The bosses in this game are all great, because they all have "tricks" that you have to observe, and they're not necessarily intuitive. You might fight the cannon and figure out the matchstick guy needs to be burned down, then fight Vvulf and think "oh right, I know this shit" and get your shit wrecked.
The Dream Team is victorious! Bust open a box of wine with a shovel before I met him and had them camp just before they went into his room.
Spoilers for The Baron's combat mechanics.
The fight begins with the Baron and some of those red eggs you've been torching around the Courtyard. Only now the presence of those eggs prohibits any of your healing skills from working - including the Flagellant's Exsanguinate attack - so my Vestal's entire movelist (AoE heal, target heal, Judgement, and Hand of Light for when she gets out of position) cannot be used unless I want to give up the positioning of the rest of the team.
Any damage will break an egg, and out will pop a bloodsucker enemy (or the Baron himself). They won't break out and attack until you break them, so you can limit the fight to one at a time - until the Baron decides to bring everyone out at once. Once all the eggs are broken, you can use healing skills again.
Problem being, her passing turns repeatedly spiked her stress, which meant my Jester had to lay off DPSing to serenade her - all of which could've been avoided if I'd just put like the stun attack on her.
Actually was able to let a Death's Door+Blood Lust Exsanguinate off the chain - that hit like a truck. After an epic fight including some absolutely brutal crits, the final blow was a Vestal's Judgement that hit for 4. She was the last of my heroes to have a turn that round, and was on Death's Door. A lovely little final tap to end it.
Got four Crimson Court trinkets, but they're all pretty crap without the set bonus (like +damage against blighted enemies for the Antiquarian? Why? Who uses the Anti's DoT ever, or as a DPS, ever?) Oh and I finally got a decent +stun trinket, so my Hellions will be able to do better work
The fiends have been driven back.
Now, to get these ridiculously effective adventurers up to level 6...
Chance on

While the trinket sounds bad since +damage doesn't help dots, I use her DoT all the time. Slapping that on some almost-dead enemy means you can either start killing the next one or start healing if that was the last one. It scales nicely too. Hell, it does more damage than a normal hit from a DPS class against high-prot enemies.

Rule 1: Don't get attached.
I almost killed the Shrieker and his nest, but my 2 big hitters each missed their attack on the last round, and the bugger flew off with 15 health left. Raagh

Snagged the DLC, started a new estate. I forgot how good the narrator is. Ran into the collector super early on, he's kind of a pain. Got a head in a bag out of it though.
It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

He seems a lot more common now.
Random is random - haven't seen him at all in the last *checks Steam* ... 17 hours I've played.
He only has a chance to show when your inventory usage is over a certain percentage - and even then it's a low-odds diceroll.

Doing a first playthrough. Not looking up strategies/tips, just learning.
Had a team that was doing really well: Vestal, Vestal, Crusader, Leper. Vestals were healing as needed while boosting Torch, Crusader and Leper were just absolutely wrecking shit together on the front.
Came across a red orb that teased some kind of challenge for dropping a torch. Figured, sure! These guys are doing great together, I'm sure they can handle it.

They could not!
Yeah in this case overconfidence is less a slow and insidious killer and more a 3 ton tungsten rod dropped from orbit.
After reading up on the differences between Radiant and Normal modes, I'm heavily considering starting a new game on Radiant instead. I originally thought it was a difficulty shift, but if the only actual difference between Radiant and Normal is a significantly shorter mid-late game grind, it's looking more and more appealing now that I've hit kind of a big grind wall heading into rank 3->5 content. 50/80 materials just for rank 4 facility upgrades is well into "I will lose interest in the game before this happens" territory.

That makes sense. I guess I am just a terrible hoarder by DD standards, as he's popping up in my Week 112 or so playthrough with uncommon frequency.
Just got my hands on a Flagellant there, having clicked them on, and I think I'll probably just keep using it as a test-bed for other plays. Any suggestions for who to team with this guy?

Haven't bought the DLC myself, but one good tip about using him I've seen is that you can make Antiquarian use her guard ability on the Flagellant for some really good synergy.

Yeah, I've been having fun using that on MaA and Highwayman for some time now, with their ripostes. I could see it.

It makes sense in theory - I've tried it - but the problem is first of all you don't want your Flagellant to have a lot of Prot (the buff
Her guard skill gives). Harder to get him under 50% hp for Exsanguinate.
Plus she brings so little to the table DPS wise. Better a Jester, Highwayman or Grave Robber in my experience.

They've buffed some abilities - Occ heal works from any position now, Vestal mace attack has bonus vs unholy, Bounty Hunter's crap bleed (Hook Slice?) got totally reworked into Caltrops, some abilities only work once per battle but give a buff that lasts the full fight, Leper's Intimidate got changed. There was a bunch of other changes too like trinket nerfs, Antiquarian got a huge hp nerf for her higher level armors etc.

There were some largely-minor revisions that came with Crimson Court, including a mostly-useless Bounty Hunter ability being replaced with one that you probably still don't want to use, but it's still the same game it was in like January.

I noticed again last nite that the game will cheat to overcome the stronger min-max team builds. Previously whenever I tried the 'Revolver' Highwayman build of rotating Point-Blank Shot my party would suddenly be surprised a lot and shuffled out of position and the Highwayman in position 2 would usually activate first, despite having a significantly lower Speed than the Mook in position 1.
Last nite I experimented with a three Gravedigger build that should, theoretically, give me a constantly rotating series of Stuns and Knife-Throwers with highly buffed Dodge ratings. Instead I ran into the same situation of being Surprised roughly half the time despite being at full torchlight with a Surprise trinket and my retinue of Gravediggers being hit quite often even with Dodge ratings of 35+.
The devs have admitted that there is quite a bit of Dodge mitigation going on under the hood to prevent players from making their toons unhittable by stacking Dodge trinkets.

Yeah, I get some really surprising results from a MaA-fueled rotating riposte team's dodges sometimes.
There's also still the "during this mission, all monsters will preferentially target this one guy," code in there, I think.

The Crimson Court DLC drew me out from the world of boardgames for a while and it's been really good fun so far.
It helps I could add it to my existing 17ish week run that I had from last year without restarting. I'm not sure what I was doing last year, which is frustrating I have to admit, but I had somewhere around 144,000 gold when I opened up the game. Given that 90% of my heroes were diseased and looked like they had generally been mauled from the negative quirks, I think I know how I accumulated that much gold...

Highwayman's Tracking Shot and at least one other, I believe. Caltrops looks like it might be good stacked with Bellow for a heavy-debuffing comp, which is more than you could say about Hook & Slice.
The trick with the Shambler is that if you ever think "this time I'll attack the Shambler instead of the claw" you will die. Damage the Shambler when, and only when, it doesn't interfere with your primary goal of killing the claws within a turn.
certain classes can really wreck a shambler(riposte especially) but if your party is not set up just keep on walkin'
you should definitely make an effort to kill them though, the rewards are worth it and champion level shamblers are a nightmare
My problem with fighting Shamblers is the reward is NEVER worth the cost of the stress treatments. Like I killed a Veteran Shambler with the Dream Team last week. My reward for felling this most fearsome foe?
One stack of 1750 gold and another 300 gold.
S'like why the fuck even bother?

that shouldn't happen. shamblers drop ancestor items and two in particular are trinkets you will take on every single run pretty much without exception
