Thanks, Nintendo! Now we just need more Rosalina, Meta Knight, Shulk, Lucario, Captain Falcon, Pit, Little Mac, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer Amiibos as well and we're in business.

Also, can we finally have the N3DS in the states? Kplzthx.

If you’ve been paying any attention to the amiibo market since its launch, you’re probably aware of the scarcity of them. Nintendo is aware also, and though the shortage has been hugely a North American problem due to port strikes, Europe and Japan have had their woes with a few characters in particular – Villager, Little Mac, and Captain Falcon.

A new batch of Villager, Little Mac, and Captain Falcon amiibo are set to be shipped in mid-May in Japan. Nintendo mentions that the assembly process for manufacturing amiibo can take quite some time, some even needing to be done by hand, and can take a few months until shipments are made from the beginning of production, which is why demand can’t be met right away.

Before closing their message, Nintendo says “it should be noted that depending on the presence or absence of amiibo in the future, we will consider adding production on a case-by-case basis. We will of course also listen to the demand of the consumers.”

Let’s hope there’s enough for people to enjoy this time around. Captain Falcon more so than Little Mac and Villager since his amiibo also unlocks content in Mario Kart 8, while the others don’t really do much outside of Super Smash Bros. at the moment.

Having a similar problem with Samus, they appear to be becoming rarer. However, at least up here in Canada, everyone seems to have approximately 9 billion yoshi and peach.

I kinda bailed on my plan to get the starting 8 Smash Bros characters, since I honestly prefer the Party Amiibo style for most of the Mario characters. So now I'm only collecting Smash Amiibos for characters I like. Guessing I'll not be getting Megaman, Pacman, Shulk or Duck Hunt tho. :I

mega man is not rare at all. It and sonic have been popping up as much as toon link and sheik now as being the more common ones in the wave.

If you live in a big city, maybe. Where I am absolutely every single thing that isn't mario might as well not exist.

Hell, we don't even have a target. in the entire state.

the distribution just seems to be weird everywhere. I've seen toon link on shelves once. I see Shied and mega man on a regular basis, and I've only seen Sonic twice. it's almost like they pick which amiibo goes to which part of the continent at random.

And again, the port strike in the US is probably not helping this at all.

Mega Man isn't absurdly common yet, but he and Sonic have been popping up on store shelves (unlike Dedede, which may as well be a leprechaun). Which is a good thing, since the Gamestop register biscuit forgot to put one aside for my pre-order.

Megs is definitely one of the best Amiibos though:

SSB, AKA Smash. They're disappearing because of the SMB line, and I wasn't thinking about that until now

I really liked my Samus, but she soon started to lean slightly to the side and now it really bothers me. I really hope we get a new Metroid game and a better Samus Amiibo.

Need Little Mac or Captain Falcon? Look to your local Best Buy this week.

I can see some in transit for some stores but not all. It looks like shipments of 8. This isn't a false alarm or grain of salt. They haven't shown in transit since they released. Good luck on grabbing one if you haven't yet. This is a great sign of things to come.

Edit: I do not have an ETA but they all popped up in transit today and they weren't yesterday. It could be on any truck and stores receive them on different days. They are across the nation at ~15% of the stores from rough estimating. I've seen at least one store in each state that has some coming but I repeat, not all stores will have them as of what I am seeing currently. It might update more and more be sent to stores and this is just the first "wave".

It'd be hilarious if they flood walmart with Gold Mario because he's mario. And then the only way to get normal color Mario is with the Mario Party 10 bundle so it'll end up being rare.

Well, guess I'm dropping by Best Buy on the way home. Unfortunately I would imagine anyone that is looking at Amiibos knows the value of Little Mac and Captain Falcon and would likely buy out the entire inventory upon sight.

I've been saying I'm gonna laugh so hard when Gold Mario ends up being common.

I kind of wonder if Nintendo is finally getting around to addressing supply issues. Based on an article I read earlier about the pretty huge turnaround time on the figures it's possible it was already too late for waves 2 and 3.

Well, hope for the best, expect the worst. Pretty much has been my life motto and it's worked so far. :)

Honestly, we'll see how "rare" this gold one becomes. If it does, it'll almost be 100% Nintendo's doing. Otherwise, I have reasonably high hopes for the SMB line at least. Super simple design so they're cheap to poop out. Port strike's done so shipping shouldn't be a problem. Meaning the number of them available should be one that both consumers and Nintendo's accountants are happy with.

For future waves of SSB, who knows. And past waves... I fear the only hope for them is if they crank up their production and flood the market. Which as many people have noted, is something the fiscal tightwads probably aren't keen on doing.

I do kind of wonder if Nintendo holding back wave 4 pre-orders (because it has to be them.. SOMEONE would have opened them by now) is part of a strategy of some sort. Get a ton of this Mario line in stores so amiibos don't seem so scarce which discourages scalping because they can't make a profit on the 900 Toads they bought up. Then release wave 4 pre-orders while the scalpers are down.

Maybe not, and I certainly don't expect wave 4 to have the numbers this Mario line will, but eh, I can hope they have some kind of plan :P Even if it wouldn't necessarily work.

Gold Mario is the one thing I'd expect to be rare on purpose.

  • -Abel--Abel- Registered User regular
Gold Mario is going to be super common, then when Silver Mario is released nobody will pre-order because of how common the Gold one was and then it'll sell out immediately because they did a very small run of them. And then the cycle of Amiibo hoarding/scalping will begin anew...

I won't be surprised in the least bit if Gold Mario becomes more common than the regular Mario Party Mario.

It's like the gold cartridge of Zelda Ocarina of Time for N64. The gold "collector's edition" cart is the highly desired copy of the game, however the gray cart is actually the rarer version.

They never even made a gray Major's Mask in the states. Gold with holographic sticker and gold.

I don't know if there are more gold than gray OoT, but that is very true about both NES Zeldas

Oh, right, they made a non-holographic sticker version that is actually rarer than the holographic one.
