But unless we want, like, a luminoth or a chozo ghost, they’re pretty much the only Metroid characters left who would work as Smash characters.
I wouldn’t mind them trying to work up an actual metroid as a character just to see what they could come up with.
Dark Samus is already in the game though.
Sure but Dark Samus (and even Metroid Prime as it first appeared) isn't really a metroid in the classical sense. It doesn't try to drain the essence of its victims.
Edit: Of course, I'm on record (probably at least once in this thread already) as calling the "metroid lifecycle" bullshit. As far as I'm concerned, "larval" metroids are the only real metroids. They're the scary ones. They're the ones that hunted and haunted you on the NES. They're the dangerous ones that couldn't be fucked around with.
This would be a nightmare (not Nightmare) to make and balance, but a Metroid going through it’s whole lifecycle (minus becoming a queen) as a character would be fantastic!
Final Smash is a queen however, that eats everyone, then nuzzles the character for a second before disappearing.
I just think starting a match as a very light floating character and ending it as a super heavyweight would be interesting.
It is responsible for the plot of two whole games.
Strangely, I can only think of one.
Maybe Fusion, in which its DNA permanently mutates Samus into a disease-sucking exterminator.
Permanently until the end of the game where she's just fine now. Suit so integrated to her body that it couldn't even be surgically removed? Life changed forever like it says in the opening narration? Nah F that we need cheesecake ending slides for % and speedrun completion.

I really don't like Sylux's design. It reminds me of Mainframe Entertainment's stuff from the late 90's, and while those shows were well-written, visually speaking it's a very dated aesthetic.
I would push for a Zeta Metroid if for some reason they felt the need to include another Metroid character in Smash. Weird acid-spewing xenomorph beastie who can run up walls, let's go
Can’t be removed when she’s unconscious, the game said.
I don’t agree with the idea that absorbing the SA-X removed the Metroid genetics.
Unfortunately the director said otherwise in a FAQ. You can interpret Fusion itself how you want but if a Metroid 5 ever happened, we know what direction it would go in.
In Metroid Fusion, it seems to have established that "Samus can't use the Ice Beam because she has inherited the nature of the Metroids", but why at the very end is she unconcerned when she regains the ice beam?
{ When she absorbed the core of the SAX (the perfect condition of Samus), she basically reconstituted her genetic condition. She didn't recover the physical damage of her amputated suit, but she did recover her genetic condition.
Honestly its kind of disappointing, figured they would take from Alien Ressurrection a bit more on this point, since the game itself was so thoroughly Aliens. I mean, the Federation could've always used Samus own blood to grow more Metroids...

I know the "Ridley's too big" thing was debunked, but I really, genuinely feel like Kraid would lose a lot of cache if he got shrunk back down to anything near his original Metroid size to fit in Smash. Fat alien Godzilla needs to be a couple screens tall to have any gravitas, whereas space-pterodactyl-dragon-man is pretty boss even when he's only a little bigger than people.
I think there might only be two OM spirits in Smush, actually. And Adam can technically count as a Fusion character, except that they use his OM artworks

I keep forgetting that palette swap had meaning at the end of Fusion.

Well a computer monitor would be weird.
Oh wait the nintendoland mascot .

I think a pokemon trainer like character with the different forms would be neat but they have said in the past they don’t really like transformation characters because they are a huge amount of work and most players end up using one form exclusively anyway.
They may be a bit too scary for smash too, I can imagine a eight eyed, tyrannid-like zeta or omega metroid grappling Mario and chowing down on his head with it’s weird lamprey like claw mouth to suck out Mario’s life energy may give some kids nightmares.

put fake kraid in smash
You're technically Kraid, but you only control his hand.
My only issue with Smash representation is that Dark Samus is an echo. I've been complaining since Brawl that Dark Samus or Ridley would have made more sense as an original character than ZSS. Now they're almost there, but decided to make Dark Samus pretty much a pure clone. I wouldn't mind Sylux if they heavily redesigned him, but even then he's a weird character choice since there's basically nothing to him except being mysterious and vaguely antagonistic.
I would like to see Kraid in Prime 4 though. Was always disappointed he didn't make the cut in the first Prime.

And Ness’s Father, portrayed by a telephone.
That is a deeply sad cut

It’s a huge pull and I don’t know if it’s exactly canon but my old hazy memory plus the Metroid wiki tells me that the Chozo “Old Bird” and “Grey Voice” raised Samus.
Grey Voice in particular looks cool when suited up. I imagine you could throw in any ability a Chozo boss has had in the series, with a touch of Samus’ already established moves.
One of Ridley’s attacks in Smash is a direct reference to how he killed Grey Voice in the manga for Metroid 1, too.
Edit:
Alternate post; give me more Samus was raised by alien monks, less galactic federation soldier please.
Also I’ve just now realised Samus was raised by a male couple. I’m not gonna exaggerate it into a gay marriage, but whatever that was she was raised by two guys.
Samus is one of the most accidentally progressive characters of her time.
Who should we have under that suit so we can do a cool reveal at the end of the game?
A woman, I guess.

Well the games imply the entire remaining Chozo species co-raised her. They had long since aged out of child bearing age( you can make metroids but not figure out how to make an artificial egg I guess) she literally became their legacy

No need for redundancy.

So like, the baby metroid?
I hate that game’s narrative with a passion, but he’d make a hilarious Dan style joke character.
They didn’t remember him.

Nah. I could see a Space Pirate working. They got pew pews and ninja moves. What more do you need?
