What limit have they patched in to sunlight selling?
Every time you fill a box it increases a ticker until you start giving into the urge to open them causing you to wound yourself. I have a feeling something bad happens if it gets to 200 and you go to the surface again but I haven't tested it.
I just want them to bring back some form of taking over enemy ships, instead of always scuttling them. That piracy option at Gaider's Mourn keeps taunting me.
I just hit a sequence of events that gave me something like 50-60 supplies in a short amount of time.
My hold can only take 40 things total damnit, and I had a bunch of other stuff in it already, including 15 supplies.
Edit:
WHAT THE FUCK?!
Someone at Codex demanded a place on my ship but my crew was full, so I said no, and they fucking cursed me, and now my sweetheart is dead.
That's XCOM Sunless Sea, baby!
Part of the reason I blew all my heirlooms to get an upgraded ship this game is because I was damn tired of people shoveling stuff at me and not having the hold to contain it all.

Selling mirror boxes at the Isle of Cats is funny, because
you either make your Veils check, sell your sunlight for 400 echoes, and get the box back, or fail your check, get 500 echoes, but lose your box. I had a pretty good Veils last game, but I usually left the Isle with half my mirror boxes, a lot of fuckin' money, and a strong urge to go visit Khan's Shadow for more boxes.
I got boned hard by randomization, just now. I was doing the Last Tour, and was dead set on getting all those dumb assholes home safe. I knew what I'd need for each possible place, and was prepared. This would be the one where I keep them all.
I go to Khan's Glory, have my Leopard favor saved up, nail the challenge. And then they announce, "Onward, to Khan's Glory!"
I can't get out of the Gazette, can't close the story. Have to accept - still stuck at port, where the story auto triggers again. With my favors all used up and no way to get more or exit the Gazette.
Lost one tomb colonist, to my INCREDIBLE chagrin. What hot bullshit.
I just got so caught up doing other things that I completely forgot I was meant to bring the Bruiser something.
Then succeeded on a very risky Iron challenge and got to keep hismy money.
Edit: I've also taken to running http://asoftmurmur.com/ with a mild mix of fire, wind, and waves to supplement the in game effects, since I kept running into big patches of no-music that I found a bit dull. It's nice.

I have yet to continue the relationship with the Bruiser beyond a couple of jobs. I always either turn him down amicably or get forced to return to London without his jive and then proceed to either pay him back with interest or wallop his face.
Making my first attempts at running Sunlight I went from London to the Surface to Cats, and then on the way back to London ran out of fuel entirely and died.
I guess I either need a bigger boat to increase the amount of fuel I can take in the first place, or just to go back to London with the sunlight and risk the customs guys?
The best part about the surface isn't even sunlight, it's the 5 echo supplies

There's always the chance that Aestival is closer to Isle of Cats than the surface is, though I've found that Aestival has a larger chance of wounding than the surface, when you're filling boxes.
Surface has zero chance, aestival is a bad way to fill boxes
Depending on its location, there is a lower opportunity cost at Aestival. 22 Fuel to get up to the surface, while not a dealbreaker by any means, is still a speedbump to profit.
But yeah, serious sun-brokers are going to make the trip to the surface. Aestival is mostly a "while you're there," benefit.

Yeah, I usually go to Aestival for resupply and fill a few boxes while I'm there. Less chance of losing crew there too, for whatever that's worth.

So I have just really started this in earnest after playing a bit during the early access. Where can I find the box for the tireless mechanic? Also, where's a good place to get sapphires?

the box: Khan's shadow, just SE of Khan's heart, I think.
Sapphires (I think) are a common trade good that should be available in Wolfstack, though are definitely available from that Carnelian place.

