SD for Wii

I have just a few questions about using an SD card on the Wii. I would like to use that card specifically for storing VC games, so as not to hog the 512MB system memory. I have a little trouble with that though. If I go to copy my downloaded VC games, it doesn't seem to work as expected. It wont let me copy Bonk over at all. It did let me copy over SMW, but only once. I assumed that, every time I saved at a new location in SMW, I would be able to re-copy that to the SD card but it wont let me. It just says something like "that file can not be copied twice" or something. Whats the deal with that? So what did it copy in the first place then? How can I get my VC games onto the SD card, have it save those game saves to the SD card, and not loose my VC game saves that I already have when I make the move from system memory to SD memory (I have a good bit of things unlocked in SMW that I don't want to loose).

I'm not even worrying about saving VC stuff on my SD till Nintendo lets me play them off the card. What's the point in saving it to the SD if it still is taking up the system memory?

You can't have games save directly to the SD card. You would need to manually delete the old save from the card and copy the new one to the card. Right now, SD cards are essentially useless for the Wii (unless you really like the Picture Channel or need to move save files from one Wii to another.)

That's fucking retarded. Call me crazy, and yes I know I didn't really look into it, but I just assumed that the SD card could be used as almost a sort of extension of the built in 512Mb. Half a gig is not a lot. That makes me sad.

I'm glad I didn't spend much on that SD card. :|

If your VC games take up too much room on your wii, you can delete them and download them again for free. Nintendo remembers which games you have paid for.

This has already been mentioned somewhat, but WiiSave totally makes your SD card purchase worth it:

The only use for SD cards on the Wii really is custom soundtracks for Excite Truck, if you really really like Excite Truck, but don't like the music. Most full priced games, let alone virtual console games, don't even let you save to the SD card, and a few of them refuse to even let you copy the game saves to the SD card. Locked game saves should never have survived passed the Dreamcast.

Damn you F-zero AX machine and your memory card slot that my 3rd part card doesn't fit in!

I love Wii, but there are some damn hokey things about it.
