotW but with infinite wall jump in place of climbing and morphballing down hills would be neat.
Also a bunch of Shiekah Slate style abilities to solve puzzles and drop death on your enemies. Hell, to be honest those powers felt like things Samus should have.
I’d also love a FromSoft amount of bosses too. Gimmi 25 bosses other than Ridley.
The BoW engine would work great for Metroid because the map could be massive and layered on itself. The 4 powers might need to be tweaked a bit but the power armor has similar abilities already
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

I actually liked the parry system, in principal. The problem was they made you parry every single fucking enemy. Like, why do I have to parry this fucking gnat? Just let me shoot it or dodge it and keep moving. Keep the parry for the less common, actually dangerous enemies. It felt so good late game when your beam can just tear through everything and you hardly have to parry anymore.

What's funny is that even Link To The Past didn't do this. He's left handed looking left, but right handed looking right. They explained it away in the player's guide by saying that he always holds his shield towards Death Mountain.

God that must have been an amazing time to make games, coming up with dumb lore bullshit to explain away tech limitations.
Megaman gets the ability to charge his beam by holding down the shoot button after he defeats Samus. It, uh, makes more sense in the first game of the series.

Switch is a handheld and we are lucky now if MP4 is done by the end of its life.
Switch is a console to me. I don’t play it handheld unless I have to.
There are some who believe at this point MP4 probably won’t come out for this iteration of Switch (if rumors of a Switch Pro are to be believed). I dunno, I hope that’s not the case. By my standards, a Nintendo system without a Metroid game is a failure.

No, they haven’t. Are you from the timeline where there was Metroid on N64 and Wii U? And ports/virtual console don’t count either.
Let me rephrase. Regardless of what Switch is, its getting fire emblem, pokemon, and animal crossing. Anything that Nintendo used to reserve for handheld is going to Switch now. Any logic about "handheld" games being dead to Nintendo is therefore flawed. For example Nintendo stated they want to keep up the annual Zelda games they used to manage across home and handheld, and there's a separate rumor about a smaller-scale Zelda hitting Switch this year. Metroid doesn't make as much dough but them doing the same thing isn't out of the question.
With MP4 development starting now and Retro's track record, we are looking at 2021 or 2022 release. Its a good ways off, if they had a smaller metroid game in production, there's ample time to release before then.
WiiU was my gateway to all the metroid games. There will forever be a place in my heart for my WiiU and all the series it allowed me to catch up on.
Incidentally I've now played all the metroid games except hunters and still have no idea who Sylux is and why people want him in smash.
Is Hunters Metroid Primes Chain of Memories?

I can respect that. Glad you got more out of it.

I honestly don’t know why anyone cares about Sylux or anything from Hunters. It was a forgettable, bad Metroid game. All I can recall is that Sulux is a bounty hunter that hates Samus. That’s about all we know. Not very exciting.
They seemed to be building towards something with Sylux. First his ship gets a cameo at the end of Prime 3, following Samus' gunship. And then at the end of Federation Force, stealing a Metroid hatchling.
I think people are excited because Samus really needs a new foe to fight, and a rival bounty hunter isn't a bad idea.
I personally would rather one of the Corruption hunters in Smash. You’d probably be able to get the most out of Gandrayda, since she can become any of the four hunters (including Samus) from that game to perform attacks.
Hunters has basically zero impact on continuity whatsoever right now (aside from maybe Sylux).
The way you got the true ending was neat though (requiring you to read through a few scans to work out how to operate ancient artifact in final boss fight).

Something from the Reuniclus evolution path (they look the most like a Metroid off the top of my head), and he gets the Screw Attack.

At the current rate, there will be more games in the Metroid Prime series than the main series, at least in numbered titles.

Sylux definitely has some stuff going on that they could use. And hell, if they managed to make Dark Samus a good recurring villain...
If you make a multiplayer Prime game without wacky alien characters you end up with Federation Force, so...
Though a better arguement is to not make a multiplayer Prime to begin with.
It took me awhile before I realized that they hadn't actually brought the Hunters hunters into Prime 3 and that those were new characters.

I wouldn’t mind them trying to work up an actual metroid as a character just to see what they could come up with.
