I think the problem is a combination of shipping problems (with the port strike forcing them to air mail everything which gets expensive - they still gotta make a profit) and they only have so many factories to manufacture the things in. So I mean, they are printing Wave 4 and the Mario ones now - they don't have any free machines to re-print stuff for something like this, and the shipping costs right now probably also makes it hard.

There might also be weird retailer agreements where Nintendo isn't allowed to sell the things themselves. I don't know how all that works.

I do wonder if with the supposed success of Amiibo though they can justify to shareholders opening up another factory or two. That would certainly help supply.

You're probably right. But like it was mentioned, with this trickle shipping that's going on, it's hard to pin down what will be rare at first. Just look at Metaknight. He also had 2 months of printing, and yet here we are. Granted the stupid store exclusivity affects things some, but still.

Nobody wants to experience the "I saw X in the store but I didn't buy it! WRYYYYY!" again, hence the freak out.

Received Sonic and Ike today from Target's flash sale on the 13th.

I dunno what to do with Ike. I bought him on a whim thinking maybe there was a slim chance I'd be able to get the entire Smash Bros set, but with Villager, Marth, Rosalina, and Meta Knight looking like all but impossible to get without paying scalper prices, I might just bail and stick to my favorites instead.

If you're willing to wait, I'm sure Nintendo will reprint a lot of those at some point (we already know they are doing Marth). Rosalina and Meta Knight especially have in-game uses other than Smash Bros so I'm sure once the exclusivity period ends they might try to get them in other stores.

Only wrinkle I'll say is that there is clearly another Rosalina coming for the SMB line at some point so Nintendo may opt instead to just release that one.

Are we sure about that? The Mario Party 10 website shows the Smash DK, Wario, and Rosalina Amiibos alongside the Mario line.

I imagine those are just in-game models that appear to match the SMB Amiibos so the Rosalina/DK/Wario Amiibos don't look out of place.

I doubt it. The Super Mario line is most likely meant to replace the Smash Bros line, at least for Mario figures. Since those characters are used in SO many games, it makes sense Nintendo would want a unified line for them (and not one with weird poses like the Smash line). It's a branding thing. Obviously they can't do ALL of them from the get go, but they picked the most common characters to start with. But I can't imagine they are going to stop there. It makes sense they'd continue the Mario line with additional waves like they've done w/ Smash. Besides those three, most of these Mario sports/party games also feature Daisy, Waluigi, Bowser Jr. and a few other characters. (yes, I am speculating we'll see a Waluigi amiibo)

It just makes way too much sense, at least with the Mario line.

I don't think Sonic will be hard to find. I was at a Walmart up here in Canada and they had like 7 or 8 of them and this was at 9pm at night. Every other time I've been through their Amiibo section it's been Peach, Mario, Kirby and Link.

I was reading up on the port strike. Basically importers were getting about 2% of the normal supply through ports. The new 3DS shortage is almost certainly because Nintendo only paid to fly so many into the country.

I can see this weird staggered release of Wave 3 and 2 being because of the strike too.

Yeah. I was at a few stores the day after Sonic came out, and I saw several in all of them. Mega Man was more popular, selling out in two of the stores I went to.

I'm really hoping this port strike being over helps with the stupid inconsistent supply. Wave 1 for example was largely fine until everyone started panicking and buying up all the Marth/WFT/Villagers (not that they were super plentiful but you *could* find them at first).

They can't buy ALL the stock if it's not scarce. And if there's enough stock that stores aren't getting, say, 4 of a figure, then scalpers will lose profit and stop scalping.

I'm still craving decent amiibo support in games though. Update Mario Kart with new costumes already (or ADD IN SAID FIGURES.....Kirby, Dedede, Pikachu, Pitt....).

Finally a character I consider to be a part of my own personal roster. Would've been nice to get a Villager...

Villager, Dedede, Pacman, Game & Watch, and Bowser Jr are my peeps. I own 11 amiibo right now for some reason. (13 if you count my extra Rosalina and Toon Link for a potential trade)

I am still waiting for damn Zero Suit Samus. That might be one I actually bother to try and "train" in Smash Bros. The rest I just send into a battle to the death against each other for my own amusement :P (it actually is kind of fun to watch)