Also, just a hint, there's someone that will appreciate the final product of that quest leg more than a vendor.
...that actually applies to a lot of stuff, but this is one of the bigger discrepancies between vendor price and alternate recipient's.
actually you should always double check unique items with this person

Regarding sapphires, at the Empire of Hands there's an option to donate a ton of discovered treasure to the monkey zeppelin. If you don't do that, and do the quest piecemeal, the reward for each drop-off is a casket of sapphires.
I am actually feeling super bummed about that last death, running out of fuel is such a dumb way to lose the game and I really should have planned better to avoid it, before that point I had been almost everywhere that's on the map, the only place I know of that I was missing was the Mangroves, and I had found a bunch of places I hadn't seen before too.
I think I need to step away from the game for a few days or something.

Running out of fuel does suck, especially when you pray to the gods and they either do nothing or fuck you over even further. I think I died like that two or three times.
Over time and about eight captains, I have gotten better at gauging how much fuel I need, and how to survive most precarious situations (i.e. stock more supplies than you think you'll need so you have something to burn if you run out of fuel unexpectedly, learn where the static fuel ships are, and where you can go to knock over pirates who might have spare fuel, etc.). Even then, I have limped back into Wolfstack Docks burning the zailors' last flagons of rum more times than I can count.

Yeah, I deliberately held back on buying more supplies on the Surface because I couldn't seem to see how full my hold was while I was there, and had become completely sick of throwing stuff away earlier when the Cats people just violently lobbed supplies at me. I guess at 5 echoes a piece I should have been more willing to just keep hammering the button until I had to drop one.

In defense of the fact that you can't see your cargo while on the surface, it's really f__king bright up there.

Getting out of Iron Republic was so goddang tedious before. The ships don't feel like they've lost any of their heft, but it's no longer arduous as all fuck to flip a u-turn.
It also makes the Impeller even more fun. Serpentining all over the dang zee just because I can.
The changes to the Zong of the Zee are also very, very welcome. Sitting on a giant pile of secrets and playing a whole game with (essentially) base stats kinda blew. Now, with the little artifacts you build along the way, you get some stat bumps as you put the book together. Very clever tweak.
Does throwing nightmares in that well give you a permanent wound? Cuz that seems kinda bad.
That wound is actually very useful
Yeah, but permanently lowering the amount of wounds you can take from 3 to 2 is kinda huge.
It's not a permanent wound. Try it and see what happens

how this game basically works for me so far
1: Create a new character, i enjoy this game a bunch but its also super slow so i usually have some netflix on as well.
2: Immediately get hit with the urge to explore the entire damn map, step one, i must do it, it is a personal goal.
3: I drive around exploring and running errands but never any coherent plan in mind other than do quests that I have items for already, planning on doing the rest when i have explored the map.
4: Explore around 90% of the map, unlock a better gun and have a full crew, but still not enough for a better boat.
5: Collect exactly 2 treasures, deposit them in my legacy will
6: Discover something awesome and get a whole ton of treasures
7: On my way back from that last voyage, get A: Distracted by whats on netflix and drive into a goddamn moving iceberg, or B: Get shot up but the mongol horde because i just thought i could take them this time or C: Forget that i owe the bruzer something and he kills me on the docks of London... It is usually C, its been C 3 times now. I wish there was a better quest journal for the bruzer because I always forget. And D, once i discovered the actual way that rare purple mountain attacks you. It was stuck in a whirlpool once so i though i could pick on him and boy was i wrong.
8: Respawn with the 2 treasures, enough to restock my starter ship and go out at least feeling somewhat stronger than the real start.
And all I have other than that is the red book, so thats a help.... but man i suck at this game. It moves just slow enough for me to cut so many corners. I know what im doing wrong but man i really want a better ship and the entire map explored. Im just really bad at this game.

Ah, consider breaking off your association with the Blind Bruiser after the Mt. Palmerston run. He won't take it personally as long as you complete that run. I've done that, and it saved me some anguish later.
And don't shoot the Khanate ships. I know they are assholes.I know. But just don't fight them; they usually won't chase you very far, and you can just keep heading to your destination. If you kill one, your threat level with the Khanate goes up, and their loot table isn't really any better than a 30 HP pirate junker. If you make an obvious enemy of yourself with the Khanate, where are you going to buy your pornographyRomantic Literature from later?
