    HBO Now seems like the Wii Online Capability of internet streaming services

    why do I need an HBO Now account as well as some sketchy looking service I've never heard of

    why do I need to chat with a representative to connect the two

    whose grandmother designed this

    That website has no place where I can sign up, it just funnels me down to the bottom where my two options are iOS and Optimum, which appears to be an internet provider-specific thing for a provider I don't have

    Oh, that. That's because HBO Now is tied up in Apple exclusivity for sign-ups at the moment. You can only create an account by using the iOS app.
